ON HOLD: A New Hope: ReVHSed (Pan & Scan of Adywan's Revisited)

All you guys are soo sick!

After I read the first posts I scroll up to check if it was piostet on Aprils fools day.... but .. but.. you are serious!

Well.. how do I get it, after its finished? I really love the idea!

Its bad that LaserDisc is no longer produced, and that it is impossible to find a small private LD-pressing factory where this idead could be released for fans in the forum as LD. :) This isn't a joke, I would love to have adywans revisited on VHS or VHS style.. but in LaserDisc it would be really awesome!

If you've got $5000 lying around, it can be done! ;)

On a related note, has anybody seen that promo on Adult Swim for their block party thing? It looks like they dubbed it off to U-matic and back to have analog video tracking errors on purpose!

Anyone have the The Empire Strikes Back material from Entertainment Weekly?
Time

It covered some of the post production phase as well.

But I fear if they do use any of it, those pesky things Lucas wish he hadn't said in 1979 will be found nowhere outside of slowly disintegrating 30 year old paperbacks.

I did buy the magazine today, and picked up Star Wars insider as well. It has a few pages of Empire storyboards, and yet another picture of Leia and Chewie making out. ;)

Ideas and Suggestions for :Star Trek The Motion Picture (True Fan Edit)

The only problem with that is there's ample evidence from TNG and First Contact that the Borg were around centuries before the events of TMP.

How about a closeup of a Borg style display with V'Gers transmission being intercepted/received, combined with the opening shot from FC of the massive Cube interior? Picard would have to be erased from the shot somehow...

Is there any way to morph the starchild from 2010 into a Decker/Ilia/V'Ger hybrid? ;)

I'm glad there wasn't a DVD I missed out on then!

The LDDB says the theatrical cut was out on LD in 1981. I'm pretty sure I saw  VHS and Beta copies around before the SLV replaced it after '83. Paramount kept the catalog numbers the same.

The story circulating at the time the Letterbox LD's came out was that Robert Wise preferred the theatrical version. It was also rumored that the footage added to the 1983 ABC broadcast, (which became the SLV on video) had been tossed, making a widescreen version impossible.

Imagine the surprise when all those extra scenes popped up on disc 2 of the DE in widescreen!

Childhood Misconceptions (aka The Trap Thread, but misconceptions still welcome)
Time

I though it was "Garth Vader" for a while back in '77. I have no idea why. ;)

When I first saw the DSII on the cover of Starlog before Jedi came out, I was convinced it was the remains of the original Death Star being rebuilt.

I also thought Boussh was a new bounty hunter or mercanary hired to help rescue Han. Boussh would be revealed as a woman, who falls for Han, and cause more complications for the now infamous love triangle. Amazing that the truth didn't leak out before opening day!

Star Wars 1977 70mm sound mix recreation [stereo and 5.1 versions now available] (Released)
Time

This site has some info on the sound mixes. And what came first.

http://www.in70mm.com/news/2003/star_wars/index.htm

There are theatrical DTS discs of the SE in private hands. The labels indicate they have a six track mix. I don't think anybody has ever figured out how to play them without the proper gear though.

Info: The NEW 007 DVD's

Is it worth looking for the early THX mastered snapper DVDs of Dr. No, FRWL, Goldfinger, TSWLM, and Moonraker?

The early Moonraker disc is the only case of DVD rot I've ever had. Even my PC can't read it. It also suffered a bit from cramming the whole movie on a single layer. (Pan and scan version on the other layer as opposed to a being a flipper.) I miss the menus it had though. It and TSWLM actually came out as MGM switched to regular cases though.

Dr. No, FRWL, and Goldfinger are worth getting if you want to see the open matte transfers, or see the wires that were digitally painted out on the Lear Jet models. ;)

I thought it looked familiar! Forgot Voyager was using mostly CGI by that point.

Could it still work for viewscreen shots? Or Chekov's targeting display?

And Jeyl, Voyager was shot on film, but edited on video, which means we may never see it in HD. Cropping the shots can be done, as with the proposed prologue using TOS footage shown a couple pages back.

It's a shame post production was rushed to meet the release date, resulting in dodgy matte lines and such. Douglas Trumbull couldn't have been too happy having his name on the final product.

I've been wondering if the raw FX footage was saved. TNG used a shot of the Klingon cruiser a few times in the early seasons, only it had a new starfield behind it. And the engine glow was changed from red to blue.
