Yes an L cut! Maybe I should consider using editing terminology! š
Yes an L cut! Maybe I should consider using editing terminology! š
My thought was, that the line would be coming from the next scene. (example: TFA - The scavenger, resisted you?!) So you wouldnāt need a reaction shot of Anakin/Padme in the hallway.
So in theory, it would be:
I had a thought about cutting the droid factory and using the Padme/Dooku scene:
What if Anakin and Padme enter into the darkened hallway (before the actual factory) and have a voice over of Dooku saying something like āGreetings, senatorā (youād have to find an appropriate line to insert). You could then cut or wipe to the Padme/Dooku scene. ā¦Maybe?
Maybe it should be the glowing āpeaceā orb from the end of TPM. š
Yeah!!!
Woah, thatās an interesting ideaā¦I think I like it š
Indeed it is.
OK, so I couldnāt help myself:

So I didnāt actually do a wip pan, I know. Still funny IMO.
How about:
Padme: āā¦as a member of the senate, maybe I can find a diplomatic solution to this mess.ā
WIP PAN
Anakin and Padme handcuffed in the chariot.
š
Thanks Ben!
I was just getting ready to post another idea:

If I can adjust the colors for the new shots, Iāll probably use some version of this. I like how it gives a bit more gravitas to the Jediās plight. I donāt need Yoda sensing Anakinās pain anyway. Plus, the whole mystery of who ordered the clones will be gone. Not sure about Jango yetā¦
Iām actually considering using this as one of the final scenes in the movieā¦it would completely replace the scene of Obi/Mace/Yoda talking about Dooku and the Clone Wars.
I know Yodaās lipsync is a bit off, but itās a small price to pay for what I think plays as a much better scene. Besides, I might be able to improve the lipsync latter.
Oh it absolutely was added later for the DVD release. Not in the theatrical cut.
So Iāve been going back and forth on possible new video editor software. I used to use an older version of Adobe Premiere for a few years (couldnāt afford anything for that time) and just a few months ago started using Vegas Pro 15. While I like certain elements of it, I feel Premiere (even my old version) is much more intuitive. And yet, I keep hearing how many bugs there are in Premiereā¦plus the whole subscription thing is kind of mehā¦I downloaded Davinci Resolve and have started looking into itā¦and maybe itās because I used Premiere for so long, but it just seems to take forever to accomplish anything in it (especially the node based Fusion). Iām leaning towards After Effects forā¦wellā¦effects work but Iām undecided about the editing side of things.
Iām fully willing to admit I havenāt wanted to put in the effort to learning something other than Adobeā¦BUTā¦
What does everyone else use? For editing and effects? Iām curious AND your views might help me make a decision. š
I can only suggest looking at Ewans interviews from that time period. Maybe he said it in passing. Either that or try to take different sylables from his lines in the movies to cobble something together.
Coming back to the droid torture stuffā¦what if instead of heat on the gonk droids feet it went more like this:

Thanks!
I agree about the slow-moā¦Iām thinking (if the idea is even used) that it can be made to look more convincing (probably using After Effects).
Once Qui-Gon says, āI must speak to the Jedi Council immediately. The situation has become much more complicated,ā cut to the Jedi Temple establishing shot. It is unnecessary for Palpatine to blatantly manipulate PadmĆ© to propose a vote of no confidence; he subtly manipulates PadmĆ© in the Senate scene later. Arguably, Palpatineās reliance on blatant manipulation weakens his character, which would be stronger if he could manipulate PadmĆ© into proposing the vote without directly suggesting it.
Hmmm. I hadnāt thought about this before. Are you suggesting cutting the entire scene? You would loose some info like setting up the republic (āis not what it once wasā) and the senate (āfull of greedy squabbling delegatesā) that I think is necessary.
Cut āWithout the Viceroy, they will be lost and confusedā because it would be more accurate to say āWithout the droid control ship, they will be lost and confused.ā
PadmƩ should still mention the droid control ship in her plan because the whole military strategy revolves around it. I would recommend recutting the scene like so:
PADMĆ: We can enter the city using the secret passage on the waterfall side. Then we can enter the palace and capture the Viceroy.
QUI-GON: The Viceroy will be well-guarded.
PADMĆ: We have a plan which should immobilize the droid army. We will send what pilots we have to knock out the droid control ship orbiting the planet.āThis clarifies that capturing the Viceroy is the goal, but destroying the droid control ship is the requirement necessary to achieve that goal.
Hmmā¦what if the lines could be tweaked further to something like:
PADME: We will send what pilots we have to knock out the droid control shipā¦which should immobilize the droid army.
Her line āWe have a planā is so awkward and dull soundingā¦plus this makes it more condensed and to-the-point.
I also like this clip Snooker posted a while back with a new intro for Anakin:
I really like this idea of Anakin racing twice and loosing the first time.
I was watching it again today and thought about what might happen nextā¦so I threw this together:

