Another reason for allowing the imperfections to be posted here, is that it helps continue to make it clear that the world still needs a real preservation of the original film.
Those changes are quite noticeable. Great work as always.
Dr.Olds, try to understand that the members of this forum are working very hard to do restoration and preservation work on Star Wars. The purpose of this site isn't to crack and distribute films that are available. Rather than coming here expecting people to give you things and then complaining when it's not easy, try understanding that most of the folks here are working on restoration efforts, not distribution efforts. So be nice, and be patient.
I don't even have Harmy's disk yet, and I'm one of the oldest and most active members of the forum.
Since the burn marks aren't a by-product of the film making process, but accidentally inserted through some sort of mishandling after the film was complete, I think a proper restoration of the film would remove them. So I agree with Harmy's decision to not insert them.
ROTP in the works, but still a ways off. I'd look for Harmy's version 1.
Harmy, are you still planning an AVCHD 2.1 version?
The most effective way of converting to widescreen is to change the aspect ratio.
Impressive
I have scanned an also-purple copy - haven't finished the restoration - but it is missing the two scenes that Silverwook mentioned. If it has those two scenes, I would be very interested in scanning it.
This is definitely the most bizarre project in the history of OT.com. I think the only person here who is qualified to help is Frink.
If you get KenKraly to make the opening speech before the showing, I'm there!
It was a replay, but the first time I had heard the segment of "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" that included Carrie Fisher. Funniest anecdote... she said that once on set Alec Guinness paid Mark Hamill a 20-pound note just to go away. Apparently Mark was driving Alec crazy asking a lot of questions about his career.

It ought to come in a life size Jar Jar head with voice chip. You must pull his tongue to release the discs within...
This should be added to the first post.

And lastly, no, the Biggs scene was conclusively never present in any officially released cut prior to 1997.
Except to those of us rebels who swear we remember it.
<> Never mind, just saw the pics added to the first post.
yeeeGGAAAHHH!!! oh, whew, for a minute there I thought I had logged on to TFN by accident.
And doesn't C3PO say a very similar line in SW outside the cantina?
Nothing new. I still have to send the raw material to Adywan for color correction. I'll post here as things proceed.
The audio on rsortor's print is NOT the 16mm mix. What is the easiest way for me to determine whether it is a foldown of the 35mm or the 70mm?
I do consider the non-anamorphic format to be a bug. Why? Because industry standard at the time was to release widescreen movies anamorphically. It shouldn't have been necessary to state that it was anamorphic; a reasonable presumption is that it would be. It's also the first thing that fan edits correct when using GOUT as a base - something LFL should have done from the start. So it is obviously for all practical purposes a bug that should have, and could at zero cost have been, fixed.
If a DVD of Wizard of Oz came out and it turned out to be black and white, would it not be a mistake because the label didn't say "in color"? No, certain things are just presumed. If it skips, would it not be a mistake because the disk didn't say "won't skip"?
Perhaps if the disc included the label - "disclaimer: outdated crappy non-anamorphic f-ed up transfer", then there wouldn't be any bugs!
It isn't a bug, it's a feature. It reflects my original vision for the DVD.
They wouldn't go after Harmy - they'd go after ot.com.

The only person who truly knows was the theatre's famed projectionist and he passed away last November.
Under suspicious circumstances, no doubt. :)
I think we should start a betting pool on what offer Harmy accepts. Will it be a job at a major studio? Will it be the Smithsonian or the Library of Congress? Will it be venture capital startup funding?
