This is from Altered States (1981) an effect achieved IIRC, with front projection on a costume with reflective material in the “cracks”.
My guess is the suit’s purpose was to have interactive light effects on set.
ILM probably would have done glowing animation over this footage, similar to what they did for the aliens in Cocoon a few years later.

As I’ve said before, I’ve been on this forum a heck of a long time. Through thick and thin and some of the worst times in my life, this forum was often my refuge. Accepting the moderator gig was a way to give back to this crazy wonderful place. If people think I’m being shady or dishonest now, maybe I should retire? What good am I as a mod if I don’t have your trust?
I had just emerged from a lengthy personal crisis days before the pandemic started, and was stressed and worn out already. I’ve already planned to take a sabbatical when I can finally get my damned eye surgery. The pandemic and insurance shenanigans have played hell with that.
Something I’ll have to ponder for a while.
Something that always bothered me though, was that the (relatively civil) politics threads were an embarrassment to the site, but the creepy-ass Beautiful Women thread was a-okay.
To be honest I never liked that thread either. (I think it was a relic from when off topic was unmoderated.) Yet nobody complained about it to the mods?
Following the rules and not being abusive toward the staff isn’t that hard. People have been given second third, and even fourth chances in some cases, and they blew every one.
A well worn theatrical print won’t be anywhere near a pristine 4K scan of the negative. It will be like seeing it back in 1980 after it’s been playing for a month pr two. Kind of grindhouse. And the original mono track. But you will see little things even full frame video transfers have masked out all these years. And the Steadicam shots take on an IMAX feel.
I don’t know how this will be made available yet.

They doxxed him, (that’s hip internet lingo for digging up someone’s online personal info to use against them) and then made threatening phone calls to his house. WTF!? This is not normal behavior for mature adults, this is cyberstalking. To say that I was pissed off about this is putting it mildly. A serious line was crossed here. If it had happened to me, the authorities would have become involved. This unknown caller apparently has shown remorse for their actions, which others who still nurse old grudges could learn from.
Seems like this whole conversation in here started because Handman didn’t like being compared to this harasser. I’m sure you just mean “let’s not take this too far,” but comparing posters who’ve been around for awhile to this guy seems like a cheap shot, I seriously doubt someone like Ash would ever call someone’s phone like this. It just seems a little insulting if I’m being honest to suggest that just because he’s complaining about the mods that he’d take such a step.

I have been struggling with a mammoth post in which there was a lot of ground I wanted to cover, (between eyesight issues and oh yeah, Christmas) but in the interest of getting on to the burning question, I will have to trash that and deal with this first.
I have extensively gone through ALL of the IP’s of the alleged socks. Twice. I found ONE and only ONE match, and that IP was last accessed in June 2019. Jason hasn’t accessed that IP since March 21st of this year. (The other user in question has not logged into the forum since March 10th of this year.)
This is not unusual, as I tend to find a match or two or even three to long standing members when investigating potentially suspicious characters, and sifting through dozens, if not a hundred IP numbers. It can be pretty monotonous work. Having been a mod for nine years now, I’ve learned how to read this info. Therefore, I am satisfied that Jason DOES NOT HAVE A SOCK ARMY.
He may or may not be D.B. Cooper, but I’m still working on that.
Also, I find the recent privately made allegation that any staff member might do something nefarious with server donation member’s paypal info or user IP’s ridiculous and insulting. Anchorhead and only Anchorhead has ever been in charge of the paypal account and I trust him. What evil purpose an impossibly huge list of IP’s would do anyone I have not a clue. Google probably has more dirt on you from elsewhere than anything that could be gleaned from this site.
This conspiracy stuff has got to stop. The accusations driving helpful people organizing the forum away has to stop. It’s a rabbit hole with no bottom. It will consume you if you let it.
I fear that someone already has a conspiracy wall with pictures of Donald Sutherland on it.
Furthermore, Jason could always return as a mod if he so wished. There is no rule or policy against it. Jay is the only one who can make a user here a mod or take that power away. I’m sure he has bigger things to worry about these days like most of us do. And there was no security issue like when moth3r vanished without a trace. I miss him still.

The full size Falcon was built into the Echo Base set and it was probably difficult and costly to move so it probably made sense to re-use it for this shot. So I suppose the Cloud City landing platform and Echo Base hangar were built on the same sound stage?
IIRC, the Falcon was easily moved on hydraulic(?) pads under the landing gear. A couple stagehands could push it around. And at some point in production the hangar set had to come down and Dagobah had to be built.
They would have had to move the Falcon around a bit to create the Cloud City landing pad aet.
