Disney Acquires LucasFilm for $4.05 billion, Episode 7 in 2015, 8 and 9 to Follow, New Film Every 2-3 Years

I go out for the evening, and people start getting cranky with each other, sheesh. I still have a he who shall not be named hangover. ;)

I don't think it's possible to avoid reference to anything from the prequels the way the rest of the Star Trek films essentially ignored the events of TMP. Coruscant is the hub of the Galaxy, unless events take the plot far from there.

Whatever government the Rebellion formed post Jedi would probably want to set up shop there. I would hope that for the most part, the sequels take us to new worlds we haven't seen before on screen.

I like the Victory Celebration quite a bit as well, having grown up with the SE.

Yub Nub has grown on me, though. To the point where I prefer it.

In the end, they're two very different endings for two very different film series; Yub Nub is the perfect closure for the OT alone (a big, but also very personal victory, with a lot more work to be done), but when you look at the broader picture with the PT and the idea that Jedi was supposed to be the end of Star Wars period, the Victory Celebration fits well (though I've always thought it was a bit weird that Tatooine cared given their backwaterness and Hutt control, and the reaction on Coruscant seemed a bit over-the-top, but that's what Star Wars is about, people rising up to throw off the shackles of oppression-I mean young hot sexy muscular Hayden Christensen (AKA HayChris) with the handsome face before he turned into the white egg man in the cyborg samurai armour with the James Earl Jones voice Darth Vader).

You have an interesting view of hotness. Still the celebrations on other planets didn't really make sense to me. Even with crazy interstellar communications, it would take awhile for the credibility of the message to be established. "Hey Phil, yeah I'm out here on this random moon of Endor *static* sorry what? Anyways, we just blew up the Death Star, and yeah the Emperor is totally dead. And Vader too. So go tell everybody to celebrate." I think the celebrations would have been days or weeks later perhaps. I like Yub Nub also because it's not as epic. It has that quirky and unpretentious Star Wars sensibility.

FYI, Tyrphanax is riffing on our recent troll with the Hayden obsession. ;)

If there's a logical reason for Obi Wan to reappear, then it boils down to whether Sir Alec is recreated or Ewan gets made up to look older. Having anyone else play the role will not go over well with fans.

I really don't see any major PT characters coming back, as they're mostly dead by the end of ROTS. ;)

You need to take most reviews with a grain of salt.

I don't know. If the reviews weren't so vastly widespread, and were written in all caps with horrible grammar and spelling, maybe I'd trust them less, but as it is, I have doubts that it's simply due to human error.

If you're a Costco member, they usually have brand name models at under $100 this time of year.

I've seen a Sony model at my local Walgreens of all places.

Yeah, I've seen lots of brand names advertised at other retailers for under $100, these are the "really bad reviews" models I spoke of.

Heck, I checked Toshiba's website, and their highest ranked model only had 2.5 out of 5 stars (not that I trust Toshiba much, with the experience I've had).

I know I should probably think more highly of Sony for having come up with the BD format in the first place, but I've seen enough of their CD players and Playstations fall apart...

Now that I think about it, would there even be any benefit to getting a dedicated BD player over a PS3? PS3 has free Internet and has Netflix and YouTube etc. right? And we don't have (or want) a 3D TV.

IIRC, Toshiba outsourced to get in the Blu Ray game quickly, after their own HD DVD format didn't set the world on fire.

Does the PS3 have a cooling fan? Early Blu Ray players did, and the fan noise drove me nuts. Current Panasonic players offer a host of online services, don't know about Sony or the other brands.

If they could make Jeff Bridges younger for Tron Legacy, aging Ewan to Alec Guinness' age in Episode IV ought not to be a problem. It might even be possible to resurrect Alec the way Marlon Brando was brought back for Superman Returns.

...

The young Jeff Bridges looked weird in Tron Legacy.  Not bad, just not quite right.

However, after watching the work that was done with Chris Evans in Captain America, I think they could make anything work.

It worked in the context of the film and it's digital world.

If Obi Wan appears in the sequels, it's going to be a hologram or a ghost. If the CGI hasn't advanced since Tron Legacy, (which seems unlikely) that will cover up any limitations.

