I want a physical Bible. I want my Bible in leather cover with gold gilding, not some impersonal text on a kindle.

The Bible does not work well on an eBook Reader. But on an app, like the YouVersion app Life.Curch made, it works very well indeed.

I like both. Not either, but both.

Which version? The majority work as an improvised doorstop too.

Textbooks are fairly okay to lug around since I’ve been going back to college since 2012 and books around 300 so pages are reasonable. Not a “Why is this book so massive?” at 1,300? That’s the main issue I have with Stephen King books. Great to buy and collect but inconvenient for the bus. Even though I have The Spy Who Came in From the Cold by John Le Carre (e with accent mark) in my backpack all the time but I also have the epub version too.
AND as I mentioned, majority of my books are still in storage.

But I’m at page 547 of 1041 of Stephen King’s IT.

Stephen King’s IT, Page 423 of 1041. (7 pt. font on Universal Book Reader for Android. Physical book is in storage.)

which font family?

I can’t tell if that’s a serious question. E-Readers usually have multiple selectable fonts.

it wasn’t?

I also don’t understand why you would buy the physical book, but not read it. Reading a physical book is usually faster (according to the random research i have seen, google it yourself). Maybe if RayRogers was reading the book he would be done by now :p

That is intended to be good natured ribbing by the way.

Usually on the bus getting to work and also campus. Even bought the book well over 20 years ago, it’s in storage, and that’s just too much shit to lug around all day, everyday.

Also reading: Who Gives a Flying Fuck? by Handy Wankstein III.

Help Wanted: '2001: A Space Odyssey' - 35mm Preservation (original 1968 prints obtained) (* unfinished project *)

From the MGM first letterbox LD onwards they’ve used 65mm elements.
The BD or any release is a good starting point but it mist be understood that unless you go with the Criterion, corrected MGM LDs or their DVD that there have been slight alterations to color and the sound mix. These are very slight to less so but 99% of people have no idea. It’s not quite as blatant as what happened to the other Warner owned Kubrick titles.
This isn’t to say that any release is perfect but at this stage with Barry Lyndon going to Criterion and not only fixing the aspect ratio, including mono but using the new scan more effectively-it is possible for 2001 to be done correctly.

Would be best if WB handled a 4K remaster theirselves so they could release this also in UHD format too from 70mm source elements. Criterion, for some weird reason, won’t release any titles they’ve scanned 4K resolution or greater on the UHD format.
BUT, A Clockwork Orange also had a 4K remaster but they used the older 2K master for the current 2-Disc BD. Only way to see how the 4K remaster looks is on a documentary on the second disc.

From the Sony 4K remaster and not the Gaumont Besson-approved master? Just bought the UHD two days ago for only $15.

The blu-ray source of this regrade was the Sony 4k remaster.

Sony didn’t even use the OCN for the 4K remaster, right? This is also a BD25? Have tons of blank BD25s.

The Stranger Things Thread
Time

Really enjoyed both Seasons and can’t wait for 3. Max’s step-brother was an asshole and Steve was awesome. Maybe third season will be 10 episodes? Episode 7 could’ve just been within the first 20 minutes then move onward. Managed to watch in 4K resolution.

Spoilers:
Completely thought Paul Reiser’s character would pull a Carter Burke but so glad he didn’t. At least Eleven is now officially Jane Hopper which is nice since Chief Hopper had been taking care of her for almost a year in that cabin/house out of the way. Maybe there’s other children with powers similar to El and 8? Knowing more about Jane’s past was quite empathetic to me too. Demodogs seemed alright, sorta feel bad for Dart even though it ate Dustin’s cat. Was expecting a new variant of the Demogorgon but the Mind Flayer was fairly cool in concept and design. Noticed far more 1980s music compared to Season 1. Agreeing wholeheartedly it feels more of a 1.5 compared to 2 since it was heavily connected still to Season 1. The continuation was well executed but I figured on a few more recurring characters from Season 1 would’ve felt more cohesive. The sub-plot about Barb seemed overly forced and coul’ve been resolved earlier. My take for Season 3 and onward is more in the group will stick together and fight whatever comes through the Upside Down. Loved the last episode, especially the end at the dance.

Maybe 10 episodes or 12 perhaps for Season 3? Hopefully it’ll last longer than the intended 4 or 5 seasons. Would be neat to see the kids get to High School age.

So I still haven’t seen this yet and I was wondering what the best version out there currently is.

70mm is best and not 35mm.

Sorry, I should have specified that I wanted to watch 2001 in the near future and I meant out of the currently available blu-rays and preservations out there, which one is the best.

