Star Wars Trilogy - Original Theatrical Versions: 2006 DVD Flaw List
Time
On the grain issue, I just figured the grain was part of the film, but for the LD releases, they may have added a blur to the image so that the grain was less apparent. The DVDs would have been sourced from a master prior to the addition of this blur. Of course, I'm just theorizing. I have no evidence or anything. Just kinda looks that way from my experiences with adding a gaussian blur to scans and images in Photoshop.

Lucas on Colbert

One guy was original and used a "Noooooo!" scream from Colbert from an earlier episode, but didn't request that he do a whole new set of lines like Lucas did.
What extra lines did they add? I noticed his entry included more lines than were in the actual clip people were supposed to use, but the whole Jar Jar bit was taken from the original episode during a later portion when Colbert pretended he was talking to Jar Jar while introducing the Mayor or whatever of the district they were doing the segment on.

Come on, guys. It was all in good fun. Hell, Jar Jar's only in the thing because Colbert mentioned him in the original segment.

There's no reason to get so bent out of shape over a character whose limelight ended nearly 8 years ago.

I'm sure there are people who love Jar Jar. They were all probably toddlers when they saw Episode I though. He was like the new Barney without trying to shove preschool lessons down their throats.

Idea: an X 3 edit...
Time
A little off topic, but believe it or not, my on/off project for a while has been the first X-Men movie. I tried to remove clunky lines, stupid moments, and bad special effects shots while also adding some of the deleted scenes into the film. But then it always ends up with me deleting all the files from my HD because I figure it's not worth the effort.

X3's a flawed movie. It's a frustrating experience knowing the potential it had. The first film, like most of first entries in the comic book movie genre seems a little clunky at times. It's a bit dull, the fight scenes are badly choreographed, and it's low on action, but it's a pretty good movie. X2, I felt, blew it away. So I was really disappointed when they decided to go this route with X3. Singer abandoned it, or at least was unavailable for the date Fox wanted so we got stuck with a bland director, a standard by-the-numbers script, and ultimately a disappointing movie. I think i'll have to watch the movie again before I can really comment on the changes that should be made, but I really think it mostly lies with the script, and the portrayal of the characters. The film needed a good rewrite and God knows Fox wouldn't allow that if it meant delaying the shoot a bit. I think Singer was the main driving force behind the first two films. Fox didn't understand the property, heck it even seems like they loathed it. But they knew they could make money off of it and that's what they did. It's a shame, really.

Seeing all the potential that was missed, I actually wouldn't mind seeing a reboot a few years or decades down the line.

It looks like the one in the Costco set is the same as the original release, which is just a little annoying since I think X-Men 1.5 had more featurettes.

So is there actually a 2 disc set of X-Men 2 out as well? This crap gets more and more annoying.
I believe the version of X-Men in the set is the original version (which included deleted scenes, the "Mutant Watch" tv special, Bryan Singer on the Charlie Rose show, galleries, animatics, and some other stuff). X-Men 1.5 is a two disc set which features DTS sound, branching behind the scenes vignettes & deleted scenes during the movie, commentary, a few hours worth of documentaries, and other goodies.

And yes, X2 was originally released as a 2-Disc Special Edition. That was before Fox started playing their little games. It might still be available, but I usually just see the single disc re-release floating around these days (which I assume is just disc one of that set).

A word of wisdom for anyone that cares about special features: if the initial release of a blockbuster movie isn't a 2-disc set or isn't loaded to the gills with extras, you can bet there's a special edition coming out in a few months. These days, a commentary and deleted scenes is considered a bit light.

I've given this a lot of thought, and I've decided this makes no sense. (Qui-Gon and Anakin's ghosts.)

Of course Anakin knows how to become one with the Force. He was conceived by the Force. He's the friggin' ONE. If the ONE wouldn't know how to become one with the Force, I don't see how someone else could.

Or maybe he quieted his mind before he died and some midichlorians told him. I'm sure it's something like that.

Interesting tidbit about who shot first

Greedo saying that Han was going to soon be dead and that he was looking forward to "this" for a long time? Then a big white explosion obscurring who was able to fire his blaster first?

Plenty of tension for me.

Though I will admit that the SE kind of removes all of the fun from that scene somehow . . . like an annoying headache.
There's certainly something going on in the scene when we cut to Han, but in terms of Greedo, there's nothing happening. Sure, his dialogue mentions he's about to do something to Han, but not for a moment does it actually look like he's gonna pull the trigger. He's just waving a blaster around like an idiot, talking big, and looking like he's got no intention to use the thing. Then Han kills him.

Personally, I have no problem with the way the scene played out in the original version. According to Lucas though, he only added Greedo shooting because he assessed the scene the same way I did. Greedo had no clue what was going on. The dialogue indicates that he does, but that could've been dubbed in or rewritten later. He's just a sitting duck. If Han shoots him, fine. My point was that if Lucas really did want to show that Greedo knew what was happening, he could've saved the trouble of adding silly laser effects and digitally shifting Harrison Ford by cutting in a quick shot of Greedo about to pull the trigger.

Yay! Thank you! I went all this time waiting to watch the movie at home on DVD....any now you ruined it. Thanks again....
I apologize, though I'll fault you for entering a discussion on how to edit a movie you didn't want to know anything about.

But in all honesty, it's not much of a spoiler. It has no bearing on the plot whatsoever. Cyclops is in the movie so little, he's basically dead to begin with! Personally, I saw X-Men 3 knowing basically nothing and I could already tell Cyclops wasn't going to be in more than 3 minutes.

I think instead of all this shooting at one another, Lucas could've just clarified his intentions by cutting in a quick insert shot of Greedo raising his blaster or about to squeeze the trigger. Just something. The scene just feels fairly devoid of tension. How the heck is Han NOT supposed to come off as a cold blooded killer if Greedo just waves around a blaster throughout the scene? Despite his dialogue, he just doesn't LOOK like he's about to shoot anyone.

For Those who bought the Sept. 12th Release, Thoughts so far?

Regardless of how one feels about ROTJ, I don't think this is a valid "configuration". ESB does not have a proper ending (by design). It's the only one of the three that has a cliff-hanger ending like the old serials that GL cites as inspiration. No doubt, Star Wars is a true standalone (because GL had no idea if he'd get a chance to continue the story), but Empire must be followed up by another film.

There is another configuration you didn't mention:
The Prequel Trilogy (all by itself)
Those films are so different from the One True SW Trilogy that as far as I'm concerned they can stand by themselves.
The whole bit was just me musing about it. Not particularly well thought out though. The SW + ESB thing just represents the purest vision of Star Wars to me. It's not really complete, but I started to see the original trilogy in phases in terms of creativity. With each film, the story of the saga (or what it had intended to be) changed and so these configurations more or less describe different phases in Lucas' vision of the saga.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 <strong>REVISITED</strong> ADYWAN *<em>1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION</em>
Time
If you ever wanted to implement the idea, you can use some footage from Batman & Robin of Arnold getting all weepy infront of home movies in his ice fortress in a possible future edit of ESB. Just color correct Arnold from blue to pale white, add scars, replace the monitor images, and you can make it seem like Vader made a makeshift suite in the Rebel base on Hoth!

Just kidding by the way.
