Maria Viktorovna

The older I get, the more repulsed I am by breast implants. The stretch marks … the surgical scars … the generally unnatural appearance of prominent breasts on a body with near-zero body fat…

“You a f****t, Nash?”
“Why, Garfield? You cruising for a piece of ass?”
Only seen the first GOTG. How’s that Shakespeare quote go? “It’s a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”
I really hate live-action superhero movies.
Another problem with the Plinkett reviews is that they made people forget about the suppression of the original versions and think that the prequels were fans’ only grevience with Lucas, so Disney felt a lot of pressure to make sequels that didn’t resemble the prequels and no pressure to release the original versions of the movies. I wish Plinkett reviwed the Special Editions in additon to the prequels.
I don’t think we can be sure that the popularity of these reviews led to the ‘play it safe’ nature of the TFA. Mr Plinkett did state in his Star Trek 2009 review that J.J. should direct them though. Disney probably just read the general mood of the fandom at that stage. To test this theory he needs to do a 70-minute video about the state of the Special Edition changes, and we know he’s not a fan because of that interview with Alexandre Philippe.
I rewatched the TPM review last night, and criticism of the SEs are right there, with mention of all the needless CG shit Lucas inserted to fill up the screen.
Kane Skywalker is more canon than midi-chlorian parthogenesis. Fight me.
You mean Kane Starkiller? The father of “Annikin Starkiller” 😉
“Kane Skywalker is more canon than midi-chlorian parthogenesis” - I’ve never heard of this man. But I agree 100%. This man is more canon than midichlorians.
My point exactly. Even Nellith Skywalker is more canon than midi-chlorians.

Took me awhile before I watched the reviews. First time I tried, I was put off by the Plinkett voice; I even looked around for a transcript of the reviews so I could get straight to the criticism without having to sit for hours on end listening to that voice, but couldn’t find any. I eventually did get around to viewing them, a couple years down the line.
One of the more minor bits of insight they provided that I always strongly agreed with was that Jedi should wield individualized weapons tailored with their biology in mind. Kit Fisto swinging around a regular lightsaber is stupid when any of his head tentacles could hit up against the blade at any moment.
It’s so ugly it could be a modern art masterpiece.
Cable Guy. One of my favorite movies. Lou Holtz Jr & Ben Stiller are goats for writing and directing this movie. Jimmy Carrey and Matthew Broderick’s acting was amazing. 🔥 A classic that never gets old in my opinion.
That movie’s only crime is that it was way ahead of its time.
Y’all are right on.
The Cable Guy’s been one of my favourite films since I first watched it when I was twelve. Never could fathom why my father disliked it.
The new 2004 Emperor is amazing, even if you never saw Star Wars before and are starting from the OT.
Except he looks nothing like he did in ROTJ, upsetting visual continuity. And the altered dialogue is a hackjob.
Temeura Morrison as Boba Fett makes a lot of sense because he is objectively better at delivering his lines than Jason Wingreen did.
I’m mostly indifferent to gender-swapped Kynes. There was a theory floating around that the change was made to make Stilgar Chani’s father, but IIRC, this ended up not being the case (someone with a fresher memory of the film can correct me if I’m wrong on this point). So an altogether arbitrary change, and mildly irritating on that front, but the actress gave a strong performance, so I wasn’t horribly perturbed. There were many other aspects of the filmmaking which left me far more cold. For example, Chalamet’s entire performance, his hair, and his stupid “Iron Man” moment.
Hyperspace is the gateway to the midi-chlorian microverse.
I didn’t get home Internet until late 2007, and I never followed Star Wars news/discussions when online at the school/library before that point. So while I can’t say I hated the prequels prior to 2008, with each prequel I watched in/around the time of release, the sense that something was amiss with the filmmaking grew, and with it dissatisfaction. I distinctly recall the ennui I felt towards SW in the interregnum between first seeing ROTS and first encountering prequel criticisms online.
Here’s a hot take that might upset a subset of the forum: Fans haven’t “started to come around and start showing the prequels the appreciation that they should have gotten in the first place”. It’s almost exclusively the fans who always loved the prequels unironically continuing to love the prequels unironically, be they the gushers from the days of yore or the kiddies who’ve grown up on them now adding their voice to the echo chamber.
Though I’m generally put off by multiversal shenanigans these days (I’ll never, ever see Everything Everywhere All at Once), a part of me still would like a SW Multiverse to be canonized, if only to say that the OOT and the pre-1999 EU are just as valid as the “real” SW Universe.
Anyway I might find a few online copies of Dark Empire or the Thrawn trilogy.
to paraphrase Yoda , " If into Dark Empire 2 and Empire’s End you go , only pain will you find . "
Well, that and nice art.
^ sure , if you don’t mind Cam Kennedy being switched out for a different artist, in a tonally different style on Empire’s End and the rush job that was done on it , wrapping the whole thing up in just 2 issues
Eh, I think Jim Baikie was a fine replacement, though I certainly don’t prefer him over Kennedy. And the story was a rushed hack job; I don’t disagree.

I’m a huge Studio Ghibli fan, but most other anime I’ve watched is a mixed bag for me. I think I’m on the same page as Hayao Miyazaki vis-à-vis “otaku” culture.
Gotta love Hayden’s lecherous Kubrick stare emblazoned on that card. Just a dash of extra spiciness to make the farce complete.
I gotta say… I watched the entire dub of Backstroke of the West some time ago and it was still really boring. In fact that might have been the last time I watched any of these. I was tempted to go back at some stage recently but… eh. I have other things to do besides let SW give me a headache.
I couldn’t get through Backstroke of the West. The opening act was the most I was able to digest. Any more than that, and my brain would’ve overheated.
For example, “Some say Luke, Han and Leia fought many more years to end the Empire, before a destructive alien force invaded and Leia’s children became the future of the galaxy. Some say the Empire rose again, and a girl called Rey, the granddaughter of Palpatine, rose to become a Jedi and right the wrongs of her grandfh ather.”
“And some say the Clone Wars was a conflict between the Republic and Mandalorian clone shock troopers which ended in 35 BBY. And Palpatine wasn’t a Sith Lord. And lightsaber colours had no intrinsic meanings and varied by individual. And Kir Kanos did go on to have a confrontation with Luke and the Crimson Empire trilogy wasn’t just a pointless cocktease after all.”
I’ve been dissatisfied with official canon since I first watched ROTS. This is all old hat to me.
I used to stan for Kenneth Branagh, but James Spader is now who I picture as my ideal young Obi-Wan.
Everything interesting about the Sith ultimately came from Tom Veitch. Everything that came from the prequels is horseshit.
For a moment there, I was concerned they’d cancelled the show full stop.
Guess it’ll take extra time to shoot next season, finding a suitable new location or *shudder* going bluescreen.
UNPOPULAR OPINION
Every single added Darth Anybody, Sith Inquisitor, Sith Witch, Sith whatever – the Emperor excluded – made Darth Vader less and less unique during the decades.
Don’t wholly disagree. That said, I’ll always defend the Imperial Inquisitor concept. Makes little sense that Vader would be the only Jedi to turn to the dark side and join the Empire.
