I hate you, Activision. An add-on to your game that brings four survivors into a zombie apolocypse: been done. But make them celebrities and no one points out that we have a few of these exact games already, and they're not tacked onto this year's crappy war game.
I'm not a COD fan at all, but HOLY SHIT THAT LOOKS AWESOME [/super nerd out]

The Death Star explosion seems strange,
Although I don't know any technical reasons as to why or anything, I agree, I thought it looked strange. Everything else was just beautiful though.
Too old for my tastes ;-)
Speaking of, is that you in that gif, Frink?
Yes.
But also, think about people that want to show the trilogy to their kids for the first time. I was born in 1986, and when I was about 8 or 9 my dad showed me the OT for the first time, and I loved it. I specifically remember the end of ESB being such an awesome moment that I would reenact the scene with my plastic robot hand toy again and again.
So although "Luke I am your father" is one of the most famous lines in pop culture history, not many 10-year-olds know or care about pop culture. Plus, without any background knowledge of Star Wars, I doubt hearing the quote out of context would spoil it for any kids.
I know that when I have kids, I'd love to show them Adywan's complete revisited series, 1-6, and have them be in awe just as I was.
Oops! (1999)
"Late one evening a woman enters a near-deserted underground carpark and discovers a strange man attempting to break into her beloved black Mini. When a broken pay phone foils her bid to call for help she decides to fight back. Utilizing various grocer items she launches an attack on the would-be thief. After a bitter struggle she eventually prevails, only to discover her actions may have been a little hasty."
THE BEATLES
Caught On Tape! #1 (1963–1964)
I've been listening to this new collection of informal recordings put together by asterisk8 and it is really awesome. He announced it over here, go check it out!

That's way funnier than it sounded in writing, nice job greeny
Not according to War of the Stars
How much ketchup you got over there?
What is this adventure rated, greeny, because it certainly doesn't look like it will end well for little orphan annie..
Hey xhonzi, how about editing the OP with "up to episode X discussion/spoilers" whenever we move on? A mystery show is the last thing anyone wants to get spoiled!
*edit: awesome, thanks :)
I just got ahold of the whole first season - starting the show proper soon, and very excited about it.
Stoner Easter Bunny?
From someone without any technical knowledge/background in editing, I think the FF effect works really well!
Just got a copy, and I have to say, this is just awesome. Any Beatles fan will love this, aficionados especially. The first half features a lot of solo guitar that is just beautiful, and the second half demonstrates more of their songwriting. It's really interesting to hear the Beatles hard at work writing early versions of Michelle, If I Fell, and Don't Bother Me at such young ages. The songs are all very clean and sounds great; obviously a lot of work went into putting this together. Even the insane Bible readings are an interesting listen to say the least (somebody was poppin Prellies)!
All the files are FLAC, which posed a problem at first, but I found this program called xrecode and changed them to mp3 fairly easily.
I haven't been a collector of Beatles recordings in the past, but after reading the release notes I have to say I'm very interested in it now. Gotta say, too, I like the idea of releasing CDs that you can actually listen to instead of just collect, and I can't wait to hear the rest of this set when it comes out!
As a side note, I have the Beatles full discography, LIB Naked, Past Masters, Love, Live at the BBC, the Anthology discs, and now your collection, asterisk. Would you recommend anything else on top of all that to round out the collection (besides repetitive/unlistenable stuff)?
Thanks again!
That thread is so full of lols
I watched this very late at night a few days ago and never got around to writing about it, so this is all from memory. Here goes nothin'.
The first thing that really caught my attention was the music. It's beautiful and haunting, and creates quite the aura of mystery around the show. I can't remember the last time I liked a TV show's soundtrack so much.
I loved the slow reveals of Laura's death to the different characters. Each character had their own emotional response that was very believable, which I think is a credit to both the acting and directing, but in this case it's more due to directing. Lynch takes his time to the extreme degree. Since there is a limited amount of time to tell a story with the TV format, things tend to get rushed, and there isn't really time to explore character revelations to such a degree. Whedon was very good at doing just that in his episodes (see Buffy 5.16 "The Body"), but it's nothing compared to this. The show was very visually stunning as well, with a lot of cool angles and tracking shots and such. Just a couple examples. It was much more like a movie than a TV show, almost like watching a Twilight Zone episode.
The leisurely pace also helped heighten the mystery. The whole time all I wanted was to hear the whole story - who is Laura Palmer, who are her friends, what happened to her, why does she have that lockbox with porn! I just want to know it all now! It reminded me of Veronica Mars a LOT in that way, but VM is way more of a fast-paced show. Still, I can see how much it drew from Twin Peaks just from the pilot alone (P.S., if you've never seen Veronica Mars, do yourself a favor and watch it now).
Other thoughts:
That is all for now, what do you think? Anyone else still planning on keeping up with the tipswock? Or is this just a practice in futility...
HOLY-----
You are some kind of warlock, Harmy. That's amazing.
^ classic!
My 18yo cousin has never seen any Star Wars, and I've finally convinced him to check them out with me. I think I'll show him these:
I'm not sure what to do about the PT, but he's only 18 so I think I'll show him the theatrical cuts, as Puggo so elegantly put it, shrapnel and all.
Awesome avatar, FunkyDays, and great song - I love Animal Collective, but I didn't even know that album had come out yet, thanks!

