STAR WARS Rebels Season 1: Light Saber fix and Vader Red EYE removal (Part Finished - WIP)

strange you have a problem with the lightsabers. I remember they did a small Youtube feature in the lead up to the Rebels premiere where they discussed how they painstakingly tried to recreate the look of the sabers from the original film.

I remember that! It made me pretty excited to see it actually because they look more like the sabers from ANH or TPM

Info Wanted: Unreleased Star Wars Scores?
Time

I know that there are threads on alternate tracks for SW movie scenes and that there are also threads on preserving songs that were in the films but I’m looking for sources of SW music that has never been in films or albums. I have come across a few interesting songs on this channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/FilmScoreMedia/playlists

Does anyone know where you would get this stuff?

Star Wars Holiday Special - Zion Hybrid v2 (Released)
Time

Zion said:

Partially, yes. As I mentioned, this is a beta release, and one of the things I intend to do for the final release is fix some interlacing issues in the menus and with the main program itself. It’s not seriously messed up or anything - far from it. But my workflow for this release ended up being a conversion from 29.97 interlaced to 29.97 progressive in order to make things like resizing and noise reduction more effective. The final product ended up back at 29.97i, but I’ve noticed some jaggies and aliasing issues here and there, such as in the opening crawl and some of the chapter menus. Since my workflow is entirely within Adobe After Effects and Premiere, I haven’t been able to use any of the Avisynth tools I normally do.

Sounds good, I’ll wait for the final release 😃

Have you made any changes to the video itself? Or is this exactly the same as the Editdroid version?

Yes, the EditDroid source has been enhanced with color correction, some noise filtering, and a strategic amount of sharpening (I was not nearly as liberal with the sharpening tool this time around).

Sweet! I agree that Editdroid’s version needed some colour-correction and noise filtering. Have you done any de-interlacing? That was the one issue (other than the film itself) that really bugged me.

Info: - Greedo & Jabba subtitles, theatrical placement and fonts -
Time

CatBus said:

Okay, the fonts are now available as part of the just-released Project Threepio v9.1. There will always be room for improvement, and I’ll probably make some small adjustments over time. Nothing is ever final.

One judgment call I made about Star Wars was that our most widely-available subtitle reference, -1’s Silver Screen Edition, has some pretty noticeable light bleed, adding to the glow of the subtitles, and slightly increasing how thick they appear. I opted to reconstruct a subtitle reference that attempts to create the actual edges of the characters without that glow, and match that reference with the font – so with any undertaking like that, there’s room for error. So while the Star Wars font is designed to work at Normal weight, people trying to match the Silver Screen Edition may have better luck with Bold weight.

Will these be on the spleen? If not, whereabouts can I get them?

Wow!! I really like this. I’m not sure what you’re going to do about the battle later, but I’m definitely looking forward to this! Here’s to radical edits

Thanks! The final battle won’t have a dogfight because it’s tied directly to the Gungan battle and the only character to be invested in would be Anakin who shouldn’t be there in the first place. The ending will focus on Padme and the Jedi only.

OPEN SUGGESTION for EP III and VII Edit to reduce pg-13 to PG
Time

I’d say that the guy’s bloody severed arm in Mos Eisley is more gory than anything in TFA.

I checked out the christian family movie review website: pluggedin.ca and checked both of the movies you listed and here are the more reasonable arguments:

ROTS:

Several flesh-and-blood characters lose limbs to those with better lightsaber skills. In its description of these violent elements, USA Today’s movie preview read a lot like the ones we write here at Plugged In Online: “Children are slain. The heroic Jedi Knights are all but slaughtered. Characters lose arms, legs and heads in lightsaber duels. Anakin is dismembered and then catches fire, screaming in agony while the flesh peels off his body.”

