I wonder how many silly kids are waiting for Episode IV to be released?

Technically, that DIDN'T happen. Nothing was added to Let It Be. The Original Phil Spector produced version of Let It Be was NOT what the Beatles had originally intended. I'm a bigger Beatles fan than I have ever been a Star Wars fan, and I can tell you without a doubt, that Let It Be (originally titled "Get Back") was intended to be the Beatles getting back to basics. Four guys live in the studio with no overdubs. The ONLY addition was Billy Preston adding the occasional Organ part, but again LIVE in the studio. Let It Be... Naked was the original intention.

Using Let It Be as the analogy is incorrect, because it is the EXACT opposite of what Lucas has done. He didn't remove things that weren't supposed to be there originally, He added things that were never there. In addition, The Beatles NEVER said that the 1970 album didn't exist after released LIBN. Lucas has refused to acknowledge the OOT ever since the release of the SE in 1997.

I appreciate the fact that you tried to use my analogy to make your point, but you were a bit mistaken.

Mario,

You are consistantly missing the point. You keeps saying that the PT and the new version of the OT are Lucas' original vision, and what he intended all along.

Just about everybody here has been proving you wrong. Lucas' original vision of the back story is what is shown in the rough drafts of the screenplay. If you'd actually take the time to take your face away from GL's crotch and/or ass & download the early drafts, you'd see just how full of shit Lucas is now.

When you finally do that, you'll see through the bullshit and then you WILL get the point.

Let me put it another way:

How would you (or anybody else here) feel if Paul McCartney & Ringo Starr went back into the studio and made changes to Sgt. Pepper, and then claimed it that the changes finally made the album the way they had originally wanted it to be in 1967?

I'll bet your wrong.

Mario, I really want you to do me a favor. I want you to search for, download & read the early drafts of the Script for Star Wars. After you read those, what the PT, and you tell me then that you really believe that GL had the story all planned back when he filmed SW.

So far, you & adam are tied for the first monthly Rick McCallum Award. But, there is still hope for the both of you. Read those rough drafts, and renounce the propagaqnda that GL has foisted upon you. You ARE allowed to think for yourself, and not let Lucas tell you what to like, and hope to think & feel about a franchise that has become more popular & successful than its creator ever hoped or dreamed it come be.

Come back to light. I beg you.

Does the quote, "If I had time and a hammer, I'd track down every bootleg copy and smash it..." - George Lucas
mean ANYTHING to you? GL completely disavows the Holiday Special's existance. There's a good reason for that. IT'S HORRIBLE.
You're dreaming if you think that piece of shit will EVER be released officially.

OK. You are a kid born after 1983. Somehow you were living under a rock and never heard of the "internet" or "Star Wars". 1999 rolls around and you watch this cool movie called Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace. "Hmm, that was pretty cool." Three years later a sequel comes out. "Even better! I can't wait for part 3!" Then you watch it and love it. "WOW! When are they gonna make a sequel to this one! That was the best one yet! I can't wait to see what happens to those babies and Anakin! What's his name now, um Darth Tater or something? Oh yeah Darth Vader. I bet in 2008 they will probably make an episode IV! That would be awesome!"

Then he's at wal-mart. A box set of episodes IV-VI! "Woah! That was fast! Man I didn't think one more would be made this fast! They made three more and they were all direct to video? That sucks! Oh well, I'll buy it anyway. I gotta see what happens next!!"

Think about it! I bet there is at least ONE person in the world that thinks like this. And with the quality of the DVD releases I can actually believe that they were filmed post-2005. As it should seem.

Insanity... PURE insanity in it's most blatent form.

When I watch the movies now (in order) I like to pretend that 4, 5, 6 were actually filmed AFTER 1, 2 and 3. With the official DVD's that is easy to do. I think that is the intention. I was born in 1976. The originals were cool back then. It wasn't until I had my eyes opened by the WAY BETTER 1997 special editions and the SWEET DVD versions that the originals became inferior. Just like on the Beauty and the Beast DVD, where they have the workprint version of the film. It's cool to have, but that shouldn't be the version you actually WATCH, other than to compare it or show it to someone that's never seen it that way.

