The first film was a trendsetter. Just about every action film since has been compared to it. "Die Hard on a ____"

They won't stop making DH sequels until McClane goes into space. (After being cryogenically frozen for 100 years.) Alan Rickman's character will be resurrected as a clone, and Reginald VelJohnson will return as a cyborg cop with a twinkie addiction. ;)
And I thought Spaceballs was the first to do the bumper sticker gag! ;)
Is that an ILM model, and if so, has that decal always been there?
It would probably be easier to hollow out an asteroid and mount the superlaser inside. But it's probably not as scary looking when it shows up to annihilate you. ;)
IIRC, someone mentioned having it several pages back. And it was fullscreen.
VCD would be on par with VHS in resolution anyway.
Harry icon for the win!
Did they use an existing game engine to make that ad? I like the last shot of Vader in the empty Jedi council chamber.
They kind of remind me of the robots in Berzerk though. :)
Kenner used the same stationery for the form letter they sent me when I wrote them suggesting several toy ideas. ;)
I recall the legal wrangling over knock off toys. Since the concept of a "laser sword" had been around in scifi for a long time, they probably could only really go after anyone misusing the character likenesses and logos. I had a glow in the dark sword circa '78 that was probably a recycle of a mold for a more earthbound blade.
Kenner used to put a little (tm) or © after every mention of a character name or phrase in the text of their catalogs and packaging.
I'm still amazed George got "droid" copyrighted.
Nobody is denying the cultural impact of Star Wars. It's just in the wake of silly petitions to have the government build a real working Death Star, who's going to take yet another fanboy petition seriously?
Disney has the keys to the Lucasfilm vault now.
You could just give voices to the super battledroids, and do the regular cannon fodder bots the same as before. ;)
There were a lot of flashlights with plastic tubes and whatnot stuck on the end in late '77. Kenner's own official product wasn't much better, except for the inflated blade.
Kids have it so good now, they don't even have to make weird buzzing noises when pretend saber fighting. ;)
Those Tardis set pics are amazing. If someone told me these were 1963 stills, I'd probably believe it! Really looking forward to seeing this.
Petitions like that only make the rest of us look bad.
And how is anyone supposed to take the petitioner seriously with that profile photo? It looks like he has LSD stickers on his face!
As I mentioned way back in the AOTR thread, "Awake" is another movie that's chock full of Hayden.

I wonder if Ewan has any good lines in the forthcoming Jack The Giant Slayer?
Older open matte films are chock full of things that were never meant to be seen. Some of the knocks against the infamous Plan 9 From Outer Space, (mike booms in shot, the cheap wooden airplane controls) are actually invisible matted or projected at 1:85.
IIRC, the later Muppet films were hard matted to avoid seeing arm sleeves below a character's waist, and the tops of performer's heads on tv and video.
The "endless bicycle chain" scene in Pee Wee's Big Adventure was used to explain matted widescreen in some 90's Laserdisc store flyers.

My favorite open matte "blooper" is the scene in Bachelor Party where a character wrapped up in bedsheets falls out a window. Two very visible stagehands are at the bottom of the screen to catch the actor.
Have you looked at samples from moviestuff's newest unit by any chance?

There's supposed to be a 16mm version in the works, but, as per usual for moviestuff, it's not going to be able to take the larger reels feature films typically come on. :(

Did this one fly under our radar? First time I've heard of it...
I recall one of those "reality" shows that apparently only lasted about five minutes on the SyFy channel last year, dealt with collectors who were running out of room in their homes.

I watched the first 15 minutes of Iron Sky last night and then went to bed.
I'm not sure I'm going to bother watching minute 16.
Some of it is stupid fun - the rest is just stupid. A fun movie about Nazis hiding on the moon becomes an awkward movie about american politics [the president is a parody of Sarah Palin]...
You've seen the best part of it.
Well that's unfortunate. It's such a great concept.
Hardly a new idea...
And there was a gut busting riff on MST3K once about Paul Anka battling Nazis on the Moon. ;)
There are two Laserdiscs of this on Ebay at the moment. As well two other DTV releases.
He definitely needs to dream about Jar Jar some more. Another "sandmare", maybe with footage from The Mummy and Dune this time?
And this ought to fit into the scheme of things...
The less cheeky version is from the trailer. ;)
Wow, it doesn't seem like Prowse was getting a fair shake from Lucasfilm. He isn't even invited as a guest to Celebration anymore these days?
IIRC, Eddie was voiced by the same actor in both radio and tv versions.
Your namesake I presume? I think one or two of the other Trade Federation leaders have lines, then there's the tall chap who talks to Obi Wan on Utapau...
I can see a studio lamp and bits of set decoration piled up in the background.
