what I’m doing is analyzing the concept of white privilege and making the claim that it is a racist concept.

Would you have made the same claim if it were, oh, say, the year 1800 ?

Of course not. Our country is constantly evolving and changing. Abolishment of slavery, civil rights movement, etc.

That’s inconsistent with the earlier statement: “the idea of white privilege is absolutely reprehensible and dangerous to society and how it is a very racist concept”. It sounds like it really isn’t absolute, and instead depends on the context.

I’m surprised nobody has said that they’re “color blind” yet.

Yeah another ridiculous thing. Now it is racist to for one to say they are “color blind”. That used to be a positive thing to be, now it is racist.

It’s not racist, per se, but it’s not helpful.

why isn’t being “color blind” helpful? Isn’t it the direct opposite of being racist?

It’s not that BEING color blind isn’t helpful. Of course it is. It’s that CLAIMING to be color blind isn’t helpful. It’s like being in a debate and saying “I’m right” - it just doesn’t help. It also conveys that one isn’t willing to discuss the possibility that one might have (inadvertently) done something racist.

Whatever pain women and minorities are experiencing is not my fault. I am not the one doing it. I am not and have never been anyone’s boss, so I have never had the opportunity to discriminate against anyone, and if I ever get the opportunity I will try as best as I can to treat everyone fairly. I’ve never raped or molested any women and never would. I always try as best as I can to treat women and minorities with respect. I don’t use racial slurs. I am more than willing to vote for women and minorities at election time. If any pain is coming from me, I don’t do it consciously and it is very, very, minor. Blame it on the men and white people who are really causing the pain. Just became I am a white male, does not mean that I am the problem.

I don’t think that’s the claim. The claim is that you (and I) have probably been the beneficiary of white privilege. Which then opens the door to the possibility that maybe we should be working to help correct it, even if we aren’t the cause.

What is your preferred browser? For Mobile; for Desktop? Why?

Theoretically, texting is faster with a flip phone. That is, if you get skilled at feeling where the buttons are without looking. I had a friend who was blazingly fast at texting with one hand, blind (even with the phone in his pocket), and he could do it while holding a second conversation. That’s not possible with a smartphone.

Sadly, this person committed suicide a few years ago. I don’t think that the two are related, but I mention it as a disclaimer, just in case…

One could argue that legalizing gay marriage and marijuana are conservative standpoints as that means less government limitations on your personal life.

I’ve wondered about that myself. Unfortunately, for some (possibly arbitrary) reason, the Republican party seems to be intertwined with Christianity. I say arbitrary because I have many conservative friends for whom their one gripe with the Republican party is its immersion in religion.

I’ve often wondered what the U.S. would look like if it happened to be the liberals that were embroiled in Christianity.

UFO's & other anomalies ... do you believe?
Time

UFOs are definitely REAL. That’s because nobody can deny that there have been flying objects that haven’t been identified. When I was in college, my sister and I saw one - we immediately looked at each other and said “did you see that?”. We still like to discuss what we each think we saw.

More to the point is whether those UFOs are of extra-terrestial intelligence in origin. To that, I have to say that sadly I don’t think any of them are. I really REALLY wish they were, because that would be really cool. In fact if any ONE of those “visitations” turned out to be real, it would be the coolest thing that ever happened on earth. I just think that the current science makes it seem highly unlikely. It is also telling that most of the observations are so different from each other. If we were being visited, I think there would be more consistency in the stories.

I also don’t think we will ever be able to participate in any sort of reasonable speculation on this topic, or make contact with other intelligences, until we get some sort of handle on the meaning of (and possible interrelationships between) time, space, gravity, and consciousness. Right now we don’t have a clue what any of those things are, so how can be possibly presume to have any idea what is what in the universe(s)? They are so basic, and we are so clueless. We’re like sea slugs, totally clueless of the ocean around them and beyond.

I’m guessing some of you don’t remember this.

False equivalency.

Not so. A President is within his legal power to do it no matter which President it is.

This has nothing to do with my point, and everything to do with why it’s pointless to engage you on any topic.

Well then, explain, why do you believe it is a false equivalent?

Because Comey is not under investigation for using public funds for private use.

Because Sessions was not investigating Clinton’s possible collusion with another nation to > undermine the election.

Fair enough but I didn’t say anything about it being equivalent.

But when I said “false equivalency” you said “not so”…argh, whatever.

I’m amazed that people continue to respond to Jetrell’s posts. Every time someone does, a new rabbit hole opens up, and it’s frustration all the way down.

To be clear, I don’t think that Jetrell is a bad guy - in fact he seems like a totally nice person. Just staggeringly illogical.
