Open letter to Lucas in October 1980 to release Star Wars on Home Video
Time

Awesome find! That letter could almost have been written this century. 😉

And wow, I didn’t know Sony had a prototype 8mm system that early. Lots of fascinating ancient tech in those pages. I didn’t know there were descrambler boxes with built in speakers designed to thwart VCR recording either. Diabolical!

The all black and white interior pages and simple layout remind me of the '70’s CB Radio magazines my Dad used to read.

When was the Special Edition first shown on TV?
Time

I don’t recall the originals playing on tv after 1997. And they probably had not been on tv in the U.S. for a few years prior, building up to the 20th anniversary and so as to not cannibalize sales of the One last time OOT video release. Spike Tv had the exclusive U.S. basic cable rights to the OT and the prequels from 2008-2014 and that was always the special editions.
The SE’s probably made the rounds on HBO and other pay cable networks before the Spike deal kicked in.

All the films (up to Rogue One) have been on TNT and TBS quite a lot lately. I presume they paid a hefty fee for exclusive basic cable rights.

Fantasia - Special Edition laserdisc (Released)
Time

Hopefully this month. I’ve been dealing with health issues, and we’re getting one storm after another out here in California. The last one caused some blackouts, which finally killed the battery on my UPS/surge protector for my vintage gear. I need to replace that or move stuff around and hook things up elsewhere.
The replacement batteries are so pricey, it’s actually cheaper just to buy a new unit.

Most Baffling Complaint of a Star Wars Movie
Time

Saw discussion elsewhere about Episode IX that inevitably turned into another TLJ bitchfest, but this comment caught my eye…

I collect Star Wars Sideshow and Hot Toys figures and regret the three that I bought from the Sequel Trilogy. If I knew TLJ was going to be so bad I never would have bought them. Hopefully Abrams can salvage the trilogy with Episode IX.

Don’t blame your spending money on super expensive action figures on the movies! Sheesh!
