Return of the Jedi - The Spence Final Cut (Released)
Time

The Spence Final Cut made the Greatest Star Wars Fanedits page in what might be record time! Thanks for posting all your reviews everybody! I'm glad people seem to be enjoying it. Due to the warm reception, I feel that I must go back and do a version 2 that corrects some of the technical faults. If it's this popular, I want you to be able to watch it in the best way possible.

If there's any tech problems you noticed please list them here or on FE.org in a clear, concise list. I'll take a look at it.

There will not be any changes to the actual content of the edit, just fixing technical glitches. I'm happy with the way the actual edit turned out as it stands, and the only time I'll consider altering it is when the Blu-Ray comes out and only if it has some bitchin' deleted scenes.

I think you guys are right. It would definitely be an improvement.

I do have one concern though. I recently rewatched Shroud of the Dark Side, where Anakin is completely redubbed. It works for the most part, but the whole time I was watching it I kept thinking "there's no way that voice is coming out of that guy." I don't want to have that feel in my edit, as it'll just immediately take people out of the story. I'm going to do some tests today.

I would like to pose a question... do you think this project would benefit from a complete dubbing of Hayden Christianson? I have been mulling it over for a while, and I can't decide if the benefits out weight the potential complications.

The benefit is that I can give some of his line readings a better inflection, and in Ep. III especially this could really help with his character and the emotions involved. Another benefit is that, since I'm doing both the narration and some lines for Vader in the suit, it gives Anakin a clear, consistent voice.

The downside is that the narration won't stand out as much, and if there's narration during scenes where Anakin talks, it could be a little confusing. Most of the time, Anakin will not be talking when there's narration.

What do you guys think? It'll be a little extra work but it isn't particularly difficult. I'm not doing many other voice overs, just a few neimoidians. I have a friend that is doing Grievous and probably someone else will do what little of Jar Jar remains.

I will probably be working on a fix of some of those tech problems with Rogue-theX this month and try to get that released. There will be no changes other than fixing the tech problems. The edit will remain the same.

The tech problems are not bad enough to ruin the movie, so if you'd like to watch it now feel free. Just know that they are there.

I'm also thinking of doing a new preview clip. I'm keeping a lot of the big moments and different things I'm trying as surprises, but I want to keep the interest level high while still keeping a lot of it close to the chest. Anything in particular anyone wants to see a test of? I've only edited through to the Podrace, but I'm doing tests of things throughout the whole movie.

What do you want to see?

Haha I know, he's pretty badass in that Endor battle. Some of that Ewok stuff, without the silliness, comes off really brutal. I mean they are beating them to death with rocks. It's hardcore.

Thanks everyone for all the reviews both here and on FE. The rating stands at about 8.5 right now over there, which is fantastic! Again, if you are able to post a review over there it would be very much appreciated. The higher the rating, the more people see it. Especially if I can get the rating high enough to get on the Greatest Star Wars page.

Everyone who posts a review on FE, I'll try to send you a preview clip for Duel of the Fates that I won't be sharing publicly as a thank you.

I see what they mean about those death star shots, but like I've said before, the way it is now is geographical correct based on the movement of the fleet out the window. I couldn't justify having Bob do extra shots that actually don't make any sense. It took him a long time to do the ones they have, and they serve their purpose beautifully.

Thanks for all the reviews guys! Again, if you can post and rate on FE that would be fantastic!

I played with some stuff like that, but it didn't really work for what I'm going for. It's supposed to feel like an old movie, a classic, and having bits of color just made it feel like Sin City. Plus I'd rather focus on getting the story right rather than doing special effects.

And yes, all of the audio is test audio. Not an ounce of it is final, and I have all of your feedback in mind.

That "flaring" effect is just for the prologue, to give it a different feel from the rest of the story.

I'm glad you enjoyed the clip, the response has been really good, and none of the actual movies have been shown yet!

I played with that clip a bit more, taking out some of the more "video game" moments, like the slow motion and stuff. In fact, it looks even more badass when those slow motion moments happen at regular speed.

I'm going to be a little tighter with clips and preview on this than I was with ROTJ, mainly because this is so different from a standard edit that I usually do, I want to maintain some surprises!
