They killed Darth Maul? WTFudge!! And what about those Japanese accents? Some folks are going to get mad at that.
Mostly, I kept trying to convince myself that the confusion that I felt was because the movie was new, not because it had big problems. Now I know better.

Yeah, it wasn't bad. Trek 4 (aka The One With The Whales) was the same story as Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
