While I personally don’t like the idea of inserting footage from other stuff (besides how Hal made Padmé survived), Shroud had a lot of cool ideas.
For me it’s really case-by-case. With how influenced by Blade Runner the prequels are, though, I would probably be cool with a lot of Blade Runner being put in the prequels.
The Empire regrouping in the Unknown Regions in Return of the Jedi is a lot worse than the galaxy not being a utopia.
I’m having trouble understanding the arguments to hide Anakin’s turn to preserve the twists, I think I’m missing something. My pint was to preserve the whole point of the PT, which is to show Anakin’s fall to the dark side, but the point was to hide the fact that anakin has any relation to Luke. In ANH, Obi-Wan talks about how darth vader was a pupil of his that turned to evil, so the audience (given the footage available) WOULD immediately know that anakin and darth vader are one in the same, but the audience doesn’t necessarily know that darth vader and luke’s father are one in the same. What we know from ANH is that luke’s father was a jedi and that darth vader killed him, so all we have to do is imply that Luke’s father died during the 20 year long jedi purge at the hands of vader. Am I missing something?

I’m gonna be honest with you, as someone who used to make constructed languages and was part of a conlang community, that’s already not looking very good, but it’s no worse than Huttese so it’s not like it would stick out.
It may not be that big of a deal with there being no connection between Luke and Dagobah, but if there is some connection between Luke and Dagobah the line becomes much, much more interesting.
The already released Empire fanedit has the prequel-era logos on it.

If Holdo has been Ackbar it wouldn’t have really worked. The whole point of Holdo is to be someone we don’t know and don’t trust, much like Poe, someone without an established relationship with the audience.
Interesting point, but I’d argue that suits Ackbar’s character perfectly.
From the films we don’t know much about Ackbar. He’s a talented strategist. But the moment the rebels realize the shields are still on, Ackbar immediately says “retreat”. It’s Lando who encourages them to keep fighting. Even the trap line signifies he doesn’t like to have the odds stacked against while on the offensive.
In fact, when we think of Ackbar we immediately go to the Battle of Endor. Like Poe immediately jumping to Holdo’s victory. Poe/audience has high expectations to see the leader in a commanding role, but is disappointed by their retreating. This lines up perfectly for Ackbar, who we all think is cool but know little about.
I imagine people would just hate on TLJ anyway with the claim “they ruined Ackbar”, but personally I think he’d be a better choice.
You can’t really emote or act much in that puppet, though, that’s why he and other Mon Calamari are relegated to background roles.
Embrace radical edits. I don’t think you could make a good prequel trilogy without doing something at least somewhat radical, even if you’re completely starting from scratch, and not just reediting the movie.

Someone asked about cutting down some Mustafar stuff.
I tried this, to remove the over the top fight parts from Obi Wan and Anakin’s duel. Just some different cut and a music track in the end. It doesn’t feel like SW, but I like it.
Of course it’s just a rough edit…

I don’t mind the music that much, although it’s very not Star Wars, as others have pointed out. It’s better than the original fight IMO, but I was hoping there was a way to do it without reinserting the Yoda v Sidious fight.

Maybe we could entirely cut that by showing Yoda on the asteroid meditating. With some montage it could look like he is mentally watching Obi wan and Anakin’s duel.
I actually like that idea. I might try that out.
Frankly, I’d prefer to go the Hal 9000 route and not have Yoda ever confront the Emperor at all, but that’s me.

To what degree do we have control over him? We can politely suggest for him to cut it out, and we can remove his post from this forum, but what else can we really do?
It’s in all of our collective best interest for him to stop, but I don’t think we can do anything beyond just asking him and explaining why it can damage the fanediting community.

How might it be possible to cut down the fight on Mustafar? The whole lava river thing especially is just so ridiculously over the top.
Completely cutting the Death Star would be interesting.
I was working on a fanedit like a year ago where there was only one Death Star, which wasn’t destroyed in ANH. It’s been bogged down and completely restarted from scratch a couple of times, but I haven’t completely thrown it away, if this is close enough.
Frankly I don’t even see why an untouched moon is so unbelievable.
Or even why it has to be completely untouched. It could just be less developed than the Coruscant Ecumenopolis.
A common idea is for Endor, frequently referred to as the forest moon, be the moon of the capital.
Not a bad idea, especially because that wouldn’t be all that hard to execute.
Previous fanedits have moved the Vader/Luke/Emperor scenes to another ship, off of the Death Star. Doing the same but moving it to Had Abbadon or Coruscant is what I’d go with.
