Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)
Time
The crawl is finished. I've rendered and encoded this puppy like six or seven times tonight trying to get the best result. I feel that I have that now and so I will be looking to get this file uploaded for you TM. I may even be able to get this uploaded for you by tomorrow if I can get over to my brother-in-law's house tomorrow and get access to his DSL. I'll let you know either way, but definetly be looking for it in the next couple of days.

The crawl is done 2:35.1 widescreen with black bars burned in. I figured if I burned them in that you could have a choice of whether you wanted to go straight widescreen, i.e. letterbox, or anamorphic widescreen and crop the borders.

I also put a couple of black frames before STAR WARS bursts onto teh screen. Just in case the program you are using misinterprets the footage and shaves a few frames at the beginning...now you should be covered. I also left you about 15 seconds of just space after the crawl has faded out so you would have more than enough to work to blend this footage with your own.

I'll PM you with the link to the file and I'll post here to telling you that the file is ready.

Have fun.

Star Wars: The Interactive Video Board Game (1996, Parker) (* unfinished project *)

Aha! I thought I might still have the article about this. For the record, it is the voice of James Earl Jones.

Here it is:

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a8/Rebel11_38/Hasbrocopy.jpg

Dave Prowse Goes Back Under the Mask

Last summer in London, David Prowse donned Vader's helmet for a special shooting of footage for a new Hasbro European Star Wars board game called Star Wars: The Interactive Video Board Game. Hasbro spared no expense to bring back the original for the shoot. "They wanted it to be as authentic and as close to the film as could be," says ILM's Nelson Hall, who served as costume supervisor and Lucasfilm liaison on the shoot. Hasrbo utilized all original costumes and props, hired the original set-makers, Dick Geroge Productions, to create the scene, and even coaxed original Star Wars cinematographer Gil Taylor, now in his 80s, out of retirement to shoot the footage. They even procured James Earl Jones to do Vader's voice.
In the game each player leads an assault on the Death Star. Game pieces are moved around the board as players get closer and closer to the Death Star's reactor shaft in hopes of disabling it. While the game is being played, an hour-long videotape plays a shot of the Death Star approaching a Rebel Planet. At completely inopportune moments the exclusive new footage of Vader suddenly interrupts the gameplay with severe repercussions for the players.
Currently the American release of the game is planned for the fourth quarter of '96 as a Toys 'R Us exclusive.

I remember reading something about it a while back. It was completely new footage captured just for that game. It was Dave Prowse in the suit, but I don't know if it was JEJ. I got confused before thinking of the energizer bunny commercial in which they again filmed all new footage and had someone (not Dave Prowse) in the Darth Vader suit. I think I read about it in an old Star Wars Insider magazine. It would be great if someone could capture that from the tape.

I wish I could get the uppercase ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC all on one line, but no amount of formatting is really going to make that look right.

In the last variant I changed the word "returning" to "traveling." If you say returning, the question is from where. Well, you can say she's returning from Naboo...but why would you say returning? Did she recently leave and now she is coming back? Or is Coruscant her home? See, it doesn't make as much sense to say returning or returns. TM did have "en route," and while it conveys the idea, I agree that it is a bit clumsy to use in a title crawl.

I just looked at the official ep. II crawl and it does the same thing with the word "returning;" it isn't given any sort of context. I thought I remembered seeing the official crawl saying something about Padme returning for the first time in ten years, but after I looked at it I realized I was thinking of the Clone War by MagnoliaFan. He was first person to use the word "returning" and have it actually mean something!

Star Wars DVD Covers
Time
Coov -

First let me say that I love your covers! I don't think you've ever made a set that I didn't think was fantastic.

Secondly, I was wondering if you took suggestions and/or requests. Looking at the Prequel covers above I had an idea for something else you could do with them. You have a pic of Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan vs. Darth Maul on the Ep. I cover and you have a pic of Anakin vs. Obi-Wan on the Ep. III cover. What if you put a pic of Anakin and Obi-Wan vs. Count Dooku on the Ep. II cover? They would all tie together that way, and as it is I think the Ep. II is just a little bit more bland then the other covers. You could even carry the lightsaber duels idea into the OT. You could have a pic of Obi-Wan vs. Darth Vader for Ep. IV, a pic of Luke vs. Dath Vader for Ep. V, and a pic of Luke vs. Darth Vader in front of the Emperor for Ep. VI. Just an idea.

The other thing that would be cool to see is the gradual fade of the color you did for the OT covers done for the PT covers. I liked your OT covers best, and I think that was part of the reason why. Like I said, I would like to see it if you could make 'em, but I understand if you don't like to do requests or you're just too busy right now.

Finally, just want to encourage you to keep doing what you're doing. Your work is simply terrific!

