Ah, I see the logic behind that now.

I just "completed" my Ito Shogi-inspired version, so it needs only to be playtested and tweaked (hopefully). Next I will make two versions of Ito Shogi, one with weaker and one with stronger pieces. Man, isn't making new variants fun? :)
OK, thanks. You changed it quite a bit though. I looked it up and the original piece doesn't have any single square orthogonal move normally. Not that I'm complaining, since its move would otherwise be the same as the heavenly horse in Ito Shogi.
Which Shogi variant is the cavalryman from? I just want to know what its original move is, but I'm not having any luck finding it.
April 3:
A.D. 1043: Edward the Confessor is crowned king of England.
A.D. 1657: Lord Protector Cromwell refuses an offer of the English crown.
A.D. 1882: The American outlaw, Jesse James, is killed.
A.D. 1973: The first cell-phone call is made.

Hopefully my luck holds.
Most of the armies in the version I linked to don't look that great (and certainly not balanced in many cases), but I'd have to play a game to really judge that for sure.
No, you didn't disappoint me, and assuming you're referring to the loss of my DH, something bad had to happen to me sometime....

I assume there have been multiple versions of the game that have been invented, so I mean that we need to check that we have the same files so that we're able to play the appropriate armies. I wasn't sure if there were multiple Zillions variants with different armies. As far as I can tell, the Zillions file always has white as the regular army, and there is no such thing as the Fabulous FIDEs. That's why I wanted to check. :)
Here's the link to the Zillions version I downloaded (it has all sorts of different armies) since I think you have something else:

If you think the one you have is better, than link me to it. If they're the same then I guess my observation skills need improvement, but let me know either way.
Oops, I moved your gold general to 6b instead of 5b, so I thought I had a better chance of escaping than I did. There wasn't a lot I could do anyway, so I'm OK with that.

Not having read any Star Wars books in quite some time, this thread hasn't been bumped and no one has posted in it:
For those reading this thread who have read Star Wars books, please review them and rate them in that thread for the benefit of others on this forum. I'll copy your review to my first post so that people can easily find the review they're looking for, and sort the books alphabetically if people actually bother to use the thread.
No, there wasn't a lot of self-capturing, though it can be a nice option to have. I'm fine with Chess with Different Armies, but we'd better make sure we get the same versions, or things could get confusing. ;)
I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying the game now, even if it still isn't going that well for you (other than the fact that my DH doesn't stand much of a chance now). If you slip up though, my DH will escape and then you'll be even worse off than before.

I guess I shouldn't have been so greedy. :P I could have escaped without a problem.

I'm sorry about it (not really).

I looked back on the last few turns, and it doesn't look like there were any really advantageous moves to make. All of them were worse than this one, so moving my DH earlier wouldn't have helped me much.

April 2:
A.D. 999: Gerbert of Aurillac is elected as Pope--the first from France.
A.D. 1453: Sultan Mehmet II begins his siege of Constantinople, which is the first successful one on the city.
A.D. 1800: The first performance of Beethoven's first symphony.
A.D. 1902: The first movie theatre opens (in Los Angeles).
That's good! I'm not generally a fan of electric guitar, but that's one piece I liked. :)

No, I wasn't trying to be merciful. I wanted to get my gold general close to my king and didn't realize how quickly you'd be able to corner my DH. I can't say I tried very hard to protect it though....
