I figured it was time for a thread that focused only on the NON-STAR WARS Fan Edits so here it is – PLEASE feel free to add edits that you have or have created here in this thread.

I’ll add more titles to my below list as I add them to my personal collection; once added the list will be update with all the details and specifications as I can. And as always if you catch any errors please let me know so the information can be updated.

I’m always looking for new Fan Edits to add to my collection and I’ll upload any edits that are mailed to me to help get them out there and trades are always welcome so drop me an email if you’d like to trade (email addy below)

Blade Runner - The ADM Fan Edit V.2

The opening (through the "flyover" sequence) was sourced from the official Directors Cut DVD mainly to improve the legibility of the opening crawl and opening credits. Then from the first scene with Leon, the source is the Criterion Laserdisc (aka “The International Cut”). The ending was also sourced from the DVD because the music comes in more abruptly with the happy ending now chopped off. Along with the unicorn dream - The Unicorn sequence lent nothing to the story, other than for Ridley Scott to play to the afterthought that Deckard may not be who he thinks he is; plus, again, it makes the credits more legible. Other than that, the narration and extended "ultra-violent" scenes are preserved by using the Criterion Laserdisc Edition.

Everybody knows what was wrong with E.T.'s special edition. Political correctness run amok and CG-E.T.’s were more heretical than anything Lucas has done to Star Wars. However, the inclusion of a couple deleted scenes was novel, and many of the optical effects were cleaned up to improve the movie. The editor has taken what was good about the special edition and leave the rest out.

Hannibal: Desserts Served With Your Main Course

After re-editing the Star Wars saga to his own satisfaction, fan editor ADigitalMan began looking at other films he has appreciated over the years and, where possible through the availability of good supplemental material, has extended them through the judicious
addition of deleted scenes and alternate takes.

Here he has attempted to create an alternate cut of Hannibal, the adaptation by acclaimed director Ridley Scott of Thomas Harris' controversial follow-up to Silence of the Lambs. ADigitalMan has integrated over a dozen deleted scenes to bring the running time around 2:30. In an attempt to make the movie fit better as a sequel to Silence, it was imperative to restore Clarice's trip to the dungeon as she looks for clues to the whereabouts of her old nemesis. Meanwhile, as Hannibal sets up Inspector Pazzi in Florence for the ultimate tribute to Pazzi's infamous ancestor, he can't help but offer advice about another serial murderer terrorizing historic Florence. And while "Il Mostro" isn't as central a figure as "The Tooth Fairy" or "Buffalo Bill" were in the previous stories, we come to know that Hannibal may indeed know more about the killer than he is letting on. More important exposition is restored as well, including the fate of Jack Crawford, the escape of Hannibal from Florence, and the moment of clarity for Hannibal when he fixates on Paul Krendler in the final act.

Finally, a custom modified version of the alternate ending is presented here, with more subtlety and grace than the theatrical cut or even the supplement allowed. Love or hate this sequel to Silence, there is no denying that Ridley Scott did a masterful job with what he had to work with (even correcting the greatest sin of the novel by outright changing the book's universally-deplored ending). A film rich in visual depth, both in the old world and the new, this edit merely goes to enhance a beautiful romantic art film. It's merely incidental that the unrequited love is between serial killer who eats his victims and the agent tracking him.

And so, ADigitalMan presents and extended alternate cut for you entitled "Hannibal: Desserts Served with Your Main Course." Get out the fine china and crystal, enjoy all the goodies you are treated to during this feast of a film, and prepare for the most cerebral dinner party you will ever experience.

Lang song was supposed to be there from the get go, as evidenced by the fact that it actually ties in with the musical score the way all the other Bond films do.

Everything that has a beginning... may not have a disappointing end. But the Matrix Trilogy had a very disappointing end.

Reloaded was nothing compared to The Matrix and Revolutions even nothing compared to Reloaded... Pathetic. That is why we made this edition. We did watch the movies over and over, sensing there was quality in them, but so many things were distracting, did not make much sense, and were just boring to watch.