As Venture Bros. seemed like it was just a funny riff on Jonny Quest in the beginning, it's neat to see it develop it's own history and weirdness. Some of the character arcs have been pretty interesting. And how can I not love a show that throws out so many Star Wars references?

I wonder if David Bowie gets asked to sign stuff as "The Sovereign" these days? ;)

The wait between new seasons is pretty damn long though.

Too bad you had to see it on a plane ride! It's much better on pretty much any format, as you may imagine. But it depends more on script and characters than action and effects, so I guess that's why it wasn't totally deflated. Testament to the film, I guess.

I was tossing up watching The Thing or Dawn of the Dead, but somehow ended up watching Star Trek VI. Whenever I watch that film it's under random circumstances. Anyway, I saw it about 9 months ago and it holds up as it always does. I usually say STII is my favourite, but I suspect this is better made and better acted but I just can't get over the status of STII. I remember seeing this in the theater in 1991 and having my mind absolutely, totally blown. Remember, I was like 7, so the only movies I had seen up until then was Land Before Time and Honey I Shrunk the Kids and whatnot. I still have memories of that screening, despite how young I was. Top notch special effects--that hold up just as well today, mind you--tons of action, humour, great performances, suspence, spaceships shooting each other, even some gore, plus a breathless pace, with a political alegory that went right over my 7 year old head. Hard to ask for more for a little boy in 1991. I mean, Star Wars was long dead, and it would be another 5 or 6 years before they started making sci-fi action films again. This was as good as it got, and it still holds up as well as it did then--maybe better.

Bill Mumy, (yes, that Bill Mumy) wrote a funny and touching song about seeing the movie, that got a lot of airplay on Dr. Demento at the time. I can't find the song on youtube, so here are the lyrics...

Goodbye, Old Friends
by Bill Mumy

The credits rolled on the movie screen,
I sat there and I cried
Star Trek VI was over
And I felt so sad inside
To never boldly go again
Into another story
Oh, Spock and Kirk and Bones and all,
You sure went out in glory.

The lights came on, the crowd dispersed,
We all were energized
Everyone liked Star Trek VI
Much more than Star Trek V
The cast was great, they'd lost some weight,
And Shatner's wig was grey,
But there was some talk about old Spock
Not speaking the same way

Bones is looking very frail
Scotty's looking thick
Uhura's face is awfully tight
Sulu's hair's too slick
Chekov's lucky to have a job
The acting is sometimes scary
But how I love to see them so!
God bless Gene Roddenberry

If I only had one single dream,
I'd step in a transporter beam
And find myself forever-wise
Aboard the starship Enterprise
With a phaser at my side
And James T. Kirk for a guide
Warp Factor Nine! We'd swiftly ride!
The Klingons would attack then hide
The Final Frontier's open wide,
It fills me up with swelling pride!
Oh, wouldn't it be great...

But sadly, that is not to be,
Not for them again nor me.
Videotape and syndication,
Star Trek: The Next Generation
That's all we'll get to see from now,
Though I know it could be worse somehow

As I walked out of the movie,
Though it hurt with all my might,
I said goodbye to my dear old friends
For as of now your story ends.
Still, on this you can depend:
I'll watch you every night!
At least six features found their place
It sure beats watching Lost in Space...

Live long and prosper.... and floss daily...

Bond | Casino Royale (1954) preservation (Released)
Time

Sky Chrome Media might be able to claim a copyright on their transfer, not the show itself. (Restored video transfers of PD films have been bootlegged by unscrupulous companies before.) If EON Productions really wanted to, they could claim copyright on the character of Bond in a effort to discourage sales.

The VHS cover in the first post used the 007 gun logo, which I'm pretty sure is copyrighted.

Either EON or MGM requested the Neil Connery spoof "Operation Double 007" be retitled for the recent MST3K episode release. The title card as seen on the show wasn't changed, but the DVD packaging reflects the original film's title "Operation Kid Brother". The title card had apparently been altered by whoever owned the movie in the 90's when MST got their hands on it.

A legal claim might not hold water, but to fight it out in court is expensive.