Being born in 1976 makes you too young to understand how much better the films were as they were ORIGINALLY RELEASED. In addition, your willingness to believe every last bit of bullshit & propaganda that GL has been spewing since 1997 show me that you are not to be taken seriously.

You're almost laughable, and I truly feel sorry for you & your inability to see through the smokescreen.

Nothing personal, but it's "fans" like you that keep giving GL license to "improve" the OT. Adamwan, You seem like a nice guy, but after reading your posts here and on the "what changes would you like to see on the 2007..." thread, I feel that you fit into the same catagory. I respect the fact that you both have the right to your own opinion, but it's clear to me that you have no appreciation for film as an artform. Even with it's MANY flaws originally (and there are SEVERAL) ROTJ was still (story-wise, anyway) a perfect end to the saga, and SW & TESB were perfect as they WERE. Now it's just crap. That's why on the few occasions I actually watch the films, I will ALWAYS go with a bootleg set of the films (Usually the Edit Droid collection) before even thinking about pulling the 2004 box off the shelf.

And with all due respect to our fearless leader Jay, I agree with part of what you said. 4, 5, 6 IS great storytelling. 1,2,3 is so full of holes that everything suffers, and changig the OT just compounds that error.

it should have been the same dude from RotJ all along.

If you REALLY want to get technical, it should have been the uncredited Old lady with the Monkey eyes superimposed over her own, & Clive Reville doing the voice all along, seeing as how THEY were the Emperor in TESB.

Also, regarding something mentioned in a much earlier post. Nobody has disputed the fact that from the time we first see C-3P0 in ANH until the latest book in the EU that he's never had a memory wipe. Memory wipes were VERY common practice in droid maintenance. R2 & 3P0 were exceptions to that rule because they never had memory wipes from ANH on. But, it's more than obvious to me (and hopefully others) that 3P0 DID have at least 1 memory wipe in between ROTS & ANH.

Sorry for all the posts. I just keep forgetting more & more stuff that I want to say.

How about digitally painting over Sebastian Shaw's eyebrows so they'd match the burned face that Hayden had even when Revenge of the Sith had yet to be released? Want another one? I got one. Changing Ben's noise to scare away the sandpeople to match that horribly annoying lizard creature he rides in Revenge of the Sith. When I first saw ROTS and realized that it was the same noise I'd noticed had been changed several months earlier, I wanted to strangle somebody.

DAMN! I forgot about those. The senate building is at the end of ROTJ too, along with Naboo (and Jar Jar as the gungan shouting out "Wesa freeeeeeeee!!")

MORE reasons the hate GL

Keep those cards & letters coming in folks.

Honestly, what was REALLY changed in the OT only to match with the PT? All I can say is Hayden Christensen and Boba Fett's voice. Nothing else. It wasn't possible to have those two things back when the movies were made, so obviously they had to be added, and IMO the movies as a whole saga (the only way they should ever be watched) are better for it.

Everything else was only changed to better the effects/ restore to his original vision. This would have been done (and was) even if there never were any prequels.

I challenge people to find other examples than the two I listed above that were changed ONLY because the prequel trilogy exists. The Emperor thing I don't count, (maybe the dialouge..?) because it should have been the same dude from RotJ all along.

Does he REALLY want to go there? God, I hope not.... Oh well. Here we go.

How about these changes:

Adding footage from ROTJ into TESB (Vader's shuttle)
Greedo shooting first (COMPLETELY changing Solo's character from an "integrity challenged, shoot first, ask questions later kinda guy that eventually lets' his conscience get the bst of him & does the right thing" into a "Completely honorable, do the right thing, acting in self defense kinda guy"
Boba Fett in ANH - WHY???!!??? What purpose does that serve? If anything, it makes him look like another one of Jabba's flunkies who's been there all along, instead of "the best bounty hunter in the galaxy".
The Wampa in TESB. I always thought that scene was much scarier when you just heard it. Seeing it ruins it for me. Implied violence is ALWAYS more effective than when it's displayed.

And how about the BIGGEST change of all; GL HIMSELF telling us on the Audio Commentaries of the 2004 DVDs that when Leia tells Luke about her mother, that she's talking about her ADOPTED Mother. Ever since 1983, we ALL knew that Leia was talking about (who ended up as) Padme. But GL decided to kill her off in Ep 3, which TOTALLY CONTRADICTS Leia saying, "she died when I was very young".

