The Promise (2016)

Set during the last days of the Ottoman Empire, at the brink of World War I, The Young Turks plan for the systematic elimination of the Armenian population. The first Genocide of the 20th century claimed the lives of 1.5 million Armenians. Which then led to the Greeks and Assyrians who suffered the same fate.

The movie wraps the historical Genocide with a love triangle between: Mikael Bogohsian (Oscar Issac), Ana Khesarian (Charlotte Le Bon) & Chris Myers (Christian Bale). The love story isn’t perfect, but I felt it was handled a lot better than other movies.

Despite the movie’s subject matter, it doesn’t resort to blood and gore, like The Passions of the Christ. The reason being, is the director Terry George, wanted to make a movie that could be shown in schools.

I recommend watching the movie, as it helps raise the awareness of this brutal act, on fellow human beings.

THE VOID (2017)

Well this one just snuck up on me. Had never heard anything about it before I saw it listed playing at my local theater. Watched the trailer and knew I had to see it.

It’s an 80s horror throwback in the vein of THE THING or a Croenenberg film. I’d say about 99% of the effects were all done practically. Loved that. One of the actors looked alarmingly like Donald Pleasence.

The film itself is pretty good. It’s a tense ride and keeps you on your toes throughout. I’m very impressed with the directors Steven Kostanski and Jeremy Gillespie. I’ll be keeping my eye out for future releases from their production company Astron-6.

If you’re a fan of 80’s horror and or practical effects work you definitely don’t want to miss this one.

I have to check that out.

I have the Single of Batman (1989) soundtrack on cassette. It had Batdance & 200 Balloons.

Batdance! Such a cool album back then - remembering just how hot Kim Basinger was, and how cool it was to have a Batman film out back then 😃

Weirdly, it wasn’t until a lot later than began to fully appreciate Prince - a very underrated guitarist in his own right.

Yes, it was a great song and a music video. True, Prince was a talented guitarist.

ā€œI shot firstā€ was said during the Smuggler’s Revenge audio story and the entire audience clapped and cheered. You don’t think people get that the films were changed?

Well, some suggest that the reason we don’t have the OOT on Blu Ray is because not enough people know or care about the theatrical cuts but we beg to differ

The real question is what is Smuggler’s Revenge to a mainstream audience?

Like I said, go to Google and type unaltered and you tell me what the first or second search suggestion is

I typed ā€˜unaltered’ on Google.ca, and got lots of definition sites on the first page. However, when I typed ā€˜unaltered s’, I did indeed get info about the OT.

And has anyone here got the mad skills to repurpose the Rogue One trailer so that it depicts a rag-tag team of rebels trying to steal the Original Theatrical cut from the Evil Empire? That might go viral! šŸ˜„

Great idea Darth Cracker.

Manos is fine and all (that Torgo theme really sticks with you), but I actually like the short that precedes it better (ā€œHired!ā€). But I’m a big fan of those rare moments where absolutely nothing they can say could possibly make it weirder.

Sounds interesting, I’ll check that out too. Thanks. 😃
