The Mandalorian - Star Wars live action TV series : Non Spolier thread
Time

I like the idea of releasing episodes one at a time. It makes it more of an event and more conversation about each episode every week since everyone will be on the same episode around the same time. They want each episode to be highly anticipated like Game of Thrones and Walking Dead.

I think Star Wars is doing great. I’d say Lucas did more butchering with the the Holiday Special, Ewok Movies, special editions, and prequels, but Star Wars is still going. I love it as much as I ever did.

The level of Lucas’ involvement with the HS is questionable at best. And the Ewok movies are squarely aimed at kids in spite of Battle For Endor rivaling Alien 3 in some respects. 😉

Still, it’s all Star Wars. It just seems people talk about the Original Trilogy as some sort of sacred era of perfection before Disney came along and made all of this other stuff they don’t like. It’s as if they have deleted the Holiday Special, two Ewok movies, Ewok animated series, and Droids animated series all from their memories. Star Wars has always been about more than just the main saga movies, and The Last Jedi isn’t the first piece of Star Wars that some people haven’t liked.

I can sympathize though. I know where they’re coming from. Disney owns Star Wars and they don’t see an end to the current style of movies. I thought the same thing during the prequels. People come and go and someone else will inevitably be in charge of new Star Wars movies. Hopefully those will be more to their liking, but I don’t think Star Wars has been ruined, nor is it ending anytime soon.

I took the advice above and rewatched Clone Wars (2003 - 2005 animated tv series). I must say I loved it. I remember hating it when I tried to watch it before and not liking the tone or the animation style. I didn’t have a problem with any of it at all this time and enjoyed it very much. It’s definitely good to revisit things from time to time.

When comparing it to The Clone Wars (2008 - 2014 animated tv series) I will say the action and tone are more intense in the 2003 series. At least for me, I’d say the 2008 series has more drama and goes deeper into the individual characters.

This made me really pour over my list and put some more thought into my assesment of all things Star Wars. Here is my new list, and I think it should hold up for a while, at least until I have to add The Mandalorian and The Rise of Skywalker.

Thanks to everyone who encouraged me to give Clone Wars another look.

five-stars
1.Rogue One
2.The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
3.Star Wars (1977)
4.Return of the Jedi (1983)
5.The Last Jedi
6.The Force Awakens
7.Solo
8.Rebels (2014 - 2018 animated tv series)
9.Resistance (2018 animated tv series)

four-stars
10.The Clone Wars (2008 - 2014 animated tv series)
11.Clone Wars (2003 - 2005 animated tv series)
12.Ewoks (1985 - 1986 animated tv series)
13.Star Wars Holiday Special (1978)
14.Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure (1984 tv movie)
15.Ewoks: The Battle for Endor (1985 tv movie)

three-stars
16.The Phantom Menace (1999)
17.Attack of the Clones (2002)
18.Revenge of the Sith (2005)

Is everyone pretty much thinking the same thing then? ($700,000,000 domestic/$1.4 worldwide) I haven’t seen too many predictions far outside of those numbers.

The Force Awakens opening weekend was $247,966,675 and The Last Jedi opened with $220,009,584, so I would expect The Rise of Skywalker to at least open around $230,000,000.

I’m definitely predicting less than The Last Jedi. I really think a lot of people were turned off by it and don’t feel the need to see final installment.

Are you going to see it?

I know we don’t even have a full trailer yet, and we haven’t seen the full marketing hype, but since the title of this thread is box office predictions and expectations, I thought it would be fun to see some early ideas. The extreme high and low predictions will be especially interesting in a few months.

I’m very excited for this. Disney+ is going to be huge. Great time to be a Star Wars fan!

More doesn’t always equal better.

I’d rather them make new movies and shows than make none at all. Also, I’ve loved the new movies and animated series, and the footage I’ve seen from The Mandalorian looks excellent, so I don’t see the trend of me enjoying things ending anytime soon.

I’ve wanted a live-action Star Wars series since I was a kid watching the original Battlestar Galactica. Ewan McGregor was one of the bright spots of the prequels. Sounds like a really great idea to me. I’m even more looking forward to the Cassian Andor series. He’s a really great character.

