Here’s a good reason to avoid California: earthquakes.

There are quake faults all over the country and the world. Washington DC got hit by one a few years back, and the Washington Monument had to close for repairs.
And then there’s this:

And goodness knows what Irwin Allen wet dream all the byproducts of fracking activity might unleash eventually.

Another California myth people seem to buy into is the entire state would somehow fall into the ocean when the big one hits. And this was before the silly disaster movies of recent vintage.

Yes, I remember the one that damaged the Washington Monument. It was felt in my area. I posted about it on the forum the day it happened.

Maybe it is a myth that the entire state would fall into the ocean, but I don’t think it is myth that scientists fear “the big one” might hit California sometime soon.

Which is why new structures have to meet strict standards out here, and older ones have to be retrofitted. The 1994 Northridge Quake gave scientists a lot of new data on how certain structures fail.

The fact that this forum was seemingly made to get the Out
re released on a decent format reaffirms for me that there will only ever be 3, true star wars films. The rest are ‘cover’ versions.

that all the other films never happened.

If only this was true. I think any classic film(s) should be protected. I’d hate to see another Godfather for example. I’m dreading Blade Runner 2!

“Protected” from sequels? Ehhhh…I will argue that films should be preserved, regardless of quality. Ex., the prequels’ original cuts, hell I’d even defend shit like the Super Mario Bros Movie (which I’m still waiting for a region-free bluray of).

However, sequels/remakes should be fair game. It’s up to the filmmakers whether it’s good or not, if it is, well no complaints here. If it’s bad…just let it fade out of existence like most shit films. For instance, the Ghostbusters reboot. If all that hate boner-ism wasn’t built up around it, it would’ve came and gone, the only impression left being Ecto Cooler and an awful Rotten Tomatoes score. Oh wait, that’s already happening. So much for all that time, energy, and vitriol all it’s detractors poured into it.

So remaking Psycho, shot for shot is okay? Copies of masterpiece paintings are called fakes! Is film not art?

Is remaking The Maltese Falcon okay? 😉

People get funny ideas about California. That all of it is like Los Angeles. It’s not. That it’s warm and sunny all the time. We’ve suffered through a long miserably cold and wet winter after years of drought. (The last storm that blew through threatened to break my sliding glass door, and tore up my patio.) But at least I never have to shovel snow, or see it up close. The last winter I spent on the East coast put me off snow for good.

And in spite of being a “blue” state, you’ll easily find people on the red side of things. I’m smack in the middle of what was called Reagan country. He was once our governor you know!

I lived in a lot other places when I was kid, but this is my home. Some kids would treat me differently upon learning I had lived out here, don’t know why they had a negative impression of the state. Only other place I’d rather live is Florida, land of my birth, but I’d just be trading earthquakes and brush fires for hurricanes and sinkholes. 😉

Do Wookiees seek revenge? (Excepting the Wooks gone bad in the EU past and present.) That’s a good question. Chewie would look nasty just killing Kylo in cold blood. I can’t see him doing it unless Kylo is about to kill someone, and it’s the only way to save them.

It’s equally possible Kylo turns away from the dark side long enough to do something good, but dies in the process. Like Grandfather, like Grandson. Think about it, won’t you? 😉

All this talk makes me wonder why J.J. funded a remastering of PHANTASM but not STAR WARS '77. Then again, I suppose they were already in the process of the 4k scans by the time he was in talks to direct TFA.

Phantasm isn’t owned by a huge company though.

It was a personal project- much like Moroder’s Metropolis 30+ years ago. Star Wars is a huge seller- it shouldn’t need to be a personal project.

And both of those have shiny Blu Ray editions. Personal project or no, J.J. wasn’t dealing with a film that might be caught between two powerful entities, Fox and Disney.