Joss Whedon addresses the i09 March Madness poll in a recent New York Times interview. Keep in mind almost everything he says should be read with heavy irony. Linky.
Q.Did you happen to keep up with the March Madness tournament on io9.com, in which readers voted “Serenity” the top fantasy film of all time, over “The Empire Strikes Back”?A.I have been alerted to this fact by certain of my friends. When I saw us going up against “Empire Strikes Back,” all I could think was, “Oh, they’re gonna hate it. They’re gonna hate us. They’re gonna call our fans names.” But while “Empire Strikes Back” is for me the more seminal film, “Serenity” at least has an ending. I don’t know when “The Matrix” got voted down – that’s my favorite. It is starting to be a double-edged sword. There’s no greater sadness than not still being on board that ship with that crew, in my career. All I can think is, maybe someday, someone at Universal will say, “Hey, we made money. Let’s do that again.” So I’m glad that it lives. But I also know that every time it gets in one of those polls, against beloved movies, we just get flamed. I feel sad, too.Q.It’s like being a parent, and letting your child find its way in the world.A.I can’t control how beautiful and popular my child is. What can I do?
Yeah, sorry, edited my first post. Go watch it now!

Wow, I never knew that Chloe from 24 was a comedian...
You mean Gail the Snail? Comedy is her forté if you ask me.
Frink speaks truth, and I believe it's where she got her start.

I want to say that the director commentary addresses the "ambiguity" of the piece.
If not, then I guess you both are just wrong. :)
In other words, watch it again and try to see it as "all a lie" to convince him. I think you'll find that it plays that way to the degree that there is no really conclusive evidence against it.
But you can go debate it on the imdb forums too, if you'd like. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1130884/board/
After watching it and paying close attention, there are so many moments in the movie that you think are working towards the "all a lie" outcome, only they work much, much more towards the "he's crazy" outcome once you realize what's going on.
For example, when Dr. Cawley (Kingsley) first meets Teddy, he mentions that Rachel Solando's children drowned, and looks carefully at Teddy/Andrew just as he says the word "drowned". Watch the guards, and their behavior around Teddy, especially in the beginning. When Teddy sits in on the board meeting the members are clearly annoyed that a patient has been allowed in, and one of them even jokes about how clever the rule of four is, only to get an angry glance from Dr. Crawly. Also, when the warden and Teddy are in the car alone, the warden mentions that Dr. Crawly thinks he (Andrew) can be cured but he does not. They have that long talk about "violence" and such, and it really doesn't make sense in the "all a lie" viewpoint. There are other, very obvious clues, just watch it again.
One HUGE clue is the theme of fire and water. Fire represents Andrew's insanity - the matches in Ward C, Rachel's fire in the cave, blowing up a car, etc. - while water represents the reality that he's trying to hide from - his wife drowning his children in it and all. A big clue that Rachel Solando was completely a figment of his imagination.
