They’re not dumb, they’re complacent. Just as many people are when things are stable for so long. They became too content. Much like real life. People grow complacent all the time and before they know it society and their lives change in the blink of an eye. We can be blinded by the truth until we lose the very things we could’ve prevented from falling apart. Unfortunately it’s usually much too late. The same thing applies to the Jedi. They grew content, rigided, uncompromising, and egotistical. They became the very things they weren’t. Qui-Gon was the closest to what a true Jedi stood for in the last days of the Republic.

The prequel trilogy is based on a back-story outline Lucas created in the mid-1970s for the original three “Star Wars” movies, so the themes percolated out of the Vietnam War and the Nixon-Watergate era, he said.

I’ve always loved the Ewoks. I think Sam Witwer said it best when he said they show us what Yoda taught us. Size matters not. They also I think show us that technology isn’t everything and has its failings as they were able to defeat an Empire through skill and cunning abilities.

What are all the differences between the version on disc and the one on Disney+?

What CourtlyHades296 said and the Disney+ version also edited out Harrison Ford with a cigarette in his hands. I’m not sure about any other changes off hand.

The disc also includes some great features like The Force Is With Them: The Legacy of Star Wars - which includes James Cameron and Ridley Scott, The Birth of the Lightsaber, and The Characters of Star Wars. All worth watching!

I’ve added a handful of new Criterions since last time I was on. I got my first Wes Anderson film - The Grand Budapest Hotel, Mike Leigh’s Life is Sweet, and Ingmar Bergman’s Fanny and Alexander.

So excited Mirror is finally coming in July! It’s amazing that it’ll include Andrei’s son’s documentary - A Cinema Prayer.

It has the potential to make the original trilogy and Obi-wan’s story more compelling, but it also has the potential to fuck everything up.

That could work and would be cool! I was just reading a thread on Reddit and saw someone however comment:

“From A Certain Point of View anthology book for ANH Qui-Gon appears to Obi-Wan. Qui-Gon explains that he has continued to grow in his understanding of the ability, even after death. While he can initially only contact the minds of the living as a disembodied voice, he later becomes tangible enough to interact with the physical world.”

So maybe he’ll be able to interact with Qui-Gon in physical form. It wouldn’t be a bad thing to see but I definitely hope they address it and don’t leave it to just the novel to explain why he now can.

Same. I have very mixed feelings about it as well. I wonder if they could even pull from the fight on Kijimi and have them fight in a way similar to Rey and Kylo but don’t actually have them meet in the flesh. Maybe instead we’ll see more of the fight on Mustafar in flashbacks. Like parts we didn’t see when we were cut back to Yoda and Palpatine.

It should be interesting. My only real other hope is we see the confrontation alluded to in A New Hope when Obi-Wan talks about how Owen didn’t approve of Anakin following him down the idealistic crusade. It’s only subtly alluded to in Attack of the Clones.

Qui-Gon can’t appear as a Force Ghost because his training was left incomplete. However maybe they’ll create a scenario like the cave on Dagobah or Mortis where the Force works in mysterious ways for him to appear in physical form. I suppose there’s always flashbacks too. It would definitely be great to see him again.

Very excited to see Bonnie Piesse and Joel Edgerton return as Aunt Beru and Uncle Lars too!

Sheila Tracy, a former member of Ivy Benson’s band, presents a portrait of the late bandleader who passed away on 6th May 1993. Amongst those remembering Ivy are Cliff Adams, Ken Mackintosh, Jack Parnell, Jimmy Young, John Dankworth, and former members of Ivy’s bands.

I’ve been thinking about it and wonder if they were the original guide who took 3PO and R2 into the chambers of Jabba’s Palace instead of the Gamorrean. That’s the only place within footage we know of that I could see a place within the narrative that they’d serve a purpose.

Definitely would like to watch it! I never had the chance to watch the Ewoks cartoon. I remember getting to choose as a kid of receiving the VHS of it or Droids at the video store. I went with Droids and remember having a lot of fun with it.

Watching The Rise of Skywalker for a second time definitely made me enjoy it more for what it is and realise I think the best comparison for it is Sam Raimi’s Spider Man 3. Both suffered from being overstuffed, both messed with established lore to certain degrees, had studio interference in production, had uncomfortable endings, and yet both can be fun and cringeworthy at the same time. I’d say Spider Man 3 is slightly better though.

The Rise of Skywalker is now ranked eighth in my rankings just ahead of The Force Awakens and right below The Last Jedi.

It’s long overdue I get into David Lynch’s work and buy The Rise of Skywalker. Thankfully prices for both on Amazon are really good right now!

Having some cliché grand duel for Boba Fett’s death would be boring and stupid in my opinion. I think they way his death was done in ROTJ was great actually. It is kind of a homage to how some of the famous gunslingers of the old west died (e.g., Wild Bill was shot in the back, etc.). It kinda points to the fact that, in the end, no matter how good and skilled your are, eventually your luck will run out and one bad luck moment and your are gone in this kind of business.

That’s a really great prospective and one I hadn’t considered as I have for the longest time thought a duel between Han and Boba on Endor to reach the shield generator would’ve been so cool, and homage to the Sergio Leone westerns too. However you’ve definitely given me something to consider and a great alternative way to see it.

I just got my first films by Hayao Miyazaki the other day. I’m really looking forward to watching his work. I got Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind and My Neighbour Toroto.

I wrote that list late at night, and completely forgot that I’ve already seen Ivan’s Childhood. Some really striking compositions in that film. I own Stalker on blu-ray, so that probably will be my next port of call - then because I’m a sci-fi fan, I think I’ll watch Solaris next. I remember seeing a clip from the film - the long driving scene - which totally mesmerised me.

With Agnès Varda, I’d recommend you start with Cleo from 5 to 7, which is my favourite of her films. Ken Loach, start with Kes, then The Wind that Shakes the Barley (my favourite I think), and his most recent ones I, Daniel Blake and Sorry We Missed You are very good as well. Damien Chazelle, I honestly don’t think it matters where you start (I haven’t seen his debut, about the two people meeting on a park bench, yet though). Bong Joon-ho: I became interested in him after Parasite, then you could always go back to some of his earliest films like Memories of Murder. However, Snowpiercer from 2013 is a great companion film to Parasite: while Parasite visually depicts wealth inequality on a vertical scale, and in modern day Seoul, Snowpiercer visually depicts wealth inequality on a horizontal scale, and in a post-apocalyptic world. You’ll understand what I mean about vertical and horizontal if you see the films.

Oh! I need to see Ivan’s Childhood. It and Nostalghia are the two by him I’ve not seen. Do you happen to have the Criterion Blu Ray? I’ve heard very bad things about the Artificial Eye transfer. So I hope that’s not the version you have. Oh, Stalker like Solaris is Sci-Fi too but of a very different kind. That scene indeed is very mesmerising. Definitely one of my favourite moments from the film. Solaris was hard for me to get on my first viewing but I definitely want to watch it again. I think you’d equally enjoy The Sacrifice.

Funny I saw a post on socials today about Cleo and 5 to 7. The quote I saw really spoke to me. I’ll have to certainly make it my first film by her.
