OOT Letter Writing Campaign for Blu Ray release
Time

My definition here is simple... whatever was shown in theaters at the time of release (e.g., 1977) with the various audio options available at the time.

That means he needs to do a little bit more than, for example, just slapping the laserdisk on there. That's not what was shown in theaters, and would fail to include all of the essential audio alternatives.... 70mm, 35mm, mono, etc.  It means ensuring that an original print (or negative) is restored without enhanced or corrected effects, even minor ones -- same for audio.

We are an original trilogy forum, so I think our request should be limited to what we consider to be the original theatrical form of the original trilogy. Whatever other "enhanced" crap he wants to include is fine with me, just so long as the theatrical form is intact and unaltered, with a reasonable selection of audio versions from the same timeframe.  Any other requests just complicates things.

But giving us a higher price tag due to the fact that they're selling it all in one. And more people will give in for the OT, even if they have to buy the PT with it. Unfortunately.

Yes, I would buy a mega-mega-set if it included the OT fully restored in HD. Are you hearing that George?  I WILL BUY your mega-set if it includes what I want.  That's money for you.  Lots of money for you.  Note that if it doesn't include what I want, I won't buy it. That would be no money for you.  Are you listening? My money to you, or not my money to you. Your call.

1984 A New Hope Project (* unfinished project *)
Time

The only other efforts I can remember requesting donations were the X0 and -1's 35mm project.  Both clearly could justify the expense - I even donated to the X0. But neither has produced anything. Meanwhile, to my knowledge Adywan has never asked for donations. It cost a few hundred bucks (between me and Jaxxon) to make the Puggo Edition and Grande (spent on hardware, software, and some bulky postage for the 16mm reels).  I never asked for a dime - and then sent out dozens of DVD copies for free. I've had at least 25 offers from people wanting to send me money, and I have always refused. My payment came in the form of trades - people who in turn sent me copies of their hard work. So I agree with some of the other posters who have expressed their opinion that your cost/donation model is not entirely in the spirit of the forum as it has been operating so far. That said, your project is interesting.

"The People Vs. George Lucas" documentary...

But to play devil's advocate, Puggo (or anyone else), what do you say to those who would say "But you've got the GOUT."?

My answer is twofold... first, it ISN'T the movie we saw in the theaters because the image (and sound) quality of the original film was itself part of what made SW a milestone - it was not the grungy old school look that the GOUT has decieved many into believing it was (and intentionally, I might add). And second, given that virtually every other major motion picture of SW's importance has been afforded proper restoration, it is wrong that SW has not.

With only the GOUT to go on, Lucas has succeeded in getting many people to draw incorrect conclusions about the state of filmmaking art in 1977. That is true (and successful) revisionism.

Personally, I think all the discussions about fan-editing and the prequels dilutes the most important issue here, which is the loss of movie history. Adywan's edits are interesting, the prequels suck, bla bla bla, but I don't think any of that is worthy of the kind of passion that should be reserved for the refusal of GL to release the original films. That is flat out destruction of a major cultural milestone, and that is what I was hoping PvsG would have focused on.  I really don't care about Jar Jar - if GL wants to make a feature film about Jar Jar, I really wouldn't care.  I'd rather focus on what is really at stake here, which is the loss of SW, the original movie that changed America. It is gone and it may never return.

Correct viewing order of ALL official Star Wars related movies / series ?
Time

I WANT to watch it in chronological order, is that really that hard to understand ?

You can watch them however you want... backwards or upside down for all I care.  But that wasn't your question... you asked what was the "correct" viewing order, and to that my best answer is to watch them in the order that they were made. Otherwise the flashbacks aren't flashbacks, and therefore major plot twists and surprises in the OT are spoiled. But if you prefer it that way, I have no problem with that.

Well I DO understand what are you guys trying to tell me, I just don't agree :-) I definitely want to watch the stuff in chronological order.

So then, would you prefer that movies with flashbacks be re-arranged into chronological order?  Would that improve, say, "The Sixth Sense" ?  Because that essentially is what a "prequel" is... a flashback on a larger scale.

"Star Wars" or "A New Hope" or "Episode IV" or "The Original One" or "Star Wars 1977" and why?
Time

The movie that won all those Academy Awards, including being nominated for Best Picture, was called "Star Wars".  How many times in history has a movie garnered a slew of Academy Awards, and then years later it's name changed? That's just plain wierd.

"The Godfather" didn't change names just because some half-baked saga sprouted up afterwards.

Heres my take on the 2004 Special Editions i bought the Original Star Wars Trilogy on DVD the day they came out for the first time ever on DVD thinking they were the original theatrical versions however that was not the case Lucas changed the whole trilogy this is not the trilogy i grew up with adding Hayden Christensen in Return Of The Jedi was an insult to Sebastian Shaw but i do own the Original Versions on DVD the 2004 special edtions are great transfers and they look like new films but i wont watch them have the theatrical versions on dvd there for i like them better now we can watch Star Wars they way they were meant to be seen.

That may be the longest sentence on the entire forum.  Oh, and I agree with you.
