Pirates of The Caribbean: Extended Edition - A Spence Edit (Released)
Time
alright, widescreem dilema solved. I discovered the cropping filter in Womble. Novel idea huh? The answer was right in front of me the whole time, hah. Anyway, the project is nearly done. The only scene i was not able to fit in is the scene toward the end where the bird poops on the two navy men. It's a funny little bit, but given its context it would stand out too much to really fit. The audio and stuff just wouldn't really work, it would disrupt the flow of the film. The finished project should be up on Demonoid in the next couple of days.

In the mean time, check out my King Kong edit that's already up on Demonoid! (Shameless plug)

And i will try to make a DVD-5 of this one.

Pirates of The Caribbean: Extended Edition - A Spence Edit (Released)
Time

Hello everyone, I have nearly wrapped up a project i have been wanting to do for a while. There were a lot of very high quality deleted scenes for the first POTC, and I thought it would be fun to have a longer version of the film incorporating these scenes. Every deleted scene from the dvd is included here, adding about 20 minutes to the running time. Things that have changed:

  • More Jack Sparrow antics. He also has a few more serious moments, mainly with Elizabeth, that add a little more dimension to his character.
  • More of Norrington. He’s less of a stock military character. In his added scenes, you can really feel that he cares of Elizabeth and he is much more sympathetic when the love triangle doesn’t go his way.
  • More fun little character moments with the crews of the different ships.
  • More of Will and Jack in Tortuga, including some extra references to the Disney ride.
  • More of Elizabeth and Jack on the island. My favorite additional scenes are in this section.

Overall these scenes just add a little bit more to an already great film. All of the characters benefit from this extra time.

I know that with some versions of this DVD, there was a third disc in the package titled “The Lost Disc”. Can somebody who has this disc let me know if there are any other deleted scenes on it that are not included in the 2-disc edition?

The project is nearly complete, but I am a little stuck on a certain aspect. Anyone who has seen the deleted scenes knows that they are 1:85:1 and not 2:35:1 like the rest of the film. I have already made them anamorphic, but I still need to add the extra black bars to make the extra scenes 2:35:1. If anyone has a method for doing this, please let me know!

Thank you for your interest!

A few questions...
Time
I changed the aspect ratio fine, but what i really need to do is not change the aspect ratio, but actually just add black bars to make the video 2:35:1 widescreen as opposed to 1:85:1 widescreen. i dont want to change the size of the fram, as its already widescreen anamorphic, just cover pieces of it with black bars.

Info Wanted: What would everyone like to see? (a few re-edits...)
Time

I’ve got a couple of re-edits in mind at the moment, and I’m not sure which one I want to do next. Here is a list of things I’m interested in:

  • Re-editing Pirates of the Carribbean, I’d really like to insert most of those deleted scenes into the film, as I think an epic-length Pirates movie sounds rather good.

  • A Re-working of Matrix 2 & 3 into one, regular length film, about the same length as the first one (a little over two hours). This would probably be the hardest project, but may have the best results.

  • Attempting to make Oliver Stone’s Alexander not only watchable but perhaps even enjoyable (i lied, this might be the hardest project).

  • adding scenes back into Once Upon a Time in Mexico.

  • A Re-edit of Blade Trinity. I know CBB was talking about this, so Boon let me know if this is already in the works.

Suggestions are definitely welcome. Anything anybody would like to see more than these titles?

You can search demonoid to find the link. The DVD I have posted is dual layer and full quality and has chapter stops, but sadly there are no menus as I really dont know how to do that. I'm toying with changing bitrate's and stuff like that so i might be able to get a single layer disc and/or divx encode out if there is any interest in that. anyway I'll seed as often as i can, so enjoy!!

A few questions...

I am currently working on adding some deleted scenes back into Pirates of the Carribean, but some of these scenes are in 1:85:1 widescreen, and the film itself is in 2:35:1. What is the best method for adding extra black bars to these scenes to make them also 2:35:1?

Also, I am having trouble getting my finished MPEG2 files small enough to fit on a single layer disc. What's the best way to compress these files?

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

King Kong: The Spence Edit (Released)
Time

Hi everyone, i just finished my first attempt at re-editing a movie, I did some work on the 2005 King Kong. I always found the film to have a lot of wasted time in it. I have no problem with long movies, but I feel King Kong wandered off on tangents and subplots that never really got resolved (Jimmy and Hayes, the police chasing Denham) I’m also a huge fan of the old 1933 Kong, so I wanted to try and make the new one a little more like that. Here is a list of some of the changes i have made:

  • Jimmy and Hayes are gone. They are just two other crew members, same as Lumpy and Choy.
  • Carl Denham isn’t so villainous anymore. A lot of his more sinister, scheming moments have been removed. He’s a lot more likable and sympathetic in this version.
  • A lot of the New York City scenes have been removed from the beginning of the film. Instead of the long montage of NY, there is a title card that says “New York 1933” and then we go straight to Carl Denham showing the film producers his dailies.
  • Anne Darrow’s scenes at the Vaudeville Theater are removed. The first time we see her, she is talking to Jack Driscoll’s producer about getting the role in the play.
  • It takes a lot less time to get to the island. A lot of the ship scenes have been cut down. The Captain never turns the ship around to take Denham to the police, they just go straight to the island. Also, the sequence of the ship crashing into the rocks is shortened.
  • The Captain doesn’t shoot the native in slow motion for what seemed like ten minutes anymore. One gunshot, native hits the ground, done deal.
  • Kong doesn’t shake Anne around for what seemed like 15 minutes anymore. He roars, shakes her a little, scares her, she stabs him, he picks her up again, scene ends.
  • The bug pit scene has been changed around. It is shorter, and I added some different music to make it feel more like an action scene. The music is from Van Helsing, but I think it fits in well enough.
  • Kong is not deliberately captured anymore. He breaks into the ruins, the crew run away, Denham finds some chloroform and knocks him out, then decides to take him with him. Much like the old film.
  • Most of the end sequence in NY is intact, with little cuts for time’s sake.

I’m not very good at making DVD’s, so I can either post this as an AVI or as a rather crappy DVD. Let me know if anyone’s interested and I’ll post it. Thanks!