Then Boon came up with the idea to leave out Zion at all, to never have Morpheus speech, nor the great battle, not the dance scene, not the prime minister and especially no Commander Locke. We thought about it a lot and we came to the result, he was right. Zion had to be left out of the sequels to get a better movie and it would be possible to do that without destroying the plot, because all major and important actions happen to be at other locations than Zion. We also shortened lots of other scenes we did not like or thought to be not fitting, e.g. the dream sequence beginning, where Trinity falls out of the window. Although this scene was great action, it just was not thrilling and as it is repeated later on, we just deleted it (in fact we put this scene to the point, when it actually happened and deleted the shortened version there). Of course we thought about plenty other scenes to leave out, e.g. the Indian family in the beginning of Revolutions, but we decided it was good to have that for mood and plot. All in all it took us several months to think about which scenes to keep and which one to cut.

Superman II: The Restored International Cut

This project began as a fan edit - The hope was to recut the film to make it feel more like Donner's "Superman the Movie." Before work could seriously begin, the extended TV broadcasts needed to be acquired to include some of those great Donner moments that didn't make it into the theatrical cut.

There would always be those hard-core fans that would want to see everything. So with the support of fans and friends from around the globe, the fan edit was put aside, and the business of restoring the entire film began. It took about 2 years to acquire the footage, and make it watchable, but the results were less than satisfying. The word once again went out for extended broadcasts, and both Bill Williams and Jonathan Hoyle answered the call. The choice wasn't easy, but after a lot of scrutiny, Bill's footage was the actual source chosen to improve RIC. But special thanks to Jonathan for sending his original master as well.

It's been said many times, this film will never win any quality awards. The footage supplied came from home recordings. So anyone expecting amazing detail and clarity will be sorely disappointed. But if you've seen any version of the extended broadcasts, you'll probably appreciate the way it's presented here. Great care has been taken to make the film as watchable as possible, no commercials, no subtitles, no station ID's. Thanks to the generous help of a very talented individual, even the audio got a polishing as well.

The final two disc RIC DVD set contains:
- The complete two hour, twenty-six minute version of the film.
- An on-screen commentary track, detailing what footage Donner shot, and other RIC trivia.
- Long out of print documentary "The Making of Superman II."
- Long out of print "Superman II Soundtrack."
- "Lost Scene Gallery" - features pictures of Donner's unreleased work on Superman II.
- "Restoration Demonstration" - features before and after footage samples.
- Complete RIC artwork folder with printable Cover and Disc art in TIFF file format.

Willard: The Ratman’s Cut

Fan edit based on the workprint version of the film – Willard is one of the most underrated remake films ever and this edit only makes it sweeter - the edits are near seamlessly cut into the film and really do add to the overall dark gothic feel and is a MUST HAVE if you enjoyed the remake or the original 1971 film.

ADDITIONS:
*A long scene between Willard and Cathryn at the office, working after hours.
*A scene of Willard's mother almost catching him as he's leaving to sic the rats on Mr. Martin's car.

ALTERATIONS:
*An alternate shot featuring Mr. Martin's assistant cursing the fact she has to give him a foot massage.
*Mr. Martin is now seen attending Willard's mother's funeral.
*The original version of Willard getting fired is re-instated. This features harsher language by Mr. Martin.
*Longer scene of Cathryn in the bathroom, and Willard finding Scully the cat's mutilated corpse.
*An extended version of the ending.

The Wizard of Oz: The ADM Special Extended Edition

For those of you with the official DVD or special edition Laserdisc, you'll know from the supplements that the Scarecrow had an extended dance sequence during "If I Only Had A Brain" that mirror's what the Tin Man did in the following scene. It was choreographed by none other than the great Busby Berkeley. Unfortunately it was lopped out (with other things) to improve the run time (it was about three and a half minutes itself). When the movie was restored, a pristine copy of this number was still in the vaults and restored along with it, though not reinstated. Rather, it was just one gorgeous piece of supplemental material.
I think Busby Berkeley is smiling somewhere right now. Also featured on this disc as a second audio track is Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon when selected it creates what has been called the “Dark Side of Oz” synchronicity - DVD Easter egg is “Echoes: Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite” this is a synchronicity of the film 2001: A Space Odyssey and Pink Floyd’s Echoes from the album Meddle.

