Star Wars GOUT in HD using super resolution algorithm (* unfinished project *)

Man, all I want is for Han's lips to move at the same time he's talking...

Having done audio sync on a number of film captures (not just SW), I always wrestle with this.  Many scenes are overdubbed after the fact ... that is commonly done, and not just in movies but in other productions. [I did some color commentary on a sporting event once, and they decided they didn't like the sound of our mics and so we had to go into the studio afterwards and overdub ourselves]

Point being, it is harder to sync audio and video captures if the voices have been overdubbed.  They just never seem to line up quite right.  And because of that, I often wonder if I should be trying to align the voice with the video, or if I should be trying to align the audio with where it fell in the original film (rightly or wrongly).

Do you think Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray?

Why do you care so much about the '97 SE?

Because it is the only proper (self-contained) special edition of the trilogy at the moment. Because it is not infested with PT parasites.

 Just serious answers, please.

It is very serious. You just don't get the point.

No, you don't get this: SW is not only what you want think it is. There are and there will always be different editions, and they're not as bad as you desperately want them to be. Just get over it

Actually you don't get it... it has nothing to do with whether the changes are "bad" or "good".  And it's not about what any of us want.  It's about preserving art and cultural history.  That means all versions of the movies, especially the originals that won all those Academy awards.

Your first reaction to Hayden is ROTJ

So let's say that Warner Bros., this year, produced a really lame prequel to Casablanca - one that starred Justin Bieber as the young Rick Blaine, and Natalie Portman as the young Ilsa Lund.  They have a lot of memorable dialog about how Rick doesn't like all the sand in Morocco, and there's some kewl-fx war scenes. The movie totally sucks.

It also has a continuity error with the original, wherein Victor Laszlo isn't Czech, he's a young Nigerian played by Jim Iyke.  Should it follow that the studio should go back and change the original 1942 Casablanca by CGI-ing an older Nigerian's face over Paul Henried's to align with the new film, in order to correct the continuity error?

yesvideo and similar companies vs diy scanning: cost and newbie-friendliness

Moviestuff (www.moviestuff.tv) makes a variety of excellent telecine equipment at reasonable prices.  I did the puggo editions with their cheapest units (workprinterXP and workprinter16).  I found them easy to use, and their customer support to be superb.  Some of their more recent products look really enticing (albeit a bit more pricy).  Even easier to use, too.

In doing these kinds of transfers, the initial capture from film is the most important step.  The advantage to doing it yourself is that you can run as many passes as you want with different settings, until you like what you get.  Whereas a company is going to probably run one pass and move on to the next customer.  They aren't doing it because they're interested, and can't afford to waste time running multiple dubs.

I haven't, but then I'm just a computer programmer and not very knowledgeable about such things.  I'm sure as soon as it gets out, people will find all sorts of things -- it was the case for the other projects.

Sorry it has been taking so long, it's turned into another busy semester.  But I am sneaking in snippets of time here and there and want very desparately to get it finished.

The last new thing I tried was some kind of cheese -- I don't recall which kind, sorry -- shaped in the form of small balls that came in a plastic container filled with water.

Hmm, sounds like fresh mozzarella.  Buffalo mozzarella if you're lucky, but probably just cow.  First time I tried, I didn't get the point.  After a while, you start craving it.  An Italian staple.

Characters... Jabba is a great gangster, the Emperor is an awesome evil villain.  Great characters make up for all the plot holes.  It also has one major advantage over ESB, in that it is less claustrophobic.  ESB, although it is "better", takes place primarily in cramped, small places.  Whereas ROTJ manages to ressurrect the more expansive feel of the universe we experienced in SW.

That a deity may have created, worked within, or assisted evolution in a sort of "intelligent design" way is possible - any scientist would have to concede that anything is possible.  It is also possible that a giant bowl of pasta noodled the universe and us into existance.  Just because something is possible doesn't mean that it should be part of a science class.  The current state of science is that evolution is a theory that has stood the test of scientific peer review for over a hundred years, whereas creationism (and/or intelligent design) is still just a hypothesis.

Maybe someday someone will come up with sufficient observable, repeatable evidence for ID to construct a convincing proof.  Science is always changing. Until then, all the faith, scripture, and epiphanies in the world won't make it compatible with science.  It may be true, but science requires evidence, observation, repeatability, and a well-constructed proof subject to peer review.
