If George Lucas lived in Midieval Times...
Time

Do not wish G.Lucas any harm nor death, EVER! Not because this is bad (i.e.: in "moral" terms), but because he left directives in his testament that will be executed after his death.

Don't like the guy? Want Star Wars the way it used to be?

Then wish that he goes bankrupt :D ...that he goes sooo deep "in the red" that he has to sell his rights to SW :D (and sell his trademark beard on ebay, LOL!)

There is also another thing - and I'm surprised that noone mentioned it yet. Format compatibility. Reels can be "read" even after 50 years without problems here, but can you say the same about computer data? Ever tried to run 20-year-old program on modern system? Or imagine that you have to use those big 5+ inch floppies today - do you still use that obsolete drive in your 'puter?
Just like zombie said, it would require them to periodically "update" the hardware/software format the data is stored. And that costs $.

Typical Star Wars fan-pessimism. Shove it up your ass and twist on it. So very irritating to always having to hear about your bitching and moaning about this shit.
The times I'll be watching this in theatres, I'm just gonna have damn fun watching this. In fact, I believe I only joined the forums more due to DigitalFreakNYC's Indiana Jones project compared to Star Wars. [...] So I'm not a typical OT.com forum member who'll always bash George Lucas. Shit with you guys about that gets old.
[...]Also damn glad Indiana Jones is finally making a comeback which he's so rightfully deserved. Now if I can only find the damn actiony figures dammit!:P

Yeah, you're not like those SW psychopaths, you're very calm and composed man :D

PS: On a serious note, I like the winter themes very much, Icewind Dale game comes to my mind!

blowing up things SW style

Every little boy is a small pyromaniac. When we grow up we become... big pyromaniacs, as we always wanted ;) With that in mind - a little question:

After seeing several documentaries about how OT was made and comparing that to what I saw about PT, I'm having trouble recalling seeing miniature sets & models being blown up for the PT special effects. While the TIEs exploding into plastic chunks against a bluebox are common for OT docs.

I don't think they've used only digital fire and stock video for the PT explosions? Or did they?

Yes because an archaeologist scouring the world and battling Nazis for the lost ark of the covenant and then battling crazy heart-ripping,voodoo doll using (in India) cultists to retrieve three magic stones and then just for good measure finding the holy grail,no less, after searching through tombs in Venice while battling impossibly hot blond Nazi chicks and getting Herr Hitler's autograph in the process is SO completely feasible.

IJ&TOD is my least favorite part in the trilogy and I do find its plot to be waaay too close to a B-movie.

Up to a certain point. If I'm going to watch a superhero movie (Spiderman, Superman or whateverman) I know there will be people who can fly or who can jump over a building or who can do other ridiculous stuff. This doesn't mean that the plot is made of rubber and that its improbability can be stretched ad infinitum.
As I said, I'm not a nitpicker: "oh, Afrikakorps appeared only in 1940s, while we see its sign already in 1936", "oh, these aren't the real Messerschmitts Bf 109 as they should be, damn couldn't they make the prop planes look more like their real-life counterparts?". But I don't like the concept of going back to that warehouse, period. And to say this I didn't need to know the exact plot twists which would lead Indy there, zombie...

Well, some people have fairly low standards, e.g.: they will buy anything with STAR WARS or Indiana Jones logo on it, no matter whether it's a good or bad product. I'm not one of them.

Yeah, they won't forget about candy bars, but they will drop the common sense somewhere in the way.

Saw another promotional photos today. Two of them featured that female agent, I.Spalko. I'm not the kind of guy who counts how many shots Indy fired from his 6-shot revolver (and other usual nitpicking), yet I simply have problem with swallowing the amount of improbabilty in this upcoming movie.

She's dressed in some kind of a uniform (let's not get into details if it's done properly or not - it has Soviet star on the belt buckle, so it's at least supposed to resemble uniform, right?). I thought she will appear like that in S.America, commanding the detachment of troops. Yet I see her in that super secret US Army base, the one with that mysterious warehouse. Well, she's only missing big letters "hello, I'm a Soviet spy folks!" on her back! And she's marching straight into secret warehouse, hidden in the middle of the nowhere and guarded by US troops.

