Sadly, they used an SE shot from Star Wars. 😕

I expect better from TCM.

Well, they do show the revised THX 1138. I’d rather they not show it at all than pretend they’re showing the original version.

The editor of the piece may simply not know it’s an SE shot. To a non-fan, the new Death Star battle shots aren’t as glaringly obvious as other alterations to the movie. Some people at Lucasfilm don’t even know an SE shot when they see one now. An SE shot crept into one of the Rinzler books.
This is what happens when a director rewrites his own history.

I did not mean to post that three times. I’m so sorry, it was a huge accident!

As that often happened to Frink, it’s a nice gesture. 😉

And no, the edits are not dead. You can follow progress on ROTR over at Fanedit.org.

Keep in mind it’s in the private workprint feedback phase at the moment.

Baobab Archiver might know more details? He’s working on a Knight Rider music restoration.

I was such an avid KN watcher back then, I can’t believe I never spotted that! At least the prop guy took time to customize it a bit. And cover up the manufacturer/copyright information, even though that would have been hard to see on analog tv back then. Coincidentally, Kenner had the KN toyline.

I wonder if using a Kenner toy made it less risky, despite being a different franchise? Then again, as you said, it’d be hard to notice back then.

I’m still curious about what the gun actually did? I can’t remember there being futuristic guns in the episodes that I’ve seen, so I guess it must have played a relatively important part in the episode.

And Michael Knight wasn’t usually shown using guns on the bad guys. My money is on some sort of stun gun, which would have still mostly been a science fiction idea in the early 80’s.

JEDIT:The episode is available to watch legally online.

Double JEDIT:The pistol only appears in Part 2.

I saw a KITT replica parked at a commuter train station out here once. Even had the California Knight license plate!

Now I have a dusty memory of some other Kenner SW weapons being dressed up and used as props, but can’t recall where or when.

The 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special - a general discussion thread

All the pre-ESB Star Wars toys were copyrighted to Fox as well.

A snag might be if Lucas put a HS clause in the Disney deal. There is also the possibility of having to license the Jefferson Starship song. Disney might not want to pony up for it. That kind of thing has plagued The Muppet Show, which has yet to have all five seasons released on video.
There could also be actor residuals involved. Nobody was thinking of home video when the contracts were signed.

and here is another great site that has been around for many many years and has a lot of info and pics of OT cut scenes , His site has changed a bit over time , but he was one of the first on the web to offer a repository of cut scenes pics and info long before they were available on blu ray …http://starwarz.com/tbone/

Also one of the few fans to ever anger the flanneled one, (over reporting on a certain Episode III cameo) and get banned from the ranch so to speak.

If the prequels didn’t have the Star Wars name attached, they would be in discount bargain bins next to John Carter.

That’s a bit of an insult to John Carter, whose only crimes are the source material was pillaged by many other fantasy tales (including the prequels) over the past century, and the worst movie marketing campaign in recent memory.