@snooker
This is excellent! Iām amazed at how much the tone is changed by new music and removing Anakinās lines. And YES you should start your own thread!..and your own edit! š
OK, I was actually trying to find which TV Guide I wouldāve seen back then and came across these 4 different covers for TPM. I donāt remember seeing this artwork beforeā¦pretty cool.

Damn! Then they did 4 more a month later!

Then for AOTC they had 3 covers:

I donāt remember if the John Williams interview (which wasnāt very long) wouldāve been in any of these issuesā¦although I typically would look through issues that had something on the cover I was attracted to. It more than likely wouldāve been one of TPM issues. Because it was definitely before AOTC came out.
Hmmmā¦it could be in this one tooā¦

It helps that itās louder for sure. He still speaks too quickly for me. But if everyone else gets it then Iāll shut up.
OK, it may only be me but 3PO speaks so quickly I canāt entirely make out what heās saying:
āI have neverā¦somethingā¦missionā¦somethingā¦that nature.ā Thatās all I understand.
@timdiggerm
OK, yes, this is something I think Iāve heard before. Are there articles that talk about this anywhere? maybe on the DVD commentaries or something?
Thereās even parts where thereās lots of āloopingā. Like in the Zam chase thereās some percussion that seems to go on and on, where you wouldnāt normally hear this from Williams. The āmystery/Kaminoā theme: even though it sounds kind of OT, again, itās on a kind of loop if you will. Across the Stars is a nice piece, but it always seems to play out in itās entirety. Whereas lots of times in the OT a theme will begin to play but then it will transition to something else as an action or emotion changes on screen. At least, this is what Iām picking up on.
On another note, I seem to recall in an old TV Guide with an interview of John Williams. It came out sometime after TPM but before AOTC. He mentions adding the Death Star music from ANH into AOTC. Of course, it aināt in the movieā¦and I donāt know why. I donāt know if anyone has access to old TV Guides cirra 2000-2002, but that would be an interesting findā¦if Iām even remembering correctly.
Ah ok. So yes there is some of this going on by using bits of TPM score towards the end of the movie.
Yes I did know about the bonus track. The end of the track they used in the TV spots for AOTC. I remember taking not of it at the time but then noticed later (probably once on DVD) that it was absent from the movie.
I seem to recall hearing a classical piece very very similarā¦maybe by Holstā¦donāt remember.
I know youāre looking at changing it again but since there doesnāt appear to be a shot of Rey waking from the dream, the shot of R2 āwakingā kind of works as a replacement.
Ah ok. Good to know. With that bit of info, I bet the Yoda/Dooku battle is one example of this. Iām sure it took them quite a while to nail down the timing of all the shots in that sequence. So to have the freedom to mix certain musical elements well into the editing phase would be helpful Iām sure. However, (if Iām even understanding all of this correctly) the score does seem to also suffer in this regard. John Williams TPM score is so wonderful (even putting aside Duel of the Fates, which Iām a bit sick of) and insanely detailed (for lack of a better musical term) while AOTC doesnāt seem to have nearly the same effort put into it.
Does anyone know why the Arena battle music wasnāt used but then latter repurposed in ROTS? If it had been used, where would it have been inserted exactly?
