When/Why did you become an OT purist?

The highest resolution that the assessors could still discern in the sharpest part of the screen(not neccassirily it's center) in the most performing movie theater was about 875 Lines/PH

I could see that, for the "most performing movie theater".  I'm not interested in the quality of the "most performing movie theater".  That's irrelevant for high quality film restoration.  A proper restoration would try to achieve the quality of the highest quality projection, such as in a high end 70mm theater with a brand new print.  Do your studies indicate the resolution of high quality 70mm projections of brand new prints?

I don't think of myself as just an OT purist.  I support any effort to preserve important books and films, and have been involved in two other groups doing essentially what I am doing here.

With regards to SW, as soon as the SE came out, I saw the handwriting on the wall and bought the faces VHS set, then a crappy bootleg DVD set from somewhere in Asia.  I discovered Jay before this group existed.  Although I didn't actually become a member of this group until several years later, when Boba Feta made his super8 transfer, and I realized I had the equipment to do better and be a part of the effort.

i loved cloud city and coruscant at the end of the special edition of star wars episode 6-the return of the jedi, i don't see/get why all of these fans and purists hate it......

Wow, you really don't get it.  It's not about "what I like".  In fact, I DO like some SE things.  But that is irrelevant.  What is wrong is changing and suppressing history.

Do you think Grand Moff Tarkin survived the Death Star Explosion?

Do you think that dude who got choked by Vader on the Tantive IV survived?  I do.  You don't?  PROVE IT.

It's just so obvious that that guy (antilles) had died. Either U have never watched the star wars films/movies, U R just a silly little kid, or u R a troll trying to get other users annoyed!!!!!

He's just stunned.  Pining for the fiords.

No - the logic (as per FS's analogous thread) goes as follows:

Is there any actual evidence that Tarkin died?  Does any source actually say that he died?  If you can't produce some actual quote that says specifically that he died, then it is reasonable to imagine that he survived.

The good news about this, is that the same logic can be used for each of the remaining thousands of inhabitants of the Death Star, which in turn means that maybe the Rebels didn't kill anyone at all.  In fact, the only person we know anything at all about who was on the Death Star was Vader, and we saw him survive.  So the Rebels really are good, all they destroyed was the Death Star itself... all the people survived because there is no specific mention anywhere of any particular person dying.  Empire=bad, Rebels=good.  QED

The Empire Strikes Back is a "junk movie"

Most people think the argument revolves around "what you like versus what I like".  Bring up film history and the response is usually short - that's for old history professors to care about.  It takes a while to graduate from "I don't care if they burn that book, I didn't want to read it anyways" to "whoa, that's dangerous and must not happen".