Are those enough changes for you?

They WERE filmed in order. If you've ever read ANY of the early drafts of the screenplay for Star Wars, you will see that NONE of the backstory that GL CLAIMED he had written for the PT appears.

What he came up with (as he went along) for the PT has no resemblance to the early drafts whatsoever. That's why I say that GL is a HACK. Instead of writing a PROPER story for the PT, he changed the OT to fit his new stuff.

Nothing like a little revisionist history, eh kids? I guess GL thought to himself, "As long as I slap the brand name STAR WARS on it, nobody will notice."

WRONG AGAIN.

TV series set between ROTS and ANH

I first heard about the TV shows (I heard about 2) at Celebration 3 last year, and I've been dreading them ever since. From what I've been led to believe, the first series is going to be a CG Animation Clone Wars series. To cover the events of the CW that the EU & the cartoons missed (Missed??!!??). Again, going by what I've heard, that show isn't supposed to debut until late 2007 early 2008, and depending on the success or failure of it, we might not see the live-action show.

Personally, I wish NEITHER of them would be seen. If I want to see a SW TV Project, I'd rather watch the Holiday Special (right, Adamwan?). Or, if I'm feeling a bit masochistic, I have the Ewok movies (shudder) or the Droids & Ewoks cartoons.

All of the movies are AWESOME in every way.

Sure they are if you like poor acting, shitty dialog & even shittier direction (SW & TESB excluded). IMO, ROTJ & the PT are steaming piles of dog shit, and the clone wars cartoons are nothing more than glorified flash animation.

Look at ROTJ, Harrison Ford didn't want to be in that film. He even suggested that GL kill him off. But GL said no, and Ford looked completely bored throughout the entire film. Carrie Fisher was so coked up that she had no idea what film she was making, and it shows in her performance. Granted, Mark Hamil was good (of course, after his performances in the first 2 films, he HAD to be), and Ian McDiarmid was fantastic, but other than that....

Well, everyone's entitled to their opinion.

Maybe I was "owned" or whatever. It happens to the best of us sometimes. But, I really didn't mean for my original post to sound like a personal attack against scruffy.
I'll admit that the tone of my post was a bit harsh, and I apologize for that. I'm not changing my mind regarding his ideas, but I didn't want people to think that my post was intended to be the beginning of a pissing contest.

That's about all I have to say. No hard feelings, Scruffy?

We'll just have to agree to disagree.

Unorthodox Star Wars Beliefs
Time
This has got to be the most idiotic thing I've EVER read. Nothing personal Scruffy, but I think you're insane. As I've said before in a few threads on the forum, I really do not like the prequals or ROTJ. But, I have never gone to the lengths to re-interpret certain things in order to make the story of the prequals more palatable. Your "beliefs" show (at least to me) that you have crossed the line between fan & fanboy. The shame of this is that now I am compelled to show MY level of nerdity in order to set you straight.

See Threepio was not mindwiped at any time after his reconstruction by Anakin. -- YES HE WAS. It's obvious that he was. In ANH, he has NO IDEA who Obi-Wan is, although R2 is FULLY aware of who he is, where he is, and exactly how to Find him. Granted, R2 was told by Leia to find him, but how is it possible for 3P0 (if he never had a memory wipe) to get lost on Tatooine, when he was CREATED there by Anakin. NOWHERE is it stated that he was re-activated or re-constructed by Anakin. All we can assume is that Anakin found various pieces of different droids and then built 3P0 (read the Novelization of TPM for more info there).
Threepio kept quiet because he had NO MEMORY of what happened in the prequals (that is proven in Luceno's recent book Dark Lord: The Rise Of Darth Vader).

