I simply can’t imagine browsing the forums on anything with such a tiny screen. 😉

Why do aliens in the 24th century have to travel back in time to a different planet just to eat?
huh?
The aliens in TNG Time’s Arrow who dine out in 19th century San Francisco.
Tv shows are still being shot on tape, only now in HD. Some 70’s sitcoms shot on tape look really bad now for some reason, especially Norman Lear productions. Maybe the video masters on those need restoration?
On the flip side the first two seasons of Saturday Night Live look great for their age. I’ve only seen one video glitch so far, and I’m not sure it would even have been visible on a CRT. You can tell NBC didn’t allocate their best cameras to the show early on though. It’s a shame they didn’t remaster the film inserts because the telecine they had at the time was pretty awful. (I could get better results shooting a projector aimed at a blank wall.) Whether that footage still exists is anyone’s guess.
It’s a shame a lot of Universal’s 60’s/70’s tv output shot on 35mm hasn’t been remastered. Some of what I see airing on Cozi TV are from really old broadcast video masters.
I’d like to see KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER remastered for a Blu-ray release.
Oh yes! And the tv movies.
Try to imagine this being sung by Bill Murray. (Or not.)
It’s the Han Solo movie! You knew they were gonna’ make one!
See how Han met Chewie…And Chewie will rip some guy’s arm off.
He really hates losing…at that crazy 3D chess game.
'Cause it’s the Han Solo movie!
Watch Lando lose the Falcon…because he really sucks at Sabbac!
And Jabba will hire Han…to smuggle some drugs…I mean spice!
And somebody will make a Kessel Run…I don’t need to tell you who!
'Cause it’s the Han Solo movie!
Directed by some guys and Opie!
You know you’re gonna’ see it…even though you told everyone you’re not!

NASCAR fans are really confused.

I don’t quite get how high definition is an alteration but okay. What, do they think the original films were shot on vhs or something? That’s a common misconception that bugs the crap out of me with ignorant people, that hi def is a new thing. Sure it’s new for HOME MEDIA but films have always been made at a high resolution, or whatever the analog term for that would be.
I have never seen this misconception except in the case of Star Wars. It’s baffling that it keeps being repeated.
There is a belief that “old” movies aren’t HD or won’t look good in HD. It’s not just Star Wars. Not sure where it comes from. The people citing it specifically about the OT are just grasping for straws at this point.
They did exist for broadcast and industrial use, but ill suited for taping movies off HBO. Not sure about the Pioneer editing system I saw in a trade magazine back in the day, but the other recordable videodisc formats wouldn’t have been compatible with LD.

You’re talking about the same crowd that chose VHS over Betamax, and when shown Laserdisc said, Nice, but it doesn’t record. 😛
Another new article:
Nice find. Linking to that on the OT twitter.
They’ve been under the national refrigerator for quite some time. It took you know who to make them crawl out and feel safe with the lights on.
There was a documentary I came across in the video store once back in the 80’s about modern Nazis in America. I never actually rented it, but an image on the back of a seemingly normal looking housewife putting the finishing touches on a red swastika cake was pretty disturbing.
JEDIT:Apparently it was this 1975 documentary about modern Nazis in California. Yikes.

Was watching Saturn 3 tonight, and a bit of set decor looked kind of familiar!

The question is, was this some sort of funky futuristic 70’s European furniture used for both films?
The venn diagram of people upset that Criterion is releasing The Breakfast Club and people that have forgotten they once made a DVD of Michael Bay’s Armageddon is a circle.
Are they somehow being forced to buy it?
IIRC, there was a simliar uproar when Armageddon and The Rock both got lavish Criterion Laserdisc editions. Some things never change. 😉
Disney should get the South Park guys to write songs for their next animated movie then. 😛
Profanity in Trek has always been around, but used to make a point. When Kirk says Let’s get the hell out of here at the end of City on the Edge of Forever, it emphasizes the pain straightening out the timeline has caused him. And you generally couldn’t say hell on network tv in the '60’s. Roddenberry and company allegedly butted heads with NBC standards and practices to keep that line intact.
In the movies, it was funny and in character when McCoy called Spock an green blooded SOB. Kirk’s reaction to David’s death in TSFS equally in character. Scotty saying Klingon Bitch in TUC seemed undignified.
TVH gave the impression humanity had left a lot of casual swearing behind.
Data cursing in Generations can be construed as getting a cheap laugh or the character trying to be more human. I’m still amazed TNG got away with Picard uttering merde on tv.
Dropping an F bomb in Trek doesn’t seem to have any good reason behind it.
Just as a test, here’s the beginning of the sail barge sequence with flipped shots put back:
https://vimeo.com/238829311
It’s more jarring than the original, without a doubt. Although, I do like that Mark Hamill’s face is flipped back to normal now. I think that’s the main giveaway. Can’t say I found any issue with those shots flipped back, I followed along fine with where the barge was heading and the other ships location to it.

I quite agree. The viewer can follow the action just fine, and quite frankly I’m seriously struggling to see why it was flipped in the first place, as IMHO this version is infinitely superior. The only possible quibble from pedants I can see is that when they finally arrive at the Sarlacc the skiffs are now on the barge’s left side instead of the right, but since they’re all flying vehicles with vast space around them on all sides, and we don’t witness the entire trip, surely it’s not beyond the wit of the viewer to assume the skiff moved to the other side at some point before the journey’s end? Donald Trump might struggle to understand it, but regular humans with at least double-digit IQs won’t. I didn’t watch that clip and think, ‘My God! The skiff’s teleported!’
Please keep politics out of this discussion. Thank you.
Thanks guys, human civilization was ok while it lasted…

Was that private conference with those Russians before or after the White House refurb? 😉
Many thanks, Handman!

REBMEM! REBMEM!
I wouldn’t discount the possibility that a third party might have recorded it.
That sig does look great…but in my opinion, it’s a bad idea. We’ve obviously struggled with people not knowing who the moderators are. The moderator signature is a good step forward, however a lot of people tend to glaze over signatures. Allowing non-moderators to have very similar signatures strikes me as a step backward as it may just lead to further confusion.
It’s a temporary thing until Jay can code something up that only mods will have displayed beside their names.
Ok, just making sure.

Wow, never realized it was an alternate take.
