I don't think I've ever seen the twin Death Stars one before!
I don't think I've ever seen the twin Death Stars one before!
The very first piece of SW merchandise I can ever remember having was the Star Wars portfolio. I liked McQuarrie's designs better sometimes than what appeared in the finished film.
Star Wars might not have ever gotten the greenlight from Fox, if not for his work.
I hope his art will continue to inspire people well into the future.

Actually you could go a little further with that idea. There are plenty of suggestive shots from Star Wars and other genre films you could lay over the song. ;)
I thinking maybe a mix of Naked Gun and Star Wars footage. Also thinking of replacing the music...haven't decided on a song yet though. One of the ridiculous love scene songs in "The Room" might be funny.
Might this work?

As for replacing Naked Gun shots, some suggestions:
Escape pod launch.
Artoo's probe thingy interfacing with computer console.
Artoo being spit out by swamp monster.
Asteroid slug coming out of hole.
Pod Racers going into tunnel.
Crowd standing and cheering Pod Race, or just Watto's group.
Gungan sub propeller from deleted scene.
Jabba dying.
Torpedoes going down DS exhaust port.
Guy throwing switch on Death Star
Alderaan exploding or fireworks over Coruscant.

Probably the only clip that wasn't on some old analog tape the Oscar people had access to. It would be like dropping VHS footage into all the HD stuff, if they were aware of the SE changes at all.
I know, but they could have chosen some other scene than the CGI X-Wing and TIE fighter battle, maybe a dialogue clip or something. It was like "here's some great scenes from old classics" and bam, CGI in 70's film.
That is the root of the problem. They probably don't even know it's an SE shot. Even the making of ESB book had a couple SE stills creep in by mistake.
We're coming up on the 15th anniversary of the SE's, and it's likely they are supplanting people's memories at this point.

Monty Python actually did the gag years before Naked Gun.
It might work better with all Star Wars footage too.

Great article! The tidbit about "Matt" having worked on an early telecine that may have been the "HBO version" is interesting, since there's a fan preservation project of that ongoing around here.
It's sad to see their copy of Empire is that faded. I would have expected Star Wars to be the problematic one.
Lucasfilm's continued negative attitude towards screenings of the original version, even in an purely academic/historical context, is enough to make my head implode.
1200 ft. reels are going to be an even bigger pain than the Derann 600 reels are currently.
You'd think somebody on here would know someone with the skills to make a custom reel with one of those 3D printers.
Whoosh!

I can't tell you how thrilled I was to find that last shot of Padme's mom looking wistful (though it had to be reversed to get the right look). It literally gave me the giggles.
Wistful wasn't the word that popped into my head. ;)

I thought she said "soul sister"?
Winner winner, Amidala Family Dinner!
Her sister's name is "Sola." So she now says "This is my soul sister, Sola." Incidentally, she might also be saying "This is my sole sister, Sola." Incidentally, that could mean she's only got one sister, or that her sister is a fish. Or the bottom of a shoe.
And did I just see Padme's mom get the hots for Anakin? O_O
What you saw, if I did it correctly, was the implication that she and Anakin had a fling in the past. Which is why Anakin says "What are you doing here?" and then a whole mess of awkward follows.
I get it now. I was still laughing over Artoo's lines first time I watched it.
At least he's a redshirt. Landing party duty for you, Mr. Binks! ;)

BTW, I love what you're doing with Artoo.
Captain Eo has been back in Disney parks for a couple years now.
I don't know if it's in it's original 3D format, or one of the new systems.

I think Frink dropped a hint about the song he's going to use for the clone factory in that new clip. ;)
Who, me?
http://vimeo.com/37782090
I want to add end credits to the last shot during the music video, in the style of the old school MTV videos (you know, back when they actually played videos). Unfortunately my usually impressive Google Fu skills have deserted me, and I've been unable to track down a good screenshot or video clip giving me an example of the format. While the font style would be useful, I'm really interested in the format. I *think* it was this:
Artist
Song
Album
Label
Any help would be hot.
This ought to be of help. (At 2:30)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTSjhm2t8ms
The 90's version sometimes added a director's credit in addition to the above.
I managed to get the whole set over a five month period, so keep looking.
It's the blue elephants you need to worry about. ;)
Nice find.
Marqaund was barely represented on the Blu Ray supplements. Whether you love or loathe Jedi, the man has been forgotten in some ways.
I think Frink dropped a hint about the song he's going to use for the clone factory in that new clip. ;)
Okay, I have got to hear how Jar Jar sounds in Swedish!
Ebay sellers inevitably break these sets up. They did it with the SW Blu Rays.
I suddenly feel a bit older today.
It occurred to me when I heard the sad news, that the Monkees did something the Beatles never quite managed to do. They reunited.
I would hope all the vintage documentaries are included, and not sourced from ancient, washed out video masters.