The Blu-ray was released at the time of the HD physical format wars. The image is from an older scan which is derived from a 35mm source and been used for the DVD which matches it. The PCM is the best for it since it’s uncompressed audio and the features are great. Still waiting for a 4K or greater scan from the OCN of the 70mm print to be used in a later UHD+BD combo.
Honestly don’t know anything at all about the image quality from any preservations. Blu-ray disc of course and also the follow-up, 2010. The books are great too and obviously have differences but the movies are meant to compliment them. 2001, 2010, 2061, and 3001.

Idea: for an "It" fan edit
Time

No, this doesn’t need a Fan Edit at all. Make an Extended Edition instead since the book is terrifying and intense.
The rock war and cleaning up the blood are in the book, but mildly different, which isn’t out of place at all. The most major suggestion is to read the book or listen to the audio version, unabridged. Yes, it’s supposed to be way too intense since the major characters are kids in this half of the adaptation.
The TV mini-series from 1990 omitted many things from the book since it was halved from the intended four episodes down to two. Yes, I would add more, as long as it isn’t redundant or conflict with the source material.
If anything, when both IT: Chapter One and IT: Chapter Two are released onto BD with a ton of deleted scenes and the longer cuts, make a version where it combines both movies to be more similar to the book in format. Of course on separate BD50s.
IT: Chapter One is one of the best Stephen King adaptations out there. This is literally a waste of time for a Fan Edit since it doesn’t need one and I’m certainly not interested.

How did you first see the Star Wars films?
Time

Was at my Grandma’s house back in the early 1980s. She either had a VHS or Laserdisc of Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back. Watched it often. Also remembered seeing Return of the Jedi in cinemas when I was only a lad in 1983. Then one of my friends had both CED and Laserdisc. Was able to finally watch the OG OOT in OAR while we took turns flipping the LDs. Great times.
Same Grandma also had tons of James Bond movies and 1930s-1950s stuff too. She passed in 2000.

PT all in cinemas. The Force Awakens and Rogue One also in cinemas. Also went to see the 1997 20th Anniversary Special Editions of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi in cinemas too.

Just remembered I have a lot of H.P. Lovecraft on my phone. Might be redos or compilations. Even have all of Charles Dickens, John Le Carre, and Alexandre Dumas too. All those epubs. No idea what I have in storage, should check again soon.

Do you use Calibre to store your ebooks?

I use Calibre, Dropbox, and Calibre-go for Android to store my entire ebook library and share it to my mobile devices.

Use my external hard drive and Mega to store ebooks (epubs) they don’t take up much space unlike PDF. To read them on my Android I use Universal Book Reader Pro. Some books are fine at 7 pt but some of the layout gets weird. Have all The Witcher books too and this huge all in one for all 7 Harry Potter books. Never read the latter when I was a teenager/adult as they released. Figured a compilation would be fine but at well over 2000 pages, it’d gonna take awhile.
Also have J.R.R. Tolkien, Philip K. Dick, Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Raymond Chandler, Joseph Conrad, Dashiell Hammett, Stephen King (obviously), Patrick O’Brian (Aubrey/Maturin series), George Orwell, Chuck Palahniuk, Star Wars, and just many others. Even books I’ve been meaning to reread after a couple decades of not.

I’m an atheist and I’ll leave it at that.

Good for you. I’m not. Good for me. Nobody is complaining about the guy being an atheist. Being an atheist is okay. We’re complaining about being an asshole about it. The kind of atheism that condescends and laughs at any other viewpoint and judges not being an atheist as being of less intelligence. And there are plenty like that, just as there are many who believe in god that condemn those that don’t. You can’t concretely prove either way so there’s no reason to be snobby about your beliefs.

So yeah as long as you aren’t an asshole about it nobody will mind.

Oh I’m an asshole, my post history on here kind of confirms that and more on blu-ray.com, but I’d rather argue about movies, music, video games, books, food, and history. Never politics or religion in person or online and I stay out of those threads, even when I troll on 4Chan. Would rather get recommendations for what I’d rather discuss.
In fact, hardly anyone knows I’m an atheist because I don’t even consider it worthwhile to bring up in conversation and I completely avoid it.

Just remembered I have a lot of H.P. Lovecraft on my phone. Might be redos or compilations. Even have all of Charles Dickens, John Le Carre, and Alexandre Dumas too. All those epubs. No idea what I have in storage, should check again soon.

I’m an atheist and I’ll leave it at that. Also can’t stand Rick and Morty and I’ll leave it at that too.

Borrowed from the local library Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and UBIK by Philip K. Dick. Have The Man in the High Castle on my phone. On page 411 of 1041 of Stephen King’s IT. (7pt font size on phone. It’s an epub and I have the legit book first printing in storage.)
Still want to read the rest of the METRO and THE WITCHER books. Might as well start reading the 6 or however many Day Watch books. The Russian vampires where there were two movies. Found the Millenium Trilogy books in storage so I’m glad I don’t have to rebuy them.