The Prophecy of the Chosen One meant that the Lightsiders (Jedi) and Darksiders (Sith) would be brought into approximate numerical parity -- Oh no. You couldn't have missed THIS point more if you & the point were moving in opposite directions. "Balance" has NOTHING to do with numbers of surviving Jedi & Sith. How ANYONE can think that is beyond me. Let me try to explain this in a "modern day" situation. (you need to be a bit open minded to get this, and I'll ASSUME that you are). In modern society, The Government is in control, and the police enforce the law. When the criminals are running the streets, and their is anarchy, things are out of balance. Now, Obviously the Senate (along with the Chancellor) are the government, the Jedi are the Police, and the Sith are the criminal element. When the Sith are in control, and dominating the galaxy, the Force is out of balance. Balance is the status quo. While it's not perfect, the criminals (arguably) are not in control. Anakin DID in fact bring balance in ROTJ by ending the reign of the Sith, and putting the Government back in charge. (Yes, I realize this is a "perfect world scenario where the government aren't corrupt).
Qui-Gon Jinn knew what "balance" entailed. Of Course he did. Qui-Gon could see that something wasn't right, and the the Sith were growing in power. Did he forsee that Anakin would give himself to the dark side and kill his friends & co-workers? Of course not! While Qui-Gon often disagreed with the Jedi Council, his loyalty to the order was NEVER in question. To suggest that Qui-Gon would make his dying request to his padawan to train someone he foresaw murdering everyone he knew is not heresy, it's just plain stupid.

The Jedi were evil and deserved to die.
-- No. The Jedi were full of themselves, and misguided, but they certainly were not evil. Keep in mind that thanks to the EU, the Jedi Order has gone through several incarnations. Each one with thier own sets of rules. The Jedi Order we see in the PT, is just the current incarnation. However, in EVER incarnation, the Jedi have ALWAYS been, "The guardians of Peace & Justice in the galaxy" or, for lack of a better term, POLICE. The job of the police is to go where the government tells them, and enforce the laws.

the Jedi and Amidala collaborated to fake her death
- Bullshit. As much as I HATE it (because it contradicts ROTJ), Padme is dead. There was no faking of her death. End of story. (Read THE DARK NEST TRILOGY to see how Luke finally finds out about his mother)

As far as your comments regarding the Expanded Universe.....

Timothy Zahn's books are boring.
-- You must have the attention span of a fly. Zahn's books were brilliant. Granted, "Survivor's Quest" is a little slow at times, but Zahn was a perfect choice to START the EU. Further more, Zahn worked VERY closely with West End Games (THE Authority at that time) to make sure there were NO lapses in continuity when he used established species, and technology. This brings me to our next point....

Kevin J. Anderson was right
-- Anderson's books were enjoyable (although Darksaber was quite lame), but he TOTALLY disregarded Zahn's attention to continuty & detail, and did whatever he wanted to when writing his books. That's why after Darksaber, Anderson was relegated to telling ANCIENT Jedi stories. Yes, TOTJ: Redemption was VERY good. That's because Anderson was in open territory. He COULDN'T fuck up anything.

X-wing tells the true story of how the Death Star plans were intercepted and brought to the Tantive IV. Maybe Kyle Katarn had some peripheral involvement, but it was mainly the work of listening station Ax-325 in the Cron Drift and Keyan Farlander.
-- The Expanded Universe tells us that the Death Star Plans were in TWO PARTS. The X-Wing game was half, and Katarn retrieved the other half. (Listen to the NPR Adaptation of ANH for a little more detail as to how the plans get transmitted to the Tantive IV)

Finally....

Who the hell is Maarek Stele? Is he a video game character? He must be, because I've read EVERY EU Novel (except Outbound Flight) and ALL of the Rouge Squadron comics, and I've never heard of him.

Scruffy, I hope I didn't offend you too much. Your beliefs are not heresy. They're just plain wrong and border on stupidity. Especially with all the "evidence" that's out there to show you how wrong you are. Keep in mind that this is NOT a personal attack. You could be a great guy. I just feel the need to point out how mistaken you really are. Granted, none of us here are very happy with the way that the Star Wars Saga has turned out. But it's crazy to see everything that's out there & still have those beliefs. Just accept what it is, and dislike it if you must. But re-interpreting things to make yourself happy makes you (and anyone else that does it) just as bad a Goerge Lucas himself for fucking things up to begin with.

(as a tiny footnote, as I'm typing this post, TNT is running the episode of ER with Ewan McGregor as the guest star)
