Also worth noting: VHS lets you fall asleep to a movie without waking you up with loud menus.
As does Laserdisc. 😉

I’m ok with him going to the con- as long as he isn’t in The Last Jedi.He is in it.
As long as he acts good in it, I’m fine with that. I’ll still be able to separate the sequel trilogy from the prequels. Not a big deal to me.
He is a good actor. His performance in Shattered Glass was excellent. He also was pretty good as a troubled teen in Life As A House, filmed between AOTC and ROTS. He almost looks like a Goth Sith in the first half though.
Pretty simple really.
Good. We can finally discuss why discarded ideas got discarded. That will be a hard argument for you to win.
It wasn’t discarded. It appeared in Splinter of The Mind’s Eye, which was almost the Star Wars sequel.
Yeah, I wouldn’t mind being brainwashed by her. 😉
Showing him his grandfather slaughtering little kids seem counterproductive to me. 😉
The spotlight really ought to be on the original film this year. Even TPM isn’t quite 20 years old yet.
Things were a lot simpler back in '87. 😉
It could be a hologram you know.
I don’t see how they duck the issue really. Any explanation they come up with short of Fox being a problem is going to sound pretty weak.
I guess they’re pushing the 40th anniversary of Star Wars in general, not the specific film turning 40 this month.
Hayden’s career turned towards films that tend to go direct to video, (and I’ve seen 90% of them helping Frink find material for his edit) so if he still has nice things to say about working on the prequels, more power to him!
And no Ralph Brown? 😦
What a dick.
Wait, so Pablo was the lizard baby in V: The Final Battle? 😉
Wow, good eye.
I found that scene exquisitely, euphorically horrifying as a kid.Me too. And then I saw it again a few years ago and I just about died laughing about how stupid it looks.
There was the shock value going for it in that happy go lucky internet spoiler free era. As cheesy as The Final Battle and the weekly series got, I’ll take it over the 2009 reboot. 😉
Lots of pics of the lizard baby here, including details we mercifully didn’t see on screen back in '84. 😉

The original miniseries has a Star Wars reference.

I found that scene exquisitely, euphorically horrifying as a kid.Is that the birth where there were twins - a baby lizard with a human tongue, and then a human baby with a lizard tongue?
Loved the V stuff - though sketchy in detail now years later - think they did something ‘meh’ with a starchild (with magic powers of course! 😃)?
Here’s the whole sequence if you want to relive the heartwarming scene. 😉

The “human” baby is the one they pulled the starchild Deus Ex Machina with. Poor little baby Gorn didn’t live long. 😦
The lizard baby really got around back in the 80’s.

What a dick.

Yeah, but if the EMP destroys civilization as we know it, those prints might deteriorate long before we recover.
Guess you’ve never seen Ralph Bakshi’s Wizards. 😉
They make backup 35mm prints of digital masters just in case, don’t they? 😉
Let’s just keep a watch on it for now. If it gets heated, then we’ll move the discussion.
It helps to have a hobby if you’re immortal. 😉

Thanks for the link! Fascinating glimpse into George’s thought processes at the time.
And I like the Wookiee gets the girl angle. 😉
Discussion of it could get political though.
That seems better suited to the politics thread to be honest.
Of course, not all Russians are rotten apples. All those people protesting government corruption there recently, (probably at great risk to themselves) is proof.
There’s just decades of nefarious activities by the Russian government to deal with. They’ve been pulling sneaky stuff since the end of WWII.

It is a shame nobody is doing 2D anymore outside of tv.
Aww, c’m—!
We’re standin’ right here! You know, right under the Sun as it rises in the East? A little hard to miss!!!–Japan
Even if Japan is still making 2D animated films, they get little exposure here in the states. Animation is still considered family fare here. Sad we will never see anything like Heavy Metal again.
And only people unaware of the forthcoming digital transition would buy one. It doesn’t get Lucas off the hook for offering up a technically inferior product using then 13 year old video masters and calling it a day.
It is sad CRT’s seem to be no longer manufactured. Seeing a Ms. Pac Man machine with a 16:9 LCD grafted into the cabinet just looks wrong. I saw one of those once uber expensive Sony HDTV CRT’s just put out on the curb with the trash a couple years back. Always thought those were cool, even if they weighed more than a subcompact car. 😉
Has an actual script for Splinter ever turned up? Or did it not get further than whatever George gave Alan Dean Foster to work with?
Some alleged leaked footage has appeared on Youtube, but the fact Disney hasn’t squashed it yet, makes me doubt it’s authenticity.

“Younglings”
*dies laughing
I’ve always called them “deadlings”. That heartwarming training scene in AOTC with Yoda was ruined by my realization all those kids were going to be dead meat in the next movie. Thanks George! 😉
