Lack of humanity in prequels?

Sorry, but this does not make for compelling story telling. I believed the Han and Leia romance. Their characters were such at odds with each other that you could feel the underlying sexual tension.

Anakin and Padame....well, he was creepy. He stared at her like a stalker. He whined at her about Obi-wan. And this is supposed to make me believe that she was attracted to him? Why? If you were Padame, would you find Anakin attractive? I seriuosly doubt it. Sorry but the whole 'romance' was ridiculous and pathetic.

In the hands of a skilled screen writer, this could have been fixed. It could have been believable. Hell, remove or re-edit the fireside scene and take out that horrible 'died a little bit each day' line and the romance is acceptable. Not believable, but acceptable. Up until that fire side scene, there were a couple of decent scenes between the characters.

The prequels feel cold because of poor character development, bad storytelling, bad direction (which resulted in bad acting), and too much attention focused on merchandising.

Asha is totally right. This is the problem with the prequels in a nut shell. Try as I may, I just can't care about the fate of these characters.

Again, totally true.

I'm sorry but that whole 'The Empire are human supremacists' is EU bunk. Nothing like that has ever been stated in the films.

Sexual orientation aside, even if I were straight I would still say the scene sucked. She could have been sitting there naked and the scene would have still sucked. It was bad acting and bad dialogue. There's no two ways about it.

The gospel according to Jimbo. So let it be written. So let it be done.

Well, inspite of the fact that TPM and AOTC didn't live up to my expectations, I'm still holding out (albeit a small amount) some hope that ROTS might deliver. Lucas just might pull this one off. I doubt it, but he could.

Part of me wants to believe that he had an overall plan with the prequels, but in relaity I know that he made it up as he went along. I guess we'll know for sure come May 2005.

The camera only cuts away when Anakin enters the room where the younglings are training. They say hi to him--and the doors shut.

Ok, that's certainly pushing the envelope a bit. Doesn't sound like a kiddy movie to me. But then again, Anakin has already slaughtered female Tuskin Raiders and their children so this doesn't surprise me. However, this just might be a little much for the average child to see. The really big question is will Lucas stick to his guns on this or will it get edited out.

The trailer sounds cool, but let's remember that is the point of trailers. They, by their nature, have to look cool! Ya gotta get the butts in the seats, right? Just because the trailer looks cool doesn't mean that the film still can't suck out loud. The trailers for TPM and AOTC all looked cool and they certainly made me want to see the movies. In the end the films just didn't deliver the goods. The same thing could happen to ROTS.
