One thing I didn’t like was you have Return of the Jedi. And then a couple of movies later you have The Last Jedi with apparently Luke being the last Jedi. It kind of makes the “Return” rather pointless.

Return of the Jedi= Vader turning back to the light.

It can be both. But Luke does become a Jedi inbetween Empire and Jedi.

No he doesn’t.

“Not yet. One thing remains…”

Well, then Luke becomes a Jedi at the end of the movie? Fits even better with Return of the Jedi being Luke becomes a “new” Jedi since 30+ years prior.

Ah, but remember Yoda’s words in ROTJ, “Luke, when gone am I… the last of the Jedi will you be.”

He was being totally serious and literal.

Yes, last of the Jedi in that moment as Obi-Wan had already died and Yoda was dying. But after watching ROTJ with it being called “Return of the Jedi”. I always took that to mean that the Jedi were back at the end of the movie. i.e. the Jedi were previously hunted down and nearly all killed pre-Episode IV. And Luke caused the death of Vader and the Emperor and then Luke became a “new” Jedi.

And so I had always imagined that after ROTJ, that the Jedi were back. i.e. Luke trains new Jedi, plus they’re not being hunted down anymore, etc.

I think this is the problem some of you are having with TLJ (and by extension TFA). You have had in your mind, ever since 1983 in some cases, how things should go after ROTJ. You got something different, so you don’t like it. That’s fair, but someone else’s interpretation of how things went after ROTJ is also fair. And also happens to be what was put into theaters.

JEDIT: Spare me the “RJ’s interpretation of Luke is wrong and mine is right” argument, it’s been said over and over already.

It’s not just the story. But the new movies have crappy jokes, and badly directed and edited. Though TLJ is better directed than TFA.

I’d still like to find out if Lucas had planned on in his version there being more Storm Troopers and a “new” Empire type force in the ST.

Of course the rebels will win. Episode VIII had some “refreshing twists” but ultimately the story it sets up is literally the one where the outcome is incredibly predictable for IX

  • First Order loses.
  • Kylo Ren dies/is turned (probably dies not to be called RotJ rehash).

It’ll be a pleasant surprise if they come up with something really new, and I’d be impressed that they had the guts to do something new, and that they managed to think of something new.

It would be interesting if in IX that Kylo wins and kills Rey and destroys the Resistance and becomes a new Sith lord or something.

Ah, OK, then an 8.5" × 11" would work for you!

My experience has always been that somewhere between .5" and .25" margins the ability to print gets unreliable. But I’ve never had an Epson printer.

BTW, keep in mind, those screen caps are from Special Editions. Of course, for the majority of movie stills that won’t matter. But just something to remember.

Yes, I had thought that those screen caps probably are from the Special Editions, and also I wasn’t sure if they are low quality compressed jpg’s compared to pulling them directly from the movie files.

But what I had planned on doing is using that website to go through all the screen caps to pick the ones I like, since it would be real easy vs. rewatching the movies again. Then I’ll go through Harmy’s Star Wars in a video program to pull screen caps from there.

I’m still researching the double sided paper.

That all sounds great. Another piece of freeware graphics software that might interest you is GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP).

If you want to reproduce those cases, this site might be helpful:

https://starwarsscreencaps.com/

But also be aware, the producers of everything Despecialized are very much aware of ldsentertainment, and that site and whoever runs it are despised around here for obvious reasons.

Thanks. That link is really good. I was originally planning on opening the movies up in a program to scroll through it and copy pics of a frame.

Hey Ryan, I know you’re exited about your project, but you’re starting to spam. The answers to all those questions could have been answered with a little searching on your part or with PMs to individual users. And quoting big chunks like that clogs the thread.

As far as the Discs go they are only 720p, but still vastly superior to the official blu-rays. You won’t regret the the effort of getting them! 😃

I removed the photo links out of other’s quotes to shorten their quote. There isn’t any “search”. It would be easier if there were a search function on this forum. As instead of being able to do quick searches, I have to go through hundreds of pages and thus reading through all of that, I have made a few quotes/responses that go back to back instead of more spread out.

It’s not “spam”. I just found this thread and so far went through 30 pages over a few hours. So my 4 or so posts aren’t really anything when I’ve read others in this thread with 30+ posts. It’s just that I so far read through 30 pages in a short period of time, and so my quotes/response are back to back.