Okay, I changed the final paragraph to what you asked for TM.

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a8/Rebel11_38/returning.jpg

I believe "is returning" would be the correct way to say it in this context. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but saying "Queen Amidala, now serving as Senator of Naboo, returns to Coruscant to vote..." doesn't sound right. I can change it if you don't like it TM.

This is what it looks like with "returns:"

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a8/Rebel11_38/returns2.jpg

Whether or not Senator should be capatalized depends on what the title means, I guess. I capatalized it because I was making it an important title, akin to her royal title. If a queen is going to become a senator, I don't think she is just going to be a "senator," she is going to be THE "Senator." So, when you read it in the crawl, calling her a senator is almost the same as calling her the queen. It's open to interpretation. Again, I'll do it whatever way you want.

I do have one other suggestion. You may want to drop the word "critical" from the last paragraph. If you drop it and "Padme," then it would look like this:

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a8/Rebel11_38/nocritical.jpg

A little tighter and more concise. I think it is implied between the final two paragraphs that the issue is important. Not really necessary to say it, but it's up to you.

Hal 9000 - I should be able to help you out. Right now, I am doing this for Trooperman and I may be doing another for klokwerk soon as well. But, depending on what my work schedule is like next week, and when I finish refining my receding Star Wars, I may have time to do it early next week. Let me know exactly what you need.

Okay, this post is picture heavy and might take a while to load for dial-up users like myself, but I wanted people to be able to see the differences in what we're talking about here.

I changed my mind and decided that I like "Ten years after Palpatine's rise to power in the Galactic Senate," best since it links what the state of the galaxy was before Palpatine took over and what it's like now better than "rose to power" does.

I am going to state my case as to why certain elements would make a bit more sense or sound better one way or the other. So, here we go.

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a8/Rebel11_38/assumed1.jpg

Assumed Leadership of

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a8/Rebel11_38/gained1.jpg

Gained Power Over

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a8/Rebel11_38/Rose1.jpg

Rose to power

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a8/Rebel11_38/Rise1.jpg

Rise to power

Like I said before, I think "rise" gives a you a better sense of the what the past was like. I also like it better than "gained power over" since the phrase seems a little weak dramatically. I think "rise to power" has a more sinister tone to it which is fitting when talking about Palpatine. Oh, and "assumed leadership of" is too straight forward; no undertone of evil at all.

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a8/Rebel11_38/QA1.jpg

This final paragraph is what you asked for.

I think the spacing issue won't be an issue anymore. Whatever elements you decide to go with I should be able to make work.

I'll see what I can do to incorporate the changes you want TM.

Ric - That's a good point. If you're going to call her the "Queen" then it should be preceded by the word "Former."

Former Queen Padme' Amidala,
now serving as senator of Naboo,
is en route to Coruscant to vote
on the critical issue of creating
an ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC to
support the overwhelmed Jedi....

Here is a pic of the first paragraph so you can see the spacing.

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a8/Rebel11_38/4.jpg

As far the last line being justified goes, that happens on a few of the official title crawls. The last line of the first paragraph of the episode II title crawl, the last line of the of the last paragraph of the episode IV title crawl and the last line of the last paragraph of the episode V title crawl are all justified the same as the rest of the paragraph. It seems the rule is when the last line is four or more medium size words big, then it is justified.

I don't care much for the separation of "en route" either, but I can't move "route" up a line, and if I move "en" down, then it creates more of the spacey-ness in the line above it that Trooperman doesn't like.

It's up to him. If he wants me to change it I will.

I edited the pictures above to reflect your requests.

I changed the color of the test shots, let me know if you want the color tweaked a little more in one way or another.

Do you need to a shot of the STAR WARS receding into the background too? I kind of figure that you would since you want a specific color and the fact that the stars are going to be flipped. If you need this as well let me know.

I tried to make the justification a bit more to your liking, but with the wording it is hard to avoid the spacey-ness. I hope it is okay.

It's not necessary to include me in the credits. Just helping out.

I couldnt sleep tonight and so I had some extra time on my hands. I went ahead and made some mock-ups of Trooperman's crawl for y'all to look over. I honestly haven't read this whole thread and there may be quite a bit that Trooperman has changed since he posted his example crawl, but it was what I used to get the wording.

Let me know what you think. I think I remember reading that there wasn't going to be an episode number which would be easily fixed, but wasn't there something about changing the pan in the beginning? I thought Trooperman was going to change it so the camera panned down instead of up, then again my memory may be playing tricks on me. In case I do remember correctly, I turned the star background upside-down so that it would mesh with the rest of the upside-down video. I can change that too if it is wrong.

Here are the example (re-edited) shots:

Hope they meet with approval.
