There were many stories of people arranging to get May 25th 1983 off well in advance.

Looks like they finally solved the old issue of where does the X-Wing stepladder go when they land in the middle of nowhere? ;)
Hasn't the EU been chock full of them?
Marvel sort of beat George to the punch though.
It's a teaseler.
*runs off to copyright the term before Disney does*
We could all get together for pizza here?

Before people start really flying off the handle, try thinking in universe for a moment. Design flaws aside, the Death Star is an effective weapon for scaring planets into submission. And flaws can be fixed.
The know how to make one doesn't magically go away. It's like a nuclear weapon, once the genie is out of the bottle, somebody sooner or later is going to want to build one.
And how do we know this one belongs to the Empire? They aren't the only ones with a copy of the original technical readouts. ;)
Also what is up with Leia's hair? I'm getting a Mom from Futurama vibe here.

You bring this up all the time. It's there because it looks impressive (Both within the film's logic and from a moviegoing perspective). This is a real-life building in China...
^ That inside space could have been used to fit in more offices (Or cellblocks and garbage-mashers) but for some reason they left it empty? Maybe the architect designed it in the hope that somebody would use it for the same purpose that Vader did ;-)
It has long been a concept in Science Fiction, (and those who think about the real life implications of living in space) that you need such large open areas for air circulation, heat dissipation, and so people don't go crazy from living in small enclosed spaces for long periods of time.
Awesome customization of a vintage Trek pinball machine.

Funny Luke's death in Battlefront :D
The graphics in these games are getting so good, fan editors might be able to use them to create new shots.
Wow, and only off by four years!
Thanks for the link! I've never read the script before. Wonder if that scene was actually shot?
Edible rubber? George definitely saw into the not too distant future. ;)
And a reminder to those who didn't see it already.

I hope it does not come down to this for anyone!
"ST.PAUL, Minn. Aug. 25, 1979 (AP) -- The parents of a 15-year-old boy who jumped 200 feet to his death from a bridge after Battlestar Galactica was canceled say the boy's whole life was wrapped up in the television space show.
"I hope we never ever see it on TV again, because it would just crush us," Dawn Seidel, the boy's stepmother, said Saturday."
I doubt it. At least I hope so. It's a lot easier for someone to reach out for help than in the 70's. It was not a great era for people acknowledging that their kid had a serious problem and not simply "growing pains".
We'll probably never know what else was going on in that kid's family at the time. "Television made them do it" was an easy accusation to make in the press, overlooking the deeper more complex issues involved.
Try saying the title of this thread three times fast. ;)
The "food" in the white void sequence looks an awful lot like this delicacy from my childhood...

But I don't know if they were on the market before 1972.
Nice!
Rock the vote everyone! Omm is counting on you!

Is this a deleted scene? ;)
This was posted over at the Home Theater Forum. It's a Warner Archive survey for future Blu Ray releases, with a write in option! You can only vote for three titles, or two plus the write in vote.

Granted, it's a long shot, but it's a way to at least let them know there's an interest in the 1971 original theatrical cut. So, pick two movies from the list and write in vote for THX. And be specific about which version. ;)

I think I'm going to pull a Jack Torrance and imagine myself in a fully-stocked bar right now.
Save a seat for me. And be sure to ask for Lloyd.

You are such a downer.
Are you going to see the movie or not?
And I thought the SE changes were questionable...

Corporate art does not apply in this case. I don't need to see the film to know it won't be good, because TFA is not an artistic vision, it was designed as a product to make money for a corporation that already has too much money. Even the PT, misguided as it was, could be considered an artistic vision, albeit a terrible one.
Because Lucas never made a buck off of slapping Star Wars on everything in sight.

Can't you wait until the movie is actually out before unleashing the gloom and doom?

Just to show questionable merchandise isn't all about Jar Jar...
