Ah, I was wondering why Azureus was giving me messages to that effect -- I thought it might have been a problem on my end. Hopefully, it'll be back up soon!
Actually, I'm not getting much seedage on the torrent over in my neck of the woods. And such seedage would certainly be appreciated, as I've been excited to see this as soon as I found out about it.
I know very little about this sort of thing, but they've apparently been having quite the field day over in the Building Empire thread about doing this type of conversion for that film. I think it was around here that the discussion got underway, but the last few pages have a lot of discussion around different conversion methods. Sounds like it's not too easy, unfortunately. Good luck, though!
And the work you're doing really is amazing, Adywan. At some point, might you release more details as to exactly how you're doing some of these effects -- perhaps even a guide for those of us aspiring to your level of work?
Take care, Sojourn
P.S. I'll fall asleep tonight dreaming of an entire book devoted to your techniques, with step-by-step instructions, and color graphics . . . zzz . . .
A set of tools for fan editors would be really awesome. This color correction code appears to be amazingly effective, from looking at the sample images Laserman posted. However, other than playing around a bit with Basic back in the day, I don't have any programming experience -- so all of that code looks rather intimidating to me. It would be awesome if either a free program specifically for this purpose was created, or if it could be incorporated into an existing free program, so everyone could take advantage of this! Any developments so far?
I think I understand now. I had thought that "Anamorphic" meant that the TV/DVD player was automatically resizing the image for you, to make the most of whatever screen resolution you had. Does what you are saying mean, though, that if in the future, widescreen televisions change from being 16:9 to 2.35:1, "Anamorphic" would start becoming as outdated as "letterboxing" currently is for 16:9 TVs -- as in, the anamorphic discs would essentially be "letterboxed" for a 16:9 screen, therefore putting black bars on not only the top and bottom, but also the left and right of a 2.35:1 screen?
I feel like TVs/DVD players are (or at least should be) smarter than this by now -- if I can take a video file and play it through a DivX Player on my 15" (fullscreen) laptop screen, and then take the same file and play it on my friend's computer, through the DivX player on his machine, which is displaying it on his 15.4" widescreen laptop screen, and the aspect ratio remains untouched (i.e. the video file is not distorted in any way, the computer just automatically adjusts how much of the screen it takes up, and automatically adds the necessary black bars), then why can't TVs and DVD players do the same thing? A video iPod, when hooked up to different televisions, also does the same thing -- on a widescreen television, it plays the video with the appropriate aspect ratio, and does the same for a fullscreen television.
If that's the case, then shouldn't "anamorphic" video really "morph" and adapt to whatever screen it is being displayed on?
Thanks for the info. Is it legal to make covers based on just saving images one finds? Or is there another way that people get a hold of them that makes them better/more legal for making covers?
I really like using the Death Star for the disc art, as well, Darth Solo. I think it looks awesome!
So where are everyone getting these pieces of art, as well as their logos? Jambe (or should I say "Jambe", like the blurb you gave us? ), did you release a .png of the Returning to Jedi logo, or something like that? I'd really like to join the cover-making masses, but I don't know where you guys get all of this fantstic high-res imagery, along with all of your logos, etc. If you'd rather not post it in the thread, please PM me about it!
If that's the case (thanks for your explanation, by the way!), then why would the black bars be necessary? I thought anamorphic meant that there weren't black bars, and that the image was automatically resizing to fit on whatever screen it's playing on -- is this just resizing from 16:9 to 2.35:1, or is it full letterboxing (i.e. 2.35:1 image in a 4:3 image)?
Wouldn't it be better to just make the footage anamorphic instead of letterboxing it (which is what my understanding of what you're doing is)? And if so, how would one turn letterboxed footage into anamorphic in a program like Premiere?
Wouldn't changing the voices on the stormtroopers contradict everything about there being an Imperial Academy? I thought that stormtroopers were real people, too (i.e. not all clones).

No, the ADM versions are different -- there have been a lot of fan edits of the films, and the Phantom Edits and the ADM editions are just two of many that have been made.
I'm not sure that the MySpleen links for the Phantom Edits are still active. And while I'm pretty sure that we're not allowed to post direct torrent links on the forum, you could search at Mininova for them, and find them that way (that's what I'm currently doing).
Yeah, but if the next set is going to be in the next-generation high-definition format, they're going to want to release the Special Editions in that format, since we don't have them in HD yet (aside from rips of the HD showings on television). And if LFL views those editions as the "definitive" editions of the films, I would think that those would be the ones they would want to ensure got the HD treatment.
