Negatives? I was under the impression that Night Trap was shot on video.

Night Trap was actually shot on 35mm film, but that’s not what was used for the 25th Anniversary Remaster. The 35mm negatives are lost, so what you see in the game are time-synced tape masters that James Riley (the director of Night Trap) kept. There’s a few tape glitches and some scenes are missing outright, which you can see here

You probably know already but Night Trap recently had its original source negatives found and scanned for re-release. They basically “remade” the game and it looks gorgeous. There’s a clear demand for projects like that but movement on any of them is little to none unfortunately.

The new Sony release looks perfectly filmic and isn’t too dark at all. It’s nicely saturated and not blown out with processing like the Umbrella disc.

Dude no one said they wanted it in 4k, they were giving an example of sources without video and audio errors. The 4k disc happens to be a valid source for this along with the new UK BD.

No thanks. The original pioneer DVD has the REAL original mono mix. The 40th Anniversary and UK bluray were ripped from the 35mm version which had edits to the audio as mentioned in the first post.

That’s the first I’ve heard mention of this anywhere. Details? I’m not sure you’re following what I’m trying to explain: the U.S. Bluray from Dark Sky has a newly mixed 7.1 audio mix with messed-up sound effects, and the mono audio on said disc has the same problem because it’s simply a downmix from the 7.1. Second Sight’s UK release’s mono track does not have any soundtrack problems because it’s the actual mono track and not a downmix from an altered source. They’ve been compared and discussed online. If there are truly two different mono tracks out there that’s a first for me. lol

I’ve heard conflicting reports as to what Crash’s workprint is. One particular post claimed it ran roughly 160 minutes, another that it runs “10 minutes longer than the R-rated cut” which if true, makes it no different than what was released in theaters as it was put out uncut at NC-17. The R-rated “cut” was assembled for the DVD only via seamless branching.

If the workprint truly is longer than the “uncut” version I’d love to see it too.

Yea, MoMA owns this particular restoration. That’s part of the release’s point; to finally give the movie a copyrighted faithful to source home video release.

Do you have access to a Blu burner? If so, I’d simply grab a cheap pack of 25GB blanks and burn a menuless Blu-ray movie folder structure & be good to go. TSmuxer spits those right out easy as pie.

I always buy spindles (50 count) of Optical Quantum 25GB 6x logo top. Runs me around $27 and they’re very great quality if you store them correctly. Have always made sure to use Verification/Verify with IMGBurn and burns in about 30 minutes. After I create an ISO from the Blu-ray disc folder with IMGBurn, I re-use IMGBurn to just burn the disc. BDRebuilder helps too if you don’t want a BD50, unnecessary audio/subtitle tracks which some fan preservationists and fan edits have.

I recently tried those Optical Quantum discs, super cheap for a pack of dual layer discs. According to my drive they’re generic branded Taiyo Yuden discs which are the ones Verbatim uses. Hella cool and so far nice burns.

Titanic (1997) is completely overrated, IMO. The Blu-ray disc release isn’t good enough for you rabid fans?
Typing more about James Cameron, really hoping the Avatar sequels go shit at the box office.

I’m such a rabid fan I’ve only watched this movie once and find the thought of a 35mm print scan a curiosity and nothing more. Can’t get any more rabid than that!
