What are you reading?
Time

I read Dune when I was a kid, but now I’m reading it again in preparation for the new movie. Either I don’t remember it well, or more likely I’m just getting more out of it as an adult.

I never read past the first book, but I have an acquaintance who is a Dune fanatic, so I know some of what happens. I plan on continuing the series.

I also recently read the first three Foundation books. Very easy read and extremely interesting. Got my imagination really going as good sci-fi/fantasy should. Hope they do it justice with the new series.

“Since you are reluctant to provide us with the unaltered versions, we have chosen to test this sites reconstructive power on the Original Trilogy.“

“No! You can’t possibly…”

“You would prefer us to purchase another box set? Then release the unaltered!“

“Here’s the GOUT.”

“Continue with the operation. You may download when ready.“

I watched The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker back-to-back today. I still love both movies, flaws and all.

“Ahh, JJ Abrams. I recognized your empty mystery box when you were brought back on board.”

“Charming to the last. You don’t know how hard I found it, signing the order to terminate Colin Trevorrow’s script.”

Star Wars Headcanons
Time

Those skeletons were not Owen and Beru. Both were a lot more formidable than their preferred modest lifestyle would indicate. They eliminated the first two Stormtroopers to arrive and stole their armor. Owen burned the bodies, and Beru sent a phony report saying they had interrogated and killed two civilians, but found no droids. Owen had already overheard Leia’s message and deduced Obi-Wan would be taking Luke to Alderaan, so they planned on reuniting there, but lost track of them when the planet was destroyed.

Would it not be amazing if we got a Darth Vader movie directed by Christopher Nolan?
Time

We’ve seen a lot of Anakin in the prequels and The Clone Wars series, but not a whole lot of Vader since the Originals. He had a little part in Rogue One and popped up in the animated series, but most of Vader still resides in the Originals, so I don’t feel overwhelmed with Vader.

Before the prequels were released, I envisioned a lot more of Vader hunting down Jedi. Now that we have Anakin’s backstory, I’m not sure a movie with Vader as the central character would fit well. I think instead you would have to make something centered around a group of Jedi who survived Order 66 and are being hunted by Vader. Focus on and build those characters, then let Vader do what he does best, be the menacing villain who inspires fear. That sounds a lot like Rogue One with more Jedi, so maybe that wouldn’t fit well either.

Perhaps Vader best left to surprise cameos that leave us wanting more.

What is your main way of watching the Original Trilogy?
Time

When I really want to sit down and entertain myself with Star Wars, I go to my Harmy discs for the Original Trilogy. The unaltered versions will always be my favorite. But sometimes I just want to see the best possible picture, so I put in the 4K UHD just to take in the higher resolution and HDR (and imagine what could have been if they included the unaltered version with this release).

But if we’re talking how Star Wars is played most often, when I am doing things around the house and just want something playing in the background, I open Disney+ and just stream away. If there was a counter on how many times I’ve streamed all the Star Wars movies, I’m sure it would be high, very high. Clone Wars, Rebels, and Resistance too.

Info: Mike Verta’s 4K Restoration - May 2020 Livestream
Time

So what have we narrowed it down to in all this time?

Possible reasons for not releasing the unaltered versions:

  1. contractual obligation with Lucas
  2. respect for George’s wishes
  3. a proper restoration of the unaltered scenes isn’t possible
  4. Disney/Lucasfilm just doesn’t care about the unaltered versions

When will we see an official release of the unaltered versions?

  1. whenever Disney/Lucasfilm wants to cash-in on an updated release
  2. after George is gone
  3. never

Weren’t the 4K scans done in 2014? Why did it take until 2020 to be released? Why wait? Maybe they’re sitting on the unaltered versions until a certain amount of time after the most recent release?

The scenes Garett Edwards used in Rogue One looked great. I know work was done to incorporate them into R1, but I have to think there’s a lot of material available. Certainly enough to restore the unaltered version and probably create some new special features we haven’t seen.

I always go back to George being the roadblock. I don’t think anyone else is opposed, so why not do it? Do they just not care? Or could they be saving the unaltered release for additional cash in later on?
