Idea & Info: Cinerama 70mm '2001' preservation. Is it possible?
Time

I saw it in 70mm twice, once in 1968 when I was 8 years old, and then in 2001 at the Castro theater in San Francisco when an apparently newly-minted print began a multi-year tour around the country.  It was pristine at that time, but after a couple of years I heard it started getting really grungy.  Glad to hear that there is a new, clean print starting to make the rounds?

We lost Count Dooku
Time

When I was a kid, saturday night B horror flicks was virtually a weekly dose of Christopher Lee portraying some sort of vampire.  He was always perfect in that role.  No matter how bad the film was, he was always great.  More recently, I liked him in "Hugo".  He also did some wierd heavy metal stuff which, although not my cup of tea, I thought was quite courageous of him.

"Poita No Return" - the EIAJ open-reel dub of SW Ep.IV
Time

So are there any prevailing theories as to what exactly this is?  By 1977, EIAJ was pretty much dead.  But the ability to capture Star Wars was not exactly available.  So what sort of person would have access/ability to dub SW, and choose to do so on EIAJ?  Also, by then, color EIAJ was available.  The whole thing is just wierd.  And it's not a bad dub - compared to the hundreds of EIAJ tapes I've transfered, this one is pretty good.  It looks first generation.

Return of the Pug (ROTP) - webpage and screenshots (Released)
Time

Ok, I added the curved border.  It looks good with the anamorphic flag set.  However, I am having trouble getting either TMPGenc or MainConcept to get the framerate right.  It seems to be setting the pulldown flag, but the playback time doesn't change.  I'll experiment with my older computer and the older version of TMPGEnc, to see if the problem is with the newer version, or with the files that harmy got out of aftereffects.

How you pictured Anakin pre-PT
Time

I pictured him a lot friendlier looking.

But really, I agree that it was part of the larger failure of the PT trying to show the stuff that was mentioned in the OT.  As weak as it was, ROTJ did a much better job of showing someone trying to lure someone to the dark side - that surely was enough.  We didn't need to see the process again, drawn out over three films. And worse yet, "how will they keep control without the bureaucracy?" was more than sufficient in the OT for us to build a mental image... I couldn't believe it when the PT actually showed us the bureaucracy.

Star Wars on Super8 (Released)

This is the new version, that should become a standard, especially replacing Puggo's 16mm for film fans of the original.

Being a big fan of your work, the last thing I want to do is sound defensive.  And I have never, ever claimed the PG was anything but a grungy curiosity with mild research value.  But comparing our respective posted screenshots, I'm a bit confused by your above comment:

Drew Struzan? No thanks.
Time

Back 20+ years ago, my uncle used to be an artist at Disney, in their department that made the movie posters.  The way they ran it back then, three of their artists were assigned to make a poster for a movie.  They were each pretty much given free rein.  Then the execs would pick the one they liked best out of the three.  I have no idea if they still work the same way today.

Visiting the office was kinda spooky.  The walls were covered with posters that weren't selected, of famous movies.  It was wierd seeing a unrecognizable posters for movies that you were familiar with.  Spooky, and kind of disappointing because some of them were really good.  I especially remember my uncle's poster design for "One of our Dinosaurs is Missing" - it was WAY better than the one that was selected.
