RidiculouSolo: A Star Wars Story
Time

The lengthy post A long time ago… title cards turn into a Monty Python and The Holy Grail type situation poking fun at the multiple sackings behind the scenes. Mind you, Gundark bites can be pretty nasti…
Or cross out Lord and Miller’s names at the end and fade in Ron Howard’s.

Background music for the Han signing up with the Empire.

Look at my avatar. That Sinead O’Conner stunt was considered one of the most offensive things broadcast on television. It pretty much ruined her career. Now, this is a totally different example because her statement was altruistic and very important, but the consequences were the same. I’d rather the stupid people get some leniency so that we don’t have to walk on eggshells all the time instead of getting outraged at everybody. It also doesn’t help that social media exists purely to broadcast stupidity to the world, but that’s a different topic.

The current Pope ought to give her a shout out or something.

Well, you can’t find reruns of The Cosby Show on tv anymore either. And it was pulled long before the current court case ended.

Gilbert Gottfried got fired from doing the Aflac duck commercials for making a stupid tweet after that tsuamni hit Japan. In spite of the dubious contest to find a new voice actor, the current voice still sounds like him. Everyone else you mentioned said things before social media instantly broadcasted brain farts around the globe at the speed of light.

‘‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Writer Reveals Why Tag and Bink Scene Was Cut’…

http://comicbook.com/starwars/2018/05/26/solo-a-star-wars-story-deleted-scene-tag-and-bink/

(with direct quotes from Jonathan Kasdan)

I did want to see them, but would have been left wondering how they end up in the Rebellion. Based on their apparent age in the comics, they would have been a bit young to be in the Empire. This is complicated by the prequel comic where they were padawans enlisted by Anakin to convey messages to Padme and the worst students Yoda ever had.

They really should have been in the end of Rogue One though. 😉

Most Baffling Complaint of a Star Wars Movie
Time

That’s still a hell of coinkydink when there’s a ton of bounty hunter scum around. Jango subcontracts out his hits anyway, so why even risk your template being seen on Coruscant when you need new genetic material from them every so often? I presume that’s why he has an apartment on Kamino, because there’s no other reason to have a residence there unless it’s to keep Boba out of harm’s way. Take your clone kid to work day didn’t work out too well later in the movie.
And I’ve gone cross eyed trying to figure out Palpatine’s secret plot again. 😛

The death of every crew member was touching in it’s own way - especially Rios and L3’s death were heart breaking.

I didn’t find that touching. I was even glad that SJW L3 got killed… (and her death scene is ridiculous… it’s just a droid, just retrieve the memory card and put that elsewhere… AND NOT AS THE FALCON AI IF POSSIBLE GUYS !!! Stop ruining the OT, just make movies slightly related but stop making retcon that just don’t work and are lame).

So! You were the one who laughed when Artoo got fried! 😛

I liked that the Empire was mostly background in this. I was sure we were going to get a gratuitous cameo of some sort on the bridge of that Star Destroyer that turned up. In the Brian Daley books, Han and Chewie were pretty far away from the Empire in the Corporate Sector.

And the whole black hole/space monster sequence will probably give me spooky dreams for a while.

The IMAX place here just reopened after months of renovation. Should I see Solo there, or not worth it?

Meh. I saw it on a small screen and it didn’t seem like I missed out on much.

There were no scenes shot in IMAX that I noticed. If you don’t have to go too far out of your way to get there it’s a fine way to see it. I don’t think the sound system at my local IMAX is up to snuff as it was the when I saw the first Abrams Trek movie there. Almost like they’ve dialed back the subwoofers.

Really blows there were no IMAX film prints made this time. I worry they aren’t going to bother for Episode IX now. 😕

Is the omnibus an all new edit or a remastering? I seem to recall there being one before. My local PBS station would run an entire story in one afternoon when I was a kid.

And thanks for the heads up! Hopefully this won’t be scuttled for a technical snafu like the screening of the animated Power Of The Daleks I attended.

Now I REALLY wanna own a LaserDisc player.

Is that the demo where Nimoy talks to a glowing rock? I guess he became an LD fan as a result.

I get a little pissed when I see youtube recommendations for videos about how Laserdisc was a failure. The format had a 22 year run, (CED and HD-DVD were like Mayflies by comparison) and pioneered just about everything we take for granted in optical disc formats today, thank you very much!

Wait, you guys REALLY liked the droid? Am I the only one who was glad when she was finally destroyed?

(L3 is the best SW character since Jar Jar Binks)

I’ll go so far as to say she’s even more insufferable than Jar Jar Binks.
At least it was clear Jar Jar was intended to be an obnoxious tool.

Thankfully she wasn’t in it long, and I liked 90% of the rest of the film.

Where has George ever said that was the intent for the character?

I more meant the intent was to make Jar Jar an obnoxious clown, because George thought he’d be funny.

The execution was off but I don’t think it’s too up for debate that Jar Jar was never meant to be a Representative in the Senat- Oh wait 😉

Lucas thought these guys would be hilarious too. They’re almost a dry run for Mr. Binks.
