Okay.
Okay.
Blood from a turnip. They aren't going to ruin the lives of their hardest of hardcore fans.
Is it a matter of inaccessibility, or morals?

He's aware of it for sure. The thing is, the fan complaining isn't justified. Far from it. You could definitely call it understandable. Star Wars isn't our life's work that George Lucas took from us and screwed up; it's his. So he has license to do whatever the hell he wants...
He maneuvered himself that way out of the gate, ensuring he would have merchandising rights. I don't think there is any getting in the mind of someone as odd as George Lucas.
EDIT: By the by, Promus, your signature is awesome!
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
Sure, that's true, but where else in your life do you demand that someone stop doing something you don't think they should do? I'll bet that when you do, it's over something far more important than Star Wars.
I'm saying that there is a very small chance that you are wasting your time. You shouldn't simplify so much. I'm not referring to fan edits (which are icing on my nerd cake), but specifically the preservation efforts for the OUT. Harmy's are amazing. Dark_Jedi's are, too. What do you gain if George also releases them? The satisfaction that he relented? I ask again, what's the point of that?

I did MY part...gave a crappy review and rated it as one star.
Let's "stay on target," people! This is our chance to "strike back" in some small way at Lucas!!
This is pretty ridiculous as well. It's not going to matter. Lucas publicly rebukes those that want the OT. He doesn't give a hoot about all the one-star reviews in the world. The group of people that would take the time to "vote with their wallet" is so small compared to the general buying public who thinks having Star Wars in HD is "pretty cool". That's all that matters.
Actually, I didn't have to waste much time at all to vote with my wallet at all. In fact, it took no time. I've spent no time not buying these movies. It's great.
But I really hate this mindset. Forgive me for saying so, or don't, but it's a pretty lousy attitude to have. "You're not going to win, so why bother trying?" Gee, maybe because we believe in something? Maybe because, even if we can't win, we're at least sticking to our principles. Maybe because, even if it's a tiny dent in George's pockets, at least we know that he didn't get our money, that at least there's a few ten thousands of dollars he won't have to finance that much more CG shit on the screen. But, seriously, Star Wars "fans" are some of the most defeatist and frustrating people I've ever met! It's amazing they ever get anything done if they have that kind of attitude in real life too!
I'll wager that wrongfully and intentionally attempting to sway the general public's idea of something is not a good principle. And furthermore, the thing that most of us want is accessible right here on this website. I've been enjoying the OUT for some time now, in versions that indicate they were created with a lot of love and care. The obsession with getting a single man to do what more creative men are doing already (and better) is silly.
It's not my intention to be pessimistic, I just think it's wrong to presume that someone's life will be made better by the effort. Hell, why would George ever release the OUT? The work is being done for him.

Almost certainly, but why would they? There is no reason for Lucasfilm to go after the folks who keep that "fire in the belly" love alive. Now, if Fox had the control that Lucas does, I'd imagine that would be a very different story.

Aren't the fan edits considered piracy?
You do know there are a couple of fanedit forums here, right?
Yes I'm aware, but I'm wondering how safe it would be from the suits?
My dad's wondering the same thing. Well, in the context of the fan preservations, not fan edits.
The question is: Are fan edits/preservations REALLY piracy? My dad thinks so. But maybe he's right, though. Maybe the fan edits/preservations ARE piracy, and we're just blind to that fact. And that sucks so badly, that the botched official releases are the only ones I'm allowed to own. >:(
That's a bummer you're restricted from viewing these preservations. It's not piracy in the strictest sense; the intent isn't to profit and the reach of the edits is fairly narrow in the grand scheme of things. Unless the existence of, say, a Harmy or Adywan product begins to encroach on Lucas' ability to profit from Star Wars (if anything, all the edits are helping Lucas, as they continue to perpetuate the adoration of a product that he alone has the ability to make the entire world aware of once in a technological generation.) I doubt we will ever see any serious backlash toward communities like this.
It's just an opinion BigMonkey. But I respect your valuable contribution to the conversation, just as I hope you would respect mine.

Maybe Harmy will do a "De-04ed Special Edition"?
It's so strange that there is any nostalgia for the '97 versions at all...

Guys, we did great bringing the box set down to two stars on Amazon, but the box set of only the OT is still rather high. Could we focus on bringing that down too? People who hate the prequels and (think) they like the OT might assume the whole box is so low because of the prequels, and thus only buy the OT and still get the crap.

This... borders on ridiculous. This is some very seriously wasted effort.
All righty, good to know. Hat's off to ABC, the covers are the business.
PAL is the issue! I'm in the States, so I think I can only view NTSC.
No sir, I believe DJ did!
Thank you gentlemen!
Put my v3's in proper cases finally. I opted to use this art because it looks very striking and the spines are all black. I'm proud to have them on my shelf!
I've had things printed like this at Kinko's. Other than the odd look here and there, it's not a problem. Although, printing 100 copies my raise an eyebrow or three.
I have a fondness for those releases. More or less, they are “My Star Wars”…
I’ve searched the boards, but I’d really like to get up to date information regarding the possibility of finding them in decent, possibly anamorphic quality. The topics don’t have much activity past 2005-06.
Any info would be awesome!
Does anyone have any advice on what I could do to make working ISO's for ANH and ESB?
It's the photo. I take photos on my iPhone and I chose the HDR version which tends to be too light for my tastes, so I treated it a little bit. The covers are spectacular, Harmy!

ANOTHER EDIT: I meant to post this yesterday...
These cover are great, Harmy!
EDIT: I just saw that someone posted this same thing earlier, and that there may not be an answer to be had. I'm dying to watch these, though, so maybe someone can help!
I'm having an issue burning two of these. I had no issue with the ISO for RotJ, works on everything I have to play it on (LG Blu-Ray Player, PS3.) However, for both ANH and ESB I had to create the ISO's myself. Neither of those work on my PS3 and I have no idea what I've done wrong. I'm on a Mac and I have Toast and Disk Utility.
Could someone point me on the right direction? Thanks all!
Wow. This is brilliant. I mean I've seen them here before but not actual photos. Makes me wanna make them myself. Anyone know the best way?
I printed these with a Canon inkjet printer on Kodak semi-gloss photo paper. Great result!
Most "normal folk" won't notice these inconsistencies. And it's easier for Lucas to make broad, seemingly needless changes rather than artfully tailor each film to be perfect. Priorities... Lucas' are a little whacky in that they are not skewed toward hardcore fandom.