This forum is hard to read because so many different things are spread out over hundreds of pages. You have to read like 100 pages of a thread to try and piece some things together. I think on some topics the original poster should probably also edit their first post and add the extra info or links or whatever in there so all the new links/info/edits can also be found in the first post instead of only spread out across tens or hundreds of pages.

Absolutely loving these discs! Once the set is complete, these are going to become my “official” set. One minor note on the ESB 50GB from myspleen, the on-screen menus list the commentary track as “Laserdisk” commentary instead of “Laserdisc” commentary. Obviously not worth an update by itself, but it would be great if that could be corrected in some future version.

Thanks! I’ve fixed that error in my Jedi set now (good timing, as I’ve been making final changes), and will fix it up in ESB once 2.5 comes out.

Awesome work Dahmage! If you add disc art for the Documentary discs it will be perfect.

I’ve also been working on disk art using the same amazing set Dahmage has used. Here is a very simple design for the Documentaries disks, and for the bonus fanedit disks that I will be including in my finished set.

Do you have the disc art files that are still edible? i.e. you could move the logos and things around?

but also confused that you would spend money on it instead of an affordable BD burner. I think I’m still confused about the last part, if you go beyond the trial.)

You’d be way better of DL’ing and burning Harmy’s old AVCHD versions, which were built from the ground up for DVD9’s. Even though they’re now completely obsolete relative to the standards of the BD releases, they’d still look better than what any cheap program would produce after quickly mashing down these newer releases to fit on DVD…

Yes, that’s another great point. You could always remove the main feature and burn the extras to a second AVCHD. But, with no disrespect to njvc, the quality of the video in the extras is not the selling point of the set, and some of them are already quite compressed.

Also, I find BD-Rs to be more reliable than DL DVD-Rs. Fewer write fails for me with BD. DVD-R tech is known for using shitty dye (I believe they are not expected to have the lifespan of even CD-Rs). It’s worth considering saving up for a BD burner, which can be as cheap as $65-80 bucks. But compared to spending cash on software for DVD-R burning, I think it’s a no brainer.

Make sure when you get a blank Blu-Ray disc, to get one that is marked as “HTL”. You don’t want “LTH” Blu-Ray discs, which are similar to CD-R’s DVD-R’s in quality and dyes used. HTL Blu-Ray discs will last a lot longer and have less burn errors. I recommend looking at Digistor or Verbatim DataLifePlus Blu-Rays.

A while back I picked up this Pioneer Blu-Ray burner. I wanted a slot loading one: https://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Computer/Computer+Drives/BDR-XS06

Hi again Ryan,

If you are going to use a 12mm blu-ray case, phildesfr’s stuff is already properly sized.

And I believe it already has bleed marks built in beneath the visable design, but even if not, since I do know the size is already correct, just print and take it to an office supply store and trim the edges with their paper trimmer manually to the finished measurements below.

width: 10 7/16" by
height: 5 13/16"

I’d recommend glossy 32 lb (brochure weight) inkjet paper that’s not pre-folded or pre-perforated, 8.5 × 14 inches. It can be a little hard to track down, though. You might have to ask a print shop to buy a few blank sheets of paper like that if you can’t find it to order.

When I have time, I’ll have to check it out in a program. I know Phil used Adobe, but I generally like using Corel. They have a vector program and paint program. It’s a lot easier to use than Adobe stuff. Though Adobe does have more features than Corel.

Actually, you can use 8.5" x 11". There’s enough room there for that.

Also, I use Viva Elite Blu-Ray cases. And their “12mm” is actually a little thinner than other brands. So I’d adjust the spine of the insert to be 11mm wide.

I originally was going to use a 3-disc case for the Harmy OT trilogy. But I really liked the artwork for these inserts. Also, I know people selling these are “bad”. But when searching around the internet, I came across a page of someone selling these and they did 2-sided printing that I really liked the look of.

These are really great. I’ll probably resize them a little bigger and add cut marker lines so I don’t get any “white” and I can use the marker lines to line up my ruler and cut with a straight edge.

Also glad that you included edible versions. I wish everyone would do that. Depending on what all I download, I may need to edit the “bonus” features. Also glad that you included the fonts.

Someone has uploaded artwork for the discs. And they also included edible versions. Which is really great because I didn’t like how they put the “version” on there. And so I can put that where I want it, and I can edit it when a newer Harmy version comes out.

