Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (Special Navajo Edition) Official DVD (Released)
Time

UPDATE

  1. I need to verify that further discussion of the preservation of this OOP DVD will be allowed.

  2. I also cannot find a scan or a photo of the back or spine so, I’m also working on creating a “Preservation Edition” cover that I hope will somewhat replicate the original DVD cover.

  3. I’m also planning on editing in the Diné title crawl into Harmy’s Despecialized version creating a hybrid edit, but I’ve not edited a movie in almost twenty years so I’ll need to learn how to upscale and see if my old ass software is even capable of this task. If not I’ll be after some freeware.

The Phantom Edit VHS
Time

Thatstinkyguy said:

I heard that The Phantom Edit was originally distributed on VHS tapes then DVD later on. I know the DVD exists (I remember Chris Gore in The People vs. George Lucas showing it), but I’ve never seen actual pictures of the VHS version. Does anyone have a VHS of TPE? If so, would you mind sending pictures of the front and back of the cover. And the front of the tape itself.

Thanks in advance!

I’ve never seen the art for the VHS only a few tapes with handwritten labels and I’ve never had a super scan of the official VHS to replicate the the pictured cover for the DVD. I just uploaded a cover for the DVD version in another thread.

The Classic Edits DVD Covers
Time

Hey there gang!

So, I have updated all of my DVD covers for the original round of fan edits I recently uploaded to zippyshare. I noticed the covers included were not up to par so with a fresh CS5 install and hours of scouring backup drive I found my twenty years old PSD files!

The Phantom Re-Edit 1.2 - Unknown

The Phantom Edit I.I - The Phantom Editor

The Phantom Edit I.II - The Phantom Editor

Attack of the Phantom II.I - The Phantom Editor

The Phantom’s New Hope - The Pagana Edit

And a teaser cover for a future upload…

Word to the Spookies!

DeEd has the necessary Navajo subs to accompany the dub, and you can download the subs separately in Project Threepio (Navajo’s not listed as a supported language because we don’t have complete-movie Navajo subs for the whole trilogy, but we do have the portion that accompanies the dub)

Yep, this is what I used but it is no substitute for the actual discs.

Info: The "Lost Cut" Of ANH
Time

Votss said:

In 1977, I clearly remember seeing ANH in a theatre within the first two weeks of its release and the deleted scenes(lost cut) were included in the film. I was 11 years old and saw it twice at the theater. The first time I saw it I clearly remember Luke looking up at a sparkling space battle. Luke speeds past a woman yelling. The Toshi station scene and how dimly lit it was. I remember being sort of confused by these scenes and the pace of the film and it’s connection to the robots in the opening. I always thought that I was imagining all theses memories until the deleted scenes were finally released. The Biggs meeting and Aunt Beru and the pouring of the blue milk was all there. The cantina was weird and stranger. Vader climbed into a fighter near the end and yells as he is spinning away.
The second time I saw ANH, the scenes were cut and film is as we all know it today. I’ve been searching for others who have seen a rough version also and finding more reports that I’m not alone.
The only thing I can figure is that within the first two weeks of distribution the studios released rougher cuts of the 70mm film and these were shown to the public just to get the film out on schedule… within a few short weeks a newer trimmed down distributed film with final cuts was made and theaters were asked to return rough films and/or make cuts to match final release since film copies were expensive and easier to do if certain theaters had the capability… all I know is what I clearly remember, and somewhere other than George’s safe a rough cut still exists… in color and with sound. On a final note, A lot of Star Wars fans back in 77 brought tape recording equipment into shows and made audio tapes. These tapes may prove to be the final answer… that some of us were able to witness something special! The lost rough theatrical release.

Your 100% right it happened, no I’m kidding.

This is referred to as the Mandela Effect. I think your personal memory is due to multiple stacked convoluted memories of the movie, radio dramas, the books, and the various making of’s. We all experience these types of memories to various degrees and the longer ago it was and the more you’ve retold the story the more “real” these jumbled memories become.

This is a fascinating subject all around but… Unless you are now in your 70-80’s and were in your mid to late twenties in 1976/77 oh and a select member of the film making elite who actually saw a rough cut without score and parts in black and white. I must call poodoo on this.

Either that OR you really are from an alternate dimension! And somehow you’ve became stuck in our apparently lacking one!

MagnoliaFan Edits: Ep I "Balance Of The Force", and Ep II "The Clone War" (Released)
Time

I will be re-uploading the original DVD’s again to Zippyshare as there has been some interest in these edits again. I realized I don’t have any NFO’s for these so I’m going to have to create new ones before I upload them and I’ll take all of the covers posted in this thread and add them to the DVD-Rom.

Update to come.

Okay the DVD’s with the LD transfers will not rip (I tried three PC’s now) the Ritek RiDATA has visible separation and the IDE drive that may have them will not initialize but I’ll try to recover the drive here at home and work. But my VHS to DVD master MPEG2 files on Taiyo Yudens ripped!

So if anyone has any interest in the VHS preservation hit me up and I’ll link you. Direct password links can be found on snahp.it if you’re a member.

They did that badly in the UK? And I’ve never heard of a print being destroyed just because a movie did badly. I’ve seen prints of Howard The Duck on Ebay over the years. 😉

I know it was just a wild ass statement (fake news!)… But its known to have happened from time to time.

In all honesty since it was a limited release, so we would have to know how many screens it showed on and I would estimate 3-5 so there may have only been that many copies of each film. I have a suspicion that for the DVD’s they may have used the Lucasfilm archives 35mm’s for the DVD transfers.

So I wonder if the VHS and laserdiscs are sourced from the broadcast tapes? Damn I can’t really remember them that well so I’ll have to watch them in the next few days. I’ll transfer the MPG’s to my TiVo and find the differences based on the interwebs information as I do not have the official DVD’s.

I realize something for a while now; is it possible the DVD versions of the Ewok movies are actually the international theatrical versions (I.E. changes made for that market as opposed to the US television versions)?

I have a feeling they are as from what I understand the official DVD has the Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure title card. The LD rip I have is as I watched it as aired “An Ewok Adventure”.

I ripped them from my buddies LD’s long ago to my old Terrapin DVD recorder via S-Video, I’ll dig them up as just now checked and I do not have them on my SATA drives so I’ll dig up the IDE drives and DVD’s

I found the RAW Terrapin DVD’s burned to Tayio Yuden’s in 2004(?) so I was able to rip them - not the greatest quality but I do recall using the two hour mode/

So is anyone still after these?
