never had the opportunity to watch this masterpiece in 35mm but yep, from first VHS I had, I always remembered first shot of opening titles like that - more toward orange than maroon.

if you want to convert from DVD to BD without OCR to text, you should check out bdsup2sub.
@willarob just a guess, but there must have been some cutting/re-timing of subtitles involved, due to dual crawl. is it possible that pal>ntsc conversion sneaked itself somewhere in the process? seems like it from the amount of time subs are coming late towards the end.
Clicked through the BD image in PDVD15, the English subtitles progressively go out of sync, maybe a whole 5 seconds by the end of the movie.

is grindhouse version of italian cut possible at some point?
As thxita said, the Italian cut is the same as the US theatrical (I know, I watched them side by side). Now what exactly do you want? Just a raw scan of the Italian version with Italian voices and titles and computer screens? Poita has already released this.
Something in English? I have done a version where I synced an English track to the raw scan and replaced the titles. That’s in the link above.
I understood poita released a low res version. What I had in mind is something along the lines of Harmy’s grindhouse Jedi.
BD compliant, italian audio. While not a must, synced to L’uomo che fuggi del futuro DVD would be a plus 😄

Now I’m confused.
You can clearly see more of the storm trooper on the left in the bluray. So the Technicolor is cropped. And a little bit from the top too. But bluray is cropped slightly from the right side.
I looked into why it is so cropped here and found that it was erroneously cropped by Photoshop’s Edit -> Align Layers -> Auto, used to register the images.
every time I see a bluray compared here I hear mike verta’s “fuck, no” hahaha
less hardcoded subs, the better, imho.
Great, and somehow this isn’t deemed important enough to be anounced before people start downloading. Now I have a mixed bag of sets… what is the best aproach now to solve this.
