What could anyone gain from putting their life and that of their family in jeopardy on a false accusation? Ford is going to be watching her back possibly the rest of her life. The world is full of crazies who hold grudges, unfortunately.

We’re probably seeing the last generation where some sort of tangible evidence of one’s unsavory past is hard to come by. Future politicians and would be nominees are going to have their digital and social media skeletons to deal with. But the internet seldom forgets.

Did we see the same movie? Roy’s wife bailed on him and took the kids with her when he went crazy. They weren’t exactly standing by him. And the kids came off as dullard brats who fancied goofy golf over a seeing a Disney film. Odds are the wife was going to want a divorce. Stay on Earth and pay alimony and child support for the next 15 years, or go with the aliens and possibly be declared legally dead? Tough choice! 😛

Contrast with Elliott, who has plenty of reasons to stay and not go with E.T. Although the feds probably followed him and his family’s every move for decades just in case E.T. ever came back.

It’s unfortunate that the 50th anniversary of Yellow Submarine seems to have been poorly publicized if it was promoted at all. I only found out there was a theatrical reissue when I saw it listed in the box office figures over the summer. It doesn’t seem to have played Los Angeles at all, which makes no sense.

I’m sure the Blue Meanies are behind this debacle. 😉

Is a Nute Gunray joke really appropriate here? And it’s apparently up to three accusers now.

Maybe not. I certainly didn’t mean to offend anyone, and definitely no disrespect intended to the accusers in this case. I will delete the pic.

I haven’t seen anything about a third accuser, link?

Could be a fourth one in the wings now as well.

You realize he was just parodying you when you say you aren’t going to engage with insert poster right?

Also I must admit my understanding of DW is very limited, but HAS it always been a male? I thought it was kinda like a trill. Sure it always HAS been a male, but does it HAVE to be? I mean it’s not like Luke was suddenly a woman in the ST or anything, doesn’t the very gimmick of the series enable the doctor to be a woman sometimes?

The Doctor turned into a woman in The Curse Of The Fatal Death, which was a one off comedy special that aired during a charity telethon in the 1990’s. Coincidentally, that was written by Steven Moffat, who worked on the new version of the show until recently.

Non-canon as far as I know.

Yes, I’m just saying the idea has been around a while. If you count the Peter Cushing Dalek movies, the 1970’s stage play, and an animated web series, there are a lot of non-canon Doctors floating around.

Doctor Who

My local PBS station would run entire stories on weekends, so I’ve seldom experienced classic Who drawn out over weeks.
Tom Baker was the only Doctor I knew as a kid, since very few American markets ever got the Jon Pertwee episodes back in the 70’s.
Having seen more of Patrick Troughton’s era, thanks to recovered episodes and animated reconstructions, he’s currently my second favorite these days.

I still marvel at what they could pull off with limited resources and technology in the 1960’s era.

Some versions of Battle don’t even have that scene essentially setting up the future bomb cult. I’ve long been fascinated by the concept that the films are a gigantic time loop with variations every time it plays out. Kind of like that one Star Trek TNG episode.

David Gerrold, (who wrote the novelization of the movie) got to play an ape extra, and wrote an account in Starlog magazine about what it was like to be an ape for a day. And how weird it is to use a urinal with ape hands on. 😉

Also, you haven’t lived until you’ve seen Paul Williams in full ape makeup singing on the Tonight Show.

Warb, are you seriously bothered by the fact that the advertising for the first season with a female Doctor emphasizes the fact that the Doctor is female? What the fuck did you expect? It’s advertising designed to attract an audience,

a pro-feminist audience.

Don’t understand why that’s an issue. Any network will always want to increase their viewership, same as any company will always want to increase their profits (as for television, more viewers = more profit). This is the first woman Doctor, so why wouldn’t they try to target feminists (or pro-feminists, if that’s even a thing) in their advertising?

it’s not necessarily indicative of any stance the episodes may or may not take.

I didn’t say it was indicative of any stance that episodes may or may not take

Then what’s your point?

Warbler said:

It is clear this is marketed to feminists. ugh.

So you are an anti-feminist. I’m glad you’ve admitted it, which is the first step towards solving your problem. The next step is moving out of the sexist 1950s and into the 21st century.

mods, if you want me to give this the response it deserves(which would be against the rules), I suggest you tell him to back off and not call me anti-feminist again.

I suggest you stop telling the mods how we should handle your threats.

Cat got your tongue, SilverWook?

Info & Info Wanted: Burger Chef / Burger King promotions
Time

I can’t recall ever seeing a Burger Chef restaurant back then. My family moved around the country several times over the years in the 70’s.
It’s possible they were operating in regions where there wasn’t a Burger King, and hence could offer the same Coca Cola movie tie-in promotions.
When I lived in New Jersey back in the late 70’s there were no Kentucky Fried Chicken locations to be found. But there was a burger chain called Gino’s that offered KFC food in addition to their own menu. That massively confused me as a kid. 😉

JEDIT:I swear I saw the posters at BK too. I never got one for some reason. One wall in my room was already covered in SW posters and newspaper clippings. Still have all my glasses though. 😃