COMPOSITE EDITS
A Composite Edit is not really a fan edit but is the result of combining multiple sources of media (i.e. home recorded VHS, retail copies of VHS, Betamax, Laserdisc and DVD’s) in order to recreate a lost workprint or alternate version of the film. The quality of these composites can truly vary from near DVD quality to sub standard VHS and in some cases you’ll get a combination of sources on one DVD; so it’ll be widescreen with nice quality then it will suddenly jump to fullscreen with poor quality.




Superman: The Movie - The International Salkind Extended Cut – COMPOSITE EDIT

This alternate fan edited COMPOSITE version includes all the known footage spliced together from the official DVD, home recorded & retail VHS tapes and the Letterboxed Laserdisc.

As the film and its sequels enjoyed its popularity in the early 1980’s, producers Alexander and Ilya Salkind took it upon themselves to prepare the film for its eventual television broadcast. In order to market the film to television stations around the world, the Salkinds re-edited the film with approximately 45 minutes of additional footage not released in theaters. Whereas Richard Donner had complete directorial control in editing the film for theatrical release, the Salkinds had control of the film for international distribution and television marketing, and the film was re-edited without Donner’s approval. The added footage brought the running time of the film to 188 minutes, the longest known version of the film to be assembled and shown to audiences around the world on public television.

In addition to the many added scenes, a number of musical cues from John Williams’ original soundtrack were restored to the film, some of them not heard in the theatrical release of the film nor on the popular two-disc soundtrack album. Additional cues underscoring scenes on Krypton, the planet’s destruction, and Otis’ journey through the Metropolis subway tunnels were heard for the first time, while other cues underscoring the launch of Kal-El’s starship, Superman intercepting and hurling the missile into space, the aftershocks of the earthquake, and Superman in action, all previously heard on the original soundtrack album, were restored to the context of the film. As some scenes where grabbed from the LD, you will see these segments with the original sound. These moments are very subtle at best, but they are prevalent during the latter portion of the earthquake segments, starting from the point where Lois tries to start her car and begins falling into the cracks.

Halloween VI: The Producers Cut - COMPOSITE EDIT

"The Producers Cut", has never been officially released due to the untimely death of the late Donald Pleasance, as the Director decided to cut scenes and re-shoot the ending.
This cut features those scenes skillfully edited back into the film utilizing the official DVD version of the film. The lost footage was sourced from an unauthorized VHS copy and contains approx. 45 minutes of alternate footage.

The ONLY reason I even did the KILL BILL Vol. 1 - is that you cannot PLAY the Japanese DVD on RETAIL US DVD players.

Yes, I know that you can hack or use a region free player (I have three) but out of all my friends and family only 2 have players that can play my non-region 1 DVD's (bought from eBay and online) and everyone I know wants to borrow my DVD all the time for the color scene and extra blood (I won't copy the DVD outright or strip the region code) SO, I just ripped the DVD to a 4.2 gig AVI then converted it a 2nd Pass 16x9 MPEG2 (via wizard settings) - the menus have been change as not to confuse it with an official release and the video/audio have been re-encoded (with forced subtitles) and are intentionally not as sharp as the retail DVD as not to replace buying the import DVD.

Word to the Spookies...

- No, this is not a straight bootleg of the Japanese DVD, you can order that if you can play region 2

- Yes, I've added forced yellow subtitles; so when Japanese is spoken subtitles appear

- Yes, there are no DTS or AC3 audio tracks not in favor of MPEG but I cannot afford Dolby Digital software (I use FREE programs)

- I use TMPGEnc with 2nd pass VBR; and I have NO idea how to make PERFECT settings that would leave room for menus (so I use the encoders wizard) & 3.76GB is the size it came out when encoded

Completely disagree. There is VERY little changed between the original cut and the directors cut but what IS changed is a lot better. I'll be posting my dual-layer version soon.


