It's Official: George Lucas hates his fans :P
Time

While I do certainly agree that the OT community has been given a bad rap of late, I have serious doubts that anything can change George's mind about releasing the originals on Blu-ray, at least in the form and quality that we want. I'm willing to bet that even if we got Stephen Spielberg himself on our side to say just release them already, George would still put his foot down and say no. All evidence up to this point is that George takes people telling him what to do as a vicious attack on him personally, even when it's simply meant to be taken as constructive criticism. I mean, the guy defied the USA's National Film Preservation Board for goodness sake, an institution he helped create!

RLM review of the Red Tails:

It apparently sucks so much ass that it almost seems like George directed it himself ;-)

Haha damn you beat me to it! :P

I don't really have any intention of seeing this film, and based on Mike and Jay's review of it I think I chose wisely.

Watching the interview footage with Lucas was actually painful. How can the man have such a warped sense of reality? The studios turning you down was racism George? You don't think it was because they saw that your movie was crap right from the start? And also "One of the first all black action movies." ....Blaxploitation George. Ring any bells?

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

Say, just something that occurred to me that I thought I'd ask and this seemed to be the right thread to do it.

Has anyone heard about Technicolor prints of ESB and RotJ being out there in private hands? Were there even any Technicolor prints made of those two? I hear a lot about the various privately owned prints of SW but I haven't heard of any existing for Empire and Jedi.

I just think it's a testament to his delusion that he would see that as criminal but what he's doing as just peachy,

I don't think it's possible to even comprehend the level of delusion that George Lucas has. On the one hand he still promotes preserving films in their original forms for the benefit of future generations, and on the other hand he claims that the OT as released in cinemas in '77, '80 and '83 were just rough cuts that should never have seen the light of day, so therefore they shouldn't exist at all. It truly makes me wonder if he realises the hypocrisy of what he says and does (and if so, then logically we can assume he doesn't care), or if his perception of things is so warped that he sees film preservation and Star Wars as two totally separate issues.

The end is nigh... VW's Darth Vader Superbowl advert
Time

Sigh. I miss the early 90s when Star Wars adverts had a quaint innocence about them. Back before the franchise REALLY became a cash cow. I've been replaying TIE Fighter recently and it just makes me sad that back in about '92-'93 there was so much optimism about Star Wars. To quote Mr. Plinkett though, "Now everything sucks." Every day, commercials like this remind us just how much of a farce Star Wars has become.

Hi Everybody! Long time viewer, first time poster. I just found an interesting interview with the New York Times that Lucas has done recently, wherein he claims he won’t do any more Star Wars movies because:

“Why would I make any more,” Lucas says of the “Star Wars” movies, “when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?"

Once again it seems Mr. Lucas is king at completely missing the point of just why people are so angry at him, as he also said:

On the Internet, all those same guys that are complaining I made a change are completely changing the movie,” Lucas says, referring to fans who, like the dreaded studios, have done their own forcible re-edits. “I’m saying: ‘Fine. But my movie, with my name on it, that says I did it, needs to be the way I want it.

The full article is here: George Lucas Is Ready to Roll the Credits

Skip to page 3 if you want to read his comments on Star Wars specifically. It really is amazing that after all this time Mr. Lucas seems to be completely oblivious to the fact that no one is saying he can’t edit his movies, but just that he should release the originals as well!

Obviously it is genuinely horrible what some people say of him (raped my childhood, worse than Hitler etc.) but I mean come on.