It could be bad, but even if it is, I’d rather they tried than didn’t. I have a feeling these new projects will be better than the Holiday Special and Ewok movies. Star Wars was just fine after those, even though they weren’t the best, so I’m sure everything will be fine.

Also the 2003 Tarakovsky series is available through YouTube in it’s entirety and like most people here I think is really great and recommend taking another look at it. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOdxpOxy4M9Ncqw31bNB9dtsNg3Ga2bfB

I will check it out again sometime this week and report back.

For the record, I used to not like The Clone Wars much either, but after a rewatch it contains some of my favorite Star Wars moments. I suppose Clone Wars deserves another chance too.

Yes, Tartakovsky’s series. It’s widely regarded as a very good series, especially around these parts. I consider it to be much better than the 2008 series, and I think many other users share my opinion.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen it. I remember not being able to get through it because I hated the animation style. Maybe I should give it another chance. Not sure how available it is though since it’s not canon.

The Rise of Skywalker box office results: predictions and expectations
Time

So what are everyone’s box office predictions for TRoS? I’m keeping mine at $700,000,000 domestic and $1,400,000,000 worldwide for now, but I fully expect to revise that upward depending on the hype.

Here is a list of the Star Wars movies domestic box office adjusted for inflation with Endgame thrown in just for fun. The numbers correspond to where they rank on the all-time domestic adjusted list.

2.Star Wars - $1,604,857,600

11.The Force Awakens - $974,117,000

13.The Empire Strikes Back - $884,607,500

16.Avengers: Endgame - $858,041,646

17.Return of the Jedi - $847,475,300

19.The Phantom Menace - $813,711,800

44.The Last Jedi - $609,026,300

62.Rogue One - $544,579,000

69.Revenge of the Sith - $534,514,500

100.Attack of the Clones - $481,750,900

Here’s where they fall on the all-time unadjusted domestic list:

1.The Force Awakens - $936,662,225

2.Avengers: Endgame - $858,041,646

9.The Last Jedi - $620,181,382

12.Rogue One - $532,177,324

16.The Phantom Menace - $474,544,677

17.Star Wars - $460,998,007

41.Revenge of the Sith - $380,270,577

77.Attack of the Clones - $310,676,740

79.Return of the Jedi - $309,306,177

95.The Empire Strikes Back - $290,475,067

184.Solo: A Star Wars Story - $213,767,512

If TRoS only makes the $700,000,000 that I predicted, that would put it in a decent spot on both lists, but good reviews, positive word of mouth, and marketing it as the end of the Skywalker saga could boost it considerably.

Looking at these lists, I think the demise of Star Wars has been greatly exaggerated. Galaxy’s Edge will open at the end of this month in Disney World, which is a considerably larger park. I think both will do well once all rides are fully open.

Multiple live-action shows are coming to Disney+ as well as animated series. We have video games, novels, and comics as well. In the world of today with such a wide variety of instantaneous entertainment options that are only a click away, I think Star Wars is doing great and couldn’t be in better hands.

Even when it comes to Star Wars, some of it has always been less popular than other parts. The Star Wars Holiday Special, The Ewok Movies, the Droids animated series. But the sky didn’t fall then and isn’t falling now.

Life is short, and there are only so many Star Wars movie premiers I will get in my lifetime. I’m going to enjoy each one to the absolute fullest. I’m going to make The Rise of Skywalker a huge part of my holiday season. I am already excited and the real hype hasn’t even started! Can’t wait!

The Force will be with you, always.

The Rise of Skywalker box office results: predictions and expectations
Time

I’ll predict The Rise of Skywalker to do $700,000,000 domestic and $1,400,000,000 worldwide. That’s more than The Last Jedi and less than The Force Awakens, very respectable.

This is of course before seeing a full trailer and experiencing the full marketing hype. Some positive word of mouth combined with the holiday season could considerably increase those numbers.

Not everyone who didn’t like The Last Jedi is a hater or a troll. Likewise, not everyone who enjoyed it is a undiscerning fanboy who just eats up whatever they put out. Broad generalizations about large groups of people are bound to have multiple flaws, so why not just ignore them.