- The VOICE OVER IS GONE that's not a major change? - IT REALLY changes the feel of the movie IMHO

THX, I wouldn't use the original laserdisc for anything more than the original audio tracks. I would use the new DVD for the video tracks. And then use Rikter's new version of the TV cut for the extra footage. But..alas...not enough hours in the day.

DigitalfreckNYC - Mine is the REAL Superman: The Movie - The International Salkind Cut as it really really honestly aired and AS produced by the SALKINDS. The version that you have is the attempt (by editing the laserdisc, VHS and recorded VHS footage into a Composite cut) to recreate the version that I now have (and will be uploading – once the menus are done ) AGAIN the quality is not DVD or LD but it looks SUPER GREAT for a 20+ years VHS copy

This is it, the REAL deal no spliced in footage or edits - this is the version that the Salkinds produced for the European release and includes the MOST footage and is the LONGEST known version of Superman: The Movie known (at this time that is )

The original laserdisc was Criterion's number one selling title for more than a few years, now it’s been transferred to DVD. The International Cut contains graphic violence excluded from both the original theatrical version and the directors cut. The added violence makes this version about 15 seconds longer than the US theatrical release.

Superman: The Movie - The International Salkind Cut (NON-Composite)
Angrysun DVD authoring & PAL to NTSC of a Darth Anonymous VHS transfer

Running Time: 188 minutes (NTSC)

This alternate and VERY, VERY rare Recorded as aired NON-composite version includes all known footage. As the film and its sequels enjoyed its popularity in the early 1980’s, producers Alexander and Ilya Salkind took it upon themselves to prepare the film for its eventual television broadcast. In order to market the film to television stations around the world, the Salkinds re-edited the film with approximately 45 minutes of additional footage not released in theaters. Whereas Richard Donner had complete directorial control in editing the film for theatrical release, the Salkinds had control of the film for international distribution and television marketing, and the film was re-edited without Donner’s approval. The added footage brought the running time of the film to 188 minutes, the longest known version of the film to be assembled and shown to audiences around the world.

In addition to the many added scenes, a number of musical cues from John Williams’ original soundtrack were restored to the film, some of them not heard in the theatrical release of the film nor on the popular two-disc soundtrack album. Additional cues underscoring scenes on Krypton, the planet’s destruction, and Otis’ journey through the Metropolis subway tunnels were heard for the first time, while other cues underscoring the launch of Kal-El’s starship, Superman intercepting and hurling the missile into space, the aftershocks of the earthquake, and Superman in action, all previously heard on the original soundtrack album, were restored to the context of the film.

Produced in 2000 by Nobles Gate Ltd. for Channel 4 was directed by Andrew Abbott and hosted/written by Mark Kermode, and will be included in the Special Edition. Interviews with production staff, including Ridley give details into the creative process and turmoil during preproduction. Stories from Paul M. Sammon and Fancher provide insight into Philip K. Dick and the origins of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Interweaved are cast interviews with the notable exceptions of Harrison Ford and Sean Young. Through these interviews we get a sense of how difficult and frustrating the film was to make as a result of an exacting director without allies and hot, wet, smoggy conditions; which added to the high pressure atmosphere everyone increasingly felt as the film went over budget. There is also a tour of some locations, most notably the Bradbury Building and the Warner Brothers backlot that was the LA 2019 streets, which look very different from Ridley's dark version.

The documentary then details the test screenings postproduction editing/changes (voice over and happy ending, deleted Holden hospital scene), special effects, soundtrack by Vangelis, and the unhappy relationship between the filmmakers and the investors; which culminated in Deeley and Ridley being fired but still working on the film. The question of whether or not Deckard is a replicant surfaces. After being a "disaster" in the box office (a financial loss initially) Blade Runner was reborn in the video rental market, and a great reception of a chance screening of Ridley's workprint at the Fairfax Theater, Los Angeles, in May 1990 led to Warner Bros. having the "Director's Cut" done by film archivist Michael Arick
