Aspect Ratio Adjustment
Time
So let's just say I have "this one movie" (heretofore referred to as "this one movie").

It has been encoded as a DVD and provided for download as a TS_VIDEO folder for easy burning, so everything is fine there. However, "this one movie" has had its aspect ratio changed from 2.35:1 to 1.33:1 at some point in it's capture/encoding process.

Since I'm not looking for anything fancy... no menus, titles, video enhancement or anything... what would be the easiest way to take "this one movie", crop out a black border surrounding the picture, and redo the aspect ratio to 2.35:1, adding in the black bars at the top and bottom (so as to make it a better fit for a non-widescreen television) and reencode it for easy burning on DVD?

I'm looking for simple and fast (I fully understand that the reencoding itself may take some time, however) and prefereably something involving a straight-forward GUI rather then typing in a bunch of numbers that I may get wrong in the process.

Thanks in advance, folks!

(And please excuse me, as this may not exactly fall under the "preservation" category. However, I felt that those who frequent this particular forum would best know the answer to my question.)

Well the only thing I can think of is...

Bruce Campbell (Spiderman 1 & 2) Ted Raimi (Darkman) Liam Neeson

One step though? Man... you'd think being told that up front would make it easy.

Well, I'm not submitting another choice until I come up with the answer 'cause this is driving me crazy. I met the man and can't think of what Star Wars star he was in a movie with... (And I never do IMDB so that option's out.)

*sigh*

Okay... lemme say this a third time, and this time I'll make it really clear.

I am fully aware that TR47 was just the original distributor. I am fully aware that Cowclops is a different person, and did the original transfer. I am also aware that Cowclops is also doing this new transfer, with the help of some hardware donated by TR47.

What I wanna know is who's name I credit as having done the transfer. Does cowclops wanna be called "Cowclops", or "Spanky Pete" or what? Yes, yes, yes... the set will still be called the "TR47 Version", but I still wanna credit the one who actually did the transfer.

Granted, none of this was really probably worth this much trouble, but I just want to give credit to the one who has already given us a copy of Star Wars that has stood for years as the best... and may very well do so again.

(Just to avoid more problems... I would like to state that the "Spanky Pete" bit was a joke. God forbid someone miss that bit of total hilarity and think I was being serious. )

So to recap: Cowclops and TR47, you guys rock. And Cowclops, how do you want to publicly be known?

Yeah, I'm calling them "TR47" for the same reasons of noteriety.

Under the credits area though, I have "Laserdisc tansfer blah blah blah: TR47" though... wondering if that needs to be changed to "Cowclops" now. It's just a matter of specifics that I always seem to involve myself in. Heh.

Great thing about how I have my cover templates set out is that when the new version is available, all I have to do is type "v2.0" and I'm set. Bang.

He was in fact one of the last people on ebay to buy it from me, so ironically the old set will probably be continued to be called the "TR47" set but he only has anything to do with the newer set. He bought a CLD-97 so I could re capture it with much better picture quality.

Okay then... as someone who has made some fairly detailed DVD covers, all of which I try to keep as accurate as I can, what should I call you?

So far I've had "transfer and yadda yadda yadda by TR47" on the covers.... but would you prefer "Cowclops" instead?

Just lemme know what name you want used as I'm polishing up my old cover templates and want to get everything ironed out. (They'll still be called the "TR47 Version", since that's how everyone knows them, but I give props in the credits area to whoever did the actual transfer.)

I'm sorry, but I must say this... screw this forum, and screw the entertainment industry

Okay, well what about people like me who realize that the point of this forum isn't to stop the butchering but to make sure the ORIGINAL CUTS are still available? You, like many people before you, have lost sight of the petitions original purpose. As far as I know it was never about stopping George Lucas from doing anything other than denying us our O-OT.

Admitedly, I've skipped over much of this thread seeing as how it's all just a bunch of stereotypical geek dick-waving. But you need to simmer down a bit and realize that not everyone is here for the same reasons you are. I bought the DVD releases the week they were released, and I don't make any excuses to you or anyone because I don't have to. I never said I was boycotting them and never intended to.

If you intend to stick around with that "fuck you" attitude though... well, I've been absent for a bit so I can only assume this board will still throw you out on your ass eventually.

Hmmmm... you know what? That's an interesting point... sadly, you may be right.

Yeah, monthly donations ARE required. The site's admin has to donate a chunk of cash every month out of pocket to keep the thing running.

You on the other hand have the option to donate a small portion of money to support the gigs and gigs of content made available to you. If you miss a month here or there it's fine, you can still use the service. But the site's admin has to pay every month or the whole thing comes crashing down. All so that you can have a place to download bootlegs. So why is it that you're complaining that he asks for a little help from time to time?

I dunno... seemed like you and I were the biggest supporters.

Maybe we can make a reversable slip cover... y'know, like those cheese-ass jackets from the 80s. Plaid on one side, argyle on the other.

I'm calling dibs on argyle.

Star Wars DVD Covers
Time
It's Halloween time, so with all the shows I'm DJing, my wedding anniversary and even my upcoming baby, I haven't had much of a chance to finish up the other covers I've been designing for my site. As for other people's covers, well... nobody seems to be submitting them (save for a handful of chapter inserts which I still need to post ), so who can say when the collection will grow.
