1. CD tray jams quite often. Then I have to pull it out, close the CD opening, power cycle the printer and wait for the self test to start it again.
they help ALOT! The old design has a flimsy plastic alignment thingy at the front that wears out real fast or if you drop the tray it can fold or break rendering the tray useless by making it jam or not load without a little help.
2. If I tell two CD's to print, it errors out at the end of the first one, instead of pausing me and asking me to switch CDs.
- Sorry, I've never tried to print more then 1 at a time. My brother’s old employers had a sweet auto-loader like the one pictured here.
3. The ink is damned expensive. $13 for each color (5 total), $15 for black. For the price of all 6 ink cartrdges I could buy a new printer, and dinner.
- You can either adapt a CIS system or refillable cartridges, I suggest the refillable cartridges!!! I use
Strategic ink in my R300 CIS system which I only use for reproducing automotive service manuals and concert flyers and I now use refillable carts in my R200 for covers and daily printing. You can also check out this site
MEGATONERS.COM they have carts for $2.25 a cart, fair ink (not as good as the Epson or Strategic) the colors are bright but the black ink is hit or miss (sometimes it’s that reddish color
) so I suggest Ridisc inks if you go the “cheap” cart route. But the
refillable type rule!!! (I’ve not used this guys carts but you get the idea)
4. Everytime you replace one ink cartridge, it runs a test that uses up 5% of the ink out of each of the OTHER five cartridges. That's the equivalent of 1/4 of a cartridge wasted with each change. And I've had situations where one cartridge had to be changed, while a couple other were at 5 and 10%. So I replaced the cartridge, then after the test it told me I had to replace the one that used to be at 5%. I replaced that and then I had to replace the one that was originally at 10%. Rediculous.

LAWSUIT! because of this and a few other issues.
5. If you are out of any one color ink cartridge, you CANNOT print in black/white. It will just refuse to print until you replace the color cartridge.
- THAT sucks!! I’ve never run out of ink so I’ve not had that happen but regardless that bites my old HP would keep on printing!!
6. It has an internal counter so that after you've printed a certain amount it will stop functioning until you take it to a repair shop.
but it is a fantastic idea as the best thing from the PT is the score.
