Then George releases a new 6 disk set that does have changes to the OT. Are there any that you would like?

I am only interested in the OT, anamorphic and properly restored with the best original theatrical sound.  I don't want garbage mattes removed or improved backgrounds etc... those are changes to the content of the 1977 film.  As far as changes or alternative versions of the OT, there is only one change to the content of what we see in the GOUT that I would want, and that is listed in my signature.  (Every version I saw, in three different theaters in 1977, included that line, and it always drew laughs.  I still don't understand why it was removed.)

Puggo GRANDE - 16mm restoration (Released)
Time

News?  Yeah, it's finals week!

Seriously, about 2 months ago, I finished the cleanups I wanted to do on reel 1. Then about 1 month ago, I finished the cleanups on reel 2.  Then I had to set it aside until the end of the semester.  As soon as I get my grades submitted, I'll start in on reel 3.

Keep in mind that by "clean up", I don't mean to imply that it is going to be - by any stretch of the imagination - "clean".  But there were certain things in there that even I couldn't stand.  My goal has been to upgrade this thing from "unwatchable" to "barely watchable" :)

Oh, and I received the 16mm PSA, but I still haven't transfered it yet.  That too will happen after I get my grades submitted.  I expect it to make an extremely cool extra.

And of course, after I finish with the Grande edition, I will begin transfering the remaining movie viewer cartridges (the first cartridge transfer appeared in my documentary "Rescuing Star Wars").  Any ideas for a name for that project?  I'm leaning towards something like "Puggo Mini", since it will be sort of the opposite of the "Puggo Grande".  But I'm open to suggestions.

I understand this, when it will be released, will be in NTSC. So how should I convert it into PAL without losing quality? What program should I use?

If someone would like to take my raw captures and produce a PAL version of the film - it would be a lot of effort but would turn out a lot nicer than converting my final NTSC DVD.  I'd be happy to make the raw frame captures available to anyone willing and able to do this.

Can you tell by looking at it if it's as red as it appeared in the pictures they included with the auction? I know they said those pics were redder than the film actually is, but would you know that without loading it onto a projector and such?

Just took a cursory look at the film.  It's Eastman Kodak stock.  Definitely red-shifted. However, there also looks like plenty of other color remaining.  I expect it to restore quite nicely.

Quick progress report... I've finished my first pass of patches on reel 1. That involved using different types of smoothing on different scenes.  It was very tedious and I will need to do the same for the other two reels.  I also have a second pass of some miscellaneous border corrections - should be a lot quicker than the first set of corrections, though.

So progress is being made. Once those are all done, it'll be ready to encode.