I’m not sure I understand what you’re asking. If you are refering to cover art for disc case inserts, I would not recommend glue at all. Print the first side image of your insert aligned with the top left hand corner of the paper. Then take the printout, flip it over, and print the second side image of your insert, but this time aligning it to the top right hand corner of the paper on the other side, like so:

1

It won’t line up exacty, but if you oversize it by a few millimeters, you can trim the excess from the edges. It will all be on one sheet and then you wouldn’t need any glue for the insert.

If you’re talking about making a cardboard box cover for the three films (like this or this) it’s probably best to use an acid-free spray adhesive or a rubber cement.

This guide might be helpful.

This video may also come in handy, though I would not recomend using the mailing lables it shows as the adhesive probably won’t last as well as the glues I mentioned above.

That’s probably way more info than you were looking for, but hopefully some of that helps!

What brand/type of paper is recommended for these Blu-Ray cover inserts? I know I’d want something kind of thick. i.e. thicker than regular paper. So it would be more durable, and because I may print on both sides, and so I’d want less “see thru”. Also don’t want the paper to get wavy from the ink.

For a case like this, the measurements of the finished cover insert would be approximately:

width: 10 7/16" by
height: 5 13/16"

However, remember that there are various case styles, (standard, slimline, etc). Make sure to measure for what you aquire specifically.

Also make sure to print with about an extra 1/16" or so on all sides to trim off. This is known as a “bleed” and will allow for clean cuts without any white from the paper at the edges.

This site may also be helpful.

Wouldn’t it be best if the “bleed” was already designed in the artwork of the file? i.e. you can put some cut markings on outside of the design, so you can use a ruler/cutter to cut it out, but that the artwork should spill over a little on the cut markings.

I’m going to have to look at the artwork in a program to see if Phil made the artwork a little oversized for bleed.

If not, then I may slightly enlarge the artwork to scale, and add cut line markings outside the design. The nice thing is he has edible versions, which I assume the text is vector. And should slightly enlarging the artwork won’t cause the text to go a little blurry.

There’s no reason not to try burning on the ones you have if they are 50 gb for SW, ESB, ROTJ, & ROTJ bonus discs, and 25 gb for SW bonus & ESB bonus discs. It’s just that I can’t vouch for that brand. And I can vouch for Verbatim discs.

Yes, I’ve got 50GB and 25GB Digistor Blu-ray inject printable discs. I was originally deciding between Verbatim DataLifePlus and the Digistor discs.

If you go with Verbatim, it’s best to go with the DataLifePlus. As those are more of an archive type disc with HTL, and I believe should have less errors than their other discs.

I also bought some M-Disc’s inkjet printable Blu-Ray’s that I planned to use for my first Harmy Star Wars Blu-Ray’s set. But those were 25G, and so are too small for NJVC new custom set. I have read that with M-Disc’s you don’t want to burn all the way to the edge. i.e. you don’t want it filled up 100% max. As I’ve read of some people getting corrupted data along the disc’s edge.

Hi Ryan,

I’ve never tried those and the listings I’m finding look expensive. Is there a reason why you’d prefer them to Verbatim besides the labeling issue? For what it’s worth, I have found that printing over any small bit of writing on the discs covers it better than you might expect.

I ordered them because they are a solid white printable label and because they are made in Japan and they advertise them as having a hard disc coating. I believe Verbatim has their blank Blu-Ray discs made in different locations that are hard to tell where by the listing on the internet. But I’ve read the made in Japan discs are the best.

I bought the discs for data back for my computer as well as burning Harmy’s Star Wars version on Blu-Ray. So I was mostly interested in good data preservation first and foremost.

Also I believe Verbatim makes low quality and high quality Blu-Ray discs. I don’t know what prices you are comparing. But I believe the “good” Verbatim discs are marked “DataLifePlus”.

Does anyone use Digistor Blu-Ray discs? They make inkjet printable disks, and they don’t have any logo’s on the front like I believe some of the Verbatim has. Also their discs are “HTL”, which is the best kind of Blu-ray discs to use vs the cheap “LTH” discs that you see for sale everywhere. Also a while back, I’ve read that Blu-Ray discs out of Japan are the best, and I believe the Digistor discs are made in Japan.

What HTL and LTH are:
