<strong>The Mandalorian</strong> - a general discussion thread - * <em><strong>SPOILERS</strong></em> *
Time

I think anyone’s face looks odd if you stare at it long enough. I dare say this will be scrutinized more than any other. I guess I’m more forgiving. TV shows have come a long way from Buck Rogers and the original Battlestar Galactica. I didn’t have a problem with Tarkin or Leia in Rogue One and I don’t mind this either.

They don’t look perfects and we’re likely years away from any technique coming close. Between now and then I applaud the efforts to get us there.

I’d rather have what we got than nothing at all.

George Lucas's Sequel Trilogy
Time

I still love George Lucas, but he had all the money and resources to make anything he wanted and he didn’t. He could have made more Star Wars or any of the experimental movies he always talked about. Selling to Disney was the best thing for Star Wars. Even of you don’t like the sequel trilogy, at least they have plans to continue with other ideas. The wide variety of series they have planned look promising, and I think Patty Jenkins sounds perfect to make Rogue Squadron. Should be a little something for everyone.

The prequels have grown on me, but Rogue One an The Mandalorian are closer to the sort of Star Wars content I want. I thank George so much for creating the sandbox, but I’m glad others are getting to play in it now.

I want to hear about casting. Which actress are they choosing to play Rogue Leader.

I know directors sometimes like to cast people they’ve worked with before, so here’s a few that have been in her movies. I wonder if one of two of them will show up?

Charlize Theron
Christina Ricci
Bruce Dern
Gal Gadot
Chris Pine
Robin Wright
Danny Huston
David Thewlis
Kristen Wiig
Pedro Pascal

A criticism that I see which I think is very valid is the fact that Mando is immune to any real danger thanks to his Beskar armour, making him affectively invincible. This was really highlighted when he was attacked by Gideon. If even a lightsaber can’t make a scratch, then where’s the danger? Why should the audience be worried. It’s like the Superman conundrum in story telling.

The only solution would be to strip him of his armour in season 3.

The Mudhorn almost killed him while wearing his older armor, but even with his new armor on he almost died after an explosion before IG-11 treated him. Beskar doesn’t grant invincibility and sometimes it’s a liability. Those Quarren sailors almost drowned him just to get his armor. Also, if Beskar kept Mandalorians from dying, then why are they all dead? (paraphrase Burg quote)

Also, it even works with him no altering his voice in the show because at this point, with the empire ousted and the clone wars a distant memory for many, it’s less of a concern that people would recognize his voice or, if they do, care.

I’m guessing that’s what Cobb Vanth was talking about when he told Din Djarin to tell his people he wasn’t the one who broke that.

<strong>Rangers Of The New Republic</strong> (live action series) - general discussion thread (<strong>Cancelled</strong>)
Time

Three different series will culminate in a climactic event. I’m thinking the Ahsoka series will primarily deal with her and Sabine looking for Ezra by finding Thrawn. Season 3 of The Mandalorian probably focuses on Mandalore and the darksaber. No idea what Rangers of the New Republic could be. I like Ezra, but even if you don’t, I doubt he’s coming to take over all three series. I do think the beginnings of The First order could be involved though, but that’s just a guess.

Side note, my two cats are named Ezra and Sabine.

I watched the entire second season again. To me this is a master class in how you do Star Wars. This is my absolute favorite Star Wars content but the last thing I want to do is use it to bash other entries. The prequels and sequels aren’t perfect, but neither are the originals. I’ve yet to read an idea that was better than what we got.

Every aspect of The Mandalorian is just excellent. The writing, the special effects, the direction, everything is just top notch, but if I had to pick what impresses me the most, it’s the score. Just give Ludwig another Emmy right now.

And I think they should know by now to stop burning money on this stuff that always fails and has to be fixed by amateur deep fake people online. Mark Hamill can still have the role, but when it’s so prohibitive (to the budget and the performance) they need to do it another way. Give him a beard, do practical makeup, do something else. It’s gonna age like milk. Evidently people haven’t complained enough.

People aren’t complaining because it wasn’t a fail. More than that, not only was it not a fail, it was a huge success. Not saying it was perfect, but nothing ever is or will be. They told us a great story and used what they had to tell it the best way they could. I loved every second. The reward was well worth it.

Also, super irritated that the Mando/Bo-Katan conflict that had just presented itself was put on pause for Luke to show up and do his twirly light show, only for them to never unpause it, leaving that thread dangling without it feeling like a proper cliffhanger.

The Empire Strikes Back ended with Luke’s hand cut off and his parentage in question while Han was frozen in carbonite, and we had to wait three years for Return of the Jedi. I’m guessing we’ll find out more about the darksaber sooner than that.

I feel like Mando removing the helmet would have been hyperspace lanes more impactful had we not see him do it in the last episode 😕

He took it off before because he HAD to. He took it off this time because he WANTED to.

Like father, like son. Ey? 😉

Was Grogu at Luke’s school when Ben/Kylo killed a bunch of other students? Is Luke going to take Grogu somewhere else?

Well, that doesn’t happen until 28 aby, while this show starts in 5 aby, and given that Grogu has already had some training, he’ll probably have graduated by then.

The Mandalorian takes place 9 ABY, but still, look at 50 year old Grogu. How much different will he be at 69 years old? I guess none of us can comment with authority regarding the growth of his species but it just seems he has a long way to go before he even reaches what we would consider a teenager.

I was way off in most of my predictions, but that is a good thing in my opinion. Nobody died and they didn’t have a darker season finale. But there was this one thing:

I was thinking it would be Bo-Katan who would fight Gideon. It would make sense for her to “win” the Darksaber from him, instead of having it given to her, if she is to rule Mandalore. But then again, she seems almost maniacally fanatic about it. Is she the right one to lead Mandalore? Has she changed somewhat? Could she become a villain of sorts? There’s just so many directions they could go with everything.

Not sure if Bo-Katan goes full villain, but there are definitely some things to work out.

Din Djarin still doesn’t have his own ship. Cara Dune wants to take Gideon to the New Republic. Bo-Katan wants the darksaber and Gideon’s ship. Does he leave with Cara Dune on the shuttle or stay with Bo-Katan? Fennec and Boba are off on their own.

Has Grogu seen R2-D2 before?

Will Luke be the next poster on Monday?

I did too. I definitely think it was intentional.

<s>Why I Love Prequel Yoda</s> (<em>Outdated</em>)
Time

People watched a vague set of movies that were largely dependent on inference, but came away with a narrow view of ideas based on their own opinions. Star Wars is much more wide open. It would be very boring if everything followed a strict set of rules and nothing new or surprising happened. I’m sure this is the wrong place for such an opinion.

Is it just one long special instead of individual episodes this time?