TFA:

Lots of people die, Star Wars-style, from laser blasts. (Which means there’s little to no blood.) Stormtroopers go flying from explosions. To put it another way, the body count here is outrageously high while the gore level registers at near “antiseptic.” When Kylo Ren arrives on Jakku, Finn sees one of his fellow Stormtroopers die, and the expiring soldier leaves bloody finger streaks across Finn’s helmet. A tentacled creature gets slammed in a door, which severs various appendages. That creature and its mates roll through a ship trying to eat anything that moves. (They sometimes succeed, just out of the frame). Lightsabers are the cause of several (instantly cauterized) injuries, and a couple of people die from a saber to the gut. (It juts out the other side.)

The ones in TFA IMO aren’t anything to be concerned about, Darth Maul getting cut in half while the mist of his blood flies up is more violent than Han getting stabbed and now that I think of it, Han’s death barely shows anything, the injury is left to the imagination whereas Qui-Gon’s death shows his injury front and back as well as Darth Maul pulling the blade out. ROTS is warranted a PH-13 rating but I think if you cut the kids being murdered on screen and remove the majority of the decapitations then it wouldn’t be that bad.

One of the bigger ones that make ROTS inappropriate is the death of children. I don’t know if any edits cut Anakin drawing a lightsaber on kids as well as a few hologram shots and Bail Organa watching a kid get shot to death. IMO TFA is completely fine is not more appropriate than ANH, I’ve seen it three times and the only thing I can think if is Finn saying “Hell” twice in the movie.

Nevermind, the above image was a reconstruction. This whole Technicolor/Eastman distinction appears to be nonexistent. Technicolor matches Eastman, one font will do, all is well in the world. But I did a lovely job reconstructing the reconstruction, don’t you think?

Looks really good! Will this be included in the next version of project threepio?

Not that it will necessarily pertain to this edit, but I’ve always felt that in the Prequels yoda would have been much more effective as a character less seen and more heard. I always had the impression that yoda was essentially every living jedi’s teacher in that he was like the principal of the jedi “school” and the masters were the “teachers” that taught various disciplines of yoda’s philosophies. Just my two cents.

I actually really like this idea. Having Yoda as more of a mystical figure really appeals to me. Hmmm…I may have to rethink a few things. I still think his final scene with Obi Wan is absolutely necessary.

That’s pretty much what I’m doing in my edit, although I disagree that his final scene with Obi-Wan is necessary because right after during the funeral, Obi-Wan says to Anakin: “The Council has granted me permission to train you… You will be a Jedi, I promise” that specific line sums up the entire conversation between Yoda and Obi-Wan. Also it’s pretty strange that Obi-Wan is never distressed about Qui-Gon’s death until two scenes later at the Funeral. IMO the Yoda scene is just boring filler.

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (Cracker of Justice Edit)

I agree, I liked that Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan would watch the invasion army come in, but then if I had it like you said where the army immediately invades Theed, the next shot of Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan would have to start with them sitting down at the table, which must be for a considerable amount time given the army has already landed on the planet and invaded the capital city. Like TV’s Frink said, it makes both of them look like idiots for not doing anything as the planet is literally being invaded.

I didn’t see Frink say that and I can’t seem to find it but that’s a pretty good point which is kind of a bummer. Another thing I noticed in your latest clip is that several shots will suddenly zoom in at the last second, it’s really jarring.

And to address the notion of Dooku appearing out of nowhere…honestly, I think that’s part of his problem in Episode II anyway. He’s a villain that shows up out of nowhere and gives an expositional speech as to why he’s the new villain. I feel like if I can find a conceivable way to introduce him into Episode I, he’ll at least be a familiar face in II and we’ll have some notion of who he is. Actually, as I’m typing this out, I’m thinking showing him in the council would work really well. I’ll see what I can do.

In the beginning of the movie when Obi and QGJ are aboard the federation ship, Obi says “master Yoda said I should be mindful of the future.” Would it add anything to have him say master dooku? I think this change be used as foreshadowing for what about to happen over the next two movies between him and Obi? Plus, of course, we hear the name dooku early which helps establish continuity for his character.

I think that would be fairly easy to do actually, you just have to find Obi-Wan saying it in the right tone.