Right...

And another shot: she threatens to kill poor Indy by putting some blade to his throat. Oh gee, what an intriguing action shot! But what is that weapon? A rapier? A some sort of straight sabre (e.g. like in US Navy) ? She marched into US base, in 1957, with a 2-foot long sabre? "Oh, I beg your pardon, I'm just a Soviet sporstwoman-fencer and I got lost here"

WTF?

Who gets paid for such scripts? >:(

Spybot - Search & Destroy is a good program to clean your computer with. Try a startup scan once it's installed.

I'll second Tiptup's advice: get Spybot S&D, not only it can clean existing "intrusions" but also offers immunization to your system. And this method isn't resource-hungry at all (otherwise I wouldn't use it, since I always want as much free memory as I can).

Like STAR WARS Monopoly (PC game) as well?

On a second thought - this could be actually pulled off, provided that the designers & their superiors have some common sense + imagination.

I find it ridiculous for Vader or other key character buying land that is Death Star, Rebel base on Yavin 4 etc. (other key places)

But if we were to get Lando or Jabba buying various factories and facilities (asteroid mining sites, Tibanna gas processing plants - go figure the rest) we could get Monopoly in SW universe that doesn't look outright silly.

But hey, if people had such subtlety and insight, PT would be executed perfectly, OOT would be released properly... etc. etc. ;)

best way to make a shot list?
Time
OK, I've been digging the net for two evenings, I even asked a local guru that teaches young filmmakers when I met him at school last Saturday and I still don't know how to do it... I was wondering if you, guys, can help me?

What is the best (easiest) way to make a shot list of a given video clip?

Of course I can manually type timecode and comment in a text editor, but I doubt there is no software that could aid me.
I tried adding markers with comments in Adobe Premiere Pro 2, but this wasn't the best option: I can't make a search and they're listed only if I make them numbered ones (up to 100 per sequence).
Then I experimented with Adobe Clip Notes, but this method is valid only for its main purpose: sending a clip for a review. While I can make a search in a PDF file containing the video and comments, it's not that useful (especially when I get double results...) and the file size is way too big (is there a way to delete the video content? the file is secured from modifying...).

I'm intending to make a documentary feature someday, so what I want is to make shot lists for several clips in order to know in advance "what I have available for editing". Then I can make searches in those lists to find shots containing seached subjects (I'll use keywords). I need timecodes, my own text and - in ideal world - a screenshot or two of the frame/shot in question.

Is there a proggy that would make my life easier?

Jokes thread : Reloaded
Time
Steven Spielberg was making a high budget documentary feature in 1980s about creation of the world. Special FX ate a lot of the budget, everything was made traditional way, so all those miniature mountains rising and volcanos erupting etc. was one shot show only. To get enough material, three separate camera units were used.

After the magic word "action" the set was alive with tidal waves, ground shaking and volcanos going boom. Spielberg watched this, amazed and smiling, through his trademark glasses. After the action stopped he calls the first cameraman:

-So how did you like it, guys? Amazing stuff, isn't it?
-That would be understatement, Mr. Spielberg! This was a masterpiece! Definitely an Oscar material! But there's one slight problem, sir...
-...what now?
-...well... err... because of all this excitement we forgot to remove the lens cap from the camera and... hello? Sir, are you there?

OK, so Steven is really mad now. He calls the second cameraman:

-OK guys, did you get that scene?
-Yes, Mr. Spielberg...
-...you did remember to remove the lens cap?
-Certainly we did! That's the first thing to do, after all...

OK, everything seems to look better now, thinks Steven

- ...but the problem is that we put the wrong reel on the camera and we only got the first 90 seconds or so... sir?

The really frustrated Spielberg hangs up and calls the third camera unit. This time he is really scared:

- Guys, we had some problems with the other two camera units, how about you, anything wrong?
- Negative, sir! Everything is going smoothly!
- You did remember to remove the lens cap? And to install the reel?
- Sure thing!

Phew! What a relief - thinks Spielberg

- As we said, sir - everything in order! So, when do we start?
